Chapter 2

Shishido Ryou was grinning from ear to ear as he laid(lay) back down on his bed and stared at the ceiling. His mind went back to the earlier phone conversation with Oishi. A smile tugged at the corner of his lips, as he imagined the possibility of a romantic relationship with Oishi. However, he knew it would take time to develop especially when Oishi still wasn't over his previous relationship. Humming a cheerful tune, he proceeded to switch off the lights and prepare for bed.

He slept peacefully and soundly, until the loud alarm jerked him awake. Muttering a curse under his breath, he searched for the culprit who'd disturbed his rest. Locating the alarm clock, which sat on his study table, he grumbled as he unceremoniously threw the covers off and marched towards the table before hitting the snooze button on the alarm clock.

Stumbling into the bathroom, he hurried through his morning ritual before picking up his bag and joining his parents for breakfast. The sight of the calender hanging on the wall caused him to slap his head in annoyance, he'd forgotten to study for his test today.

His little action must have caught his parents attention as his father frowned at him, "Ryou, is there anything wrong?"

Shishido gulped, "No... nothing's wrong, just remember something I should have done long time ago but have yet to do."

His father eyed him suspiciously, but decided not to comment on his weird behaviour. Shishido mentally let out a mental sigh of relief, if his father ever found out about him neglecting to study just because he was too happy after a conversation with Oishi, his father would lecture him.

Hoping to escape his father's surveillance, Shishido finished his breakfast swiftly. As soon as he placed the dishes in the sink, he snatched his school bag from the couch and bid his parents farewell. After which, he set off for school without a backward glance. Upon reaching school, he made his way towards the class with a sense of looming doom. He had no doubt that he'd be failing the class, and he had a very clear idea on his father's reaction to his failing grade.

He had only just sat down in his seat when heard footsteps heading towards him, looking up, he found himself facing their resident tensai, Oshitari Yuushi.

Putting on a look of annoyance, he muttered. "What do you want?"

Oshitari merely smirked and sat on the edge of his table, "Why so grumpy? Didn't study?"

Shishido's eyebrow twitched slightly, before grinding out. "What's it to you? I'm not in a mood to fight with you."

Oshitari merely shrugged and handed him a stack of papers. Shishido took the stack of papers warily, "What's this?"

"Notes for the upcoming test." Oshitari answered nonchalantly.

Shishido eyed their resident genius weirdly, he'd never been on good terms with Oshitari. Why did the latter decide to help him out? As if sensing his strange expression, Oshitari said.

"Do not misunderstand, they're not from me. I'm merely passing the message, look carefully at the cover before assuming things. It says there clearly, the name 'Fuji Syuusuke'. "

Upon closer inspection, Shishido have to admit it did belong to Fuji. Yet, that still didn't explain why someone from Seigaku wanted to help him out.

However, before he could get clarification on the matter, Oshitari answered his unasked question. "Fuji told me yesterday, you will neglect the upcoming test because you'd be too busy talking with Oishi. Thus, he wanted me to hand this over to you."

"Aa..." Shishido replied, not knowing what to say in return.

"Give it back by the end of the day, Fuji needs it tomorrow." Oshitari said as he turned to leave the classroom without glancing back at Shishido.

The rest of the day passed by uneventfully, Shishido managed to pull through the test with a borderline passing grade, thanks to Fuji's notes on the topic. 'Well, it's good enough... considering the fact I studied a mere hour before the test started.' he thought.

Heading to the tennis courts, he tried to catch Oshitari alone. Yet, luck was not with him as Oshitari was surrounded by their fellow team mates. With a sigh, he unwillingly trudged over. Upon reaching the group, he waved the book in front of Oshitari to attain the latter's attention.

Oshitari smirked, "Aa... so you've finished using it then..."

Shishido said nothing but handed the book over to Oshitari and left the site.

"What's wrong with Shishido-sempai?" Ohtori asked.

Oshitari shrugged to indicate 'No idea', while Gakuto muttered. "Well, who cares..."

With a sigh, Ohtori headed back to practice without another word.

Meanwhile, Shishido was staring at his cellphone, wondering if he should call Oishi. He was so deep in thought and he nearly dropped the phone in shock when it rang. Looking at the number shown on the phone, he was rather surprised to find Oishi calling him. After all, it's always him who called the latter up.

"Hi Oishi." he greeted as he picked up the call.

"Hi, am I interrupting anything?" Oishi's hesitant voice could be heard from the other end.

"No... it's alright." Shishido assured.

"Aa... good." Oishi responded.

"So ..." Shishido prompted.

"Oh yes, I'm wondering if you would like to join me for dinner tonight..." Oishi asked.

"Dinner?" Shishido echoed.

"Yes, dinner at my place..."

"Sure, what time?" Shishido replied.

"How about 7pm?" Oishi suggested.

"Sure, I'll see you tonight then." Shishido responded.

Shishido smiled as he hung up, whistling a happy tune. He headed back home to prepare himself for the upcoming dinner.
