Chapter 37
"You're late, Aura," a woman with shoulder-length black hair greeted once the dual-haired girl entered the training room.
"Sorry, I was plotting," Shinzoo admitted.
"Great, now who are you after?" a girl with waist-length black hair asked, coming up beside the woman.
"My teammates and the Seigaku regulars," Shinzoo winked.
"Cool, can I join in?" the black-haired girl begged.
"Nah, this one I'm going to have fun with all on my own," Shinzoo smiled.
"Can we get down to practice now?" a woman with blonde hair asked from the front of the room.
"Of course, Sensei, sorry for my tardiness," Shinzoo bowed respectfully.
With that, the martial arts class continued.
"You're getting really good, Aura," Sensei complimented after class. "Soon I'll have you instructing a class of your own, as long as you can learn to show up on time."
"What?" Shinzoo gasped as she took a step back in shock. "M-m-me…t-t-teaching a c-c-class? Are you crazy? I couldn't do something crazy like that!"
"Of course you could, you're one of the best students here," Sensei smiled politely.
"But…I'm not ready to teach anyone. I'm still working on the basics! My control absolutely sucks!"
"You're control is fine."
"No, it's not."
"Yes, it is."
"No, it's not."
"Are we seriously going to sit here and argue about this?"
"No, of course not, Sensei."
"Good, because you know I'm right."
"You are not. I have sloppy control."
"No, you don't."
"Yes, I do."
"Aura, are you arguing with Sensei?" the girl with black hair from before, Shinzoo's younger sister, asked as she came up to them.
"He wants me to teach a class when my control stinks," Shinzoo explained.
"Well, you've got a point there," Shinzoo's sister nodded her head in agreement.
"See, I told you," Shinzoo bragged as she stuck her tongue out at the man.
"Fine, then I'll just start you off as my assistant instructor," Sensei smiled confidently. "Don't worry, you'll do fine. Just be here directly at noon tomorrow."
"What? But we have this whole plan tomorrow, I'm busy," Shinzoo argued.
"What do you mean?"
"One of my teammates has some family thing going on tomorrow, and my friends and I were going to go grab the Seigaku regulars and spy on her to figure out what's going on," Shinzoo admits. "So, you see, I'm busy tomorrow. I'm sorry, but I won't be able to make it."
"Is this more important than your martial arts?" Sensei asked.
"Yes, because I watch out for my friends, and if her family has her doing anything weird I want to know about it so I can protect her," Shinzoo stated indefinitely as she looked her Sensei directly in the eye.
"All right then, take care of her," Sensei smiled.
With that, Shinzoo went home with her family and the night ended peacefully.
…
"Wake up, Kurai, come on," Kenji's voice hit Kurai's ears as she turned over, trying to remain asleep.
"Five more minutes," she begged in her sleep.
"No, we don't have time for that. Our parents are expecting to meet us at the restaurant for breakfast in ten minutes. You were supposed to be up before I got here," Kenji argued.
Kurai shot up, wide awake.
"Why didn't you wake me up sooner? Now I don't have time to take a shower," she complained as she threw her blanket over his head, pulling a clean set of clothes out of her bag as she pulled her tennis uniform off. "And don't you dare come out from under that blanket!"
"Don't worry, you know I have no interest in you that way," Kenji reassured her. "But, before you get dressed in your usual outfit, I brought you something. It's in the bag by your feet."
Kurai stopped and opened the bag at her feet to reveal a knee-length, black, v-necked dress with long sleeves that had a loop to attach to her middle fingers.
"Why'd you bring this?" she sighed as she sat back.
"I thought you might want to look nice and show your parents that you're doing fine without them, that's all," Kenji explained.
"That was a nice thought, Kenji, really, but I'm not going to pretend to be something I'm not for them," Kurai stated as she refolded the dress and placed it gently in the bag again and pulled on her normal black, short-sleeved, mid-thigh-length dress and her black spandex shorts.
"Are you sure?" he asked as she pulled the blanket off of his head and stuffed it along with the dirty clothes back into the bag and started pulling a brush through her hair.
"Of course I'm sure, this is who I am, my parents need to see that," Kurai nodded. "And they need to see who you are, too, Kenji," she pointed out as she stared at his getup of black shorts, black sandals, a white T-shirt, without nail polish and his hair was died black. "What happened to the colors?"
"I covered it up with black hairspray," he admitted as he pointed out the fact that his hair wouldn't move.
"You know, I think you're the only boy I've ever met who would be willing to admit that he uses hairspray," Kurai joked. "Why do you go through so much when we have these date days?"
"Because it's one of the only times that I ever see my parents," he admitted. "I guess I just don't want them to be disappointed in me and disown me or something like that."
"Why do they spend so much time in America anyway?" Kurai asked.
"Hey, when you own three mansions you're bound to have a favorite one," Kenji shrugged. "I guess their favorite mansion just happens to be in America."
"You know what? I think that's one of the only things about this whole deal that I think would be all right if I lost this deal," Kurai sighed. "The fact that you and I are best friends and that we'd be able to live in America, as far away from our parents as possible."
"No kidding, um…we have five minutes," he pointed out.
"Oh, right," she shook her head as she closed up her bag and pushed it out of the opening in the roots before crawling out herself.
"Why didn't you buy shoes at least?" Kenji complained as she noticed her bare feet.
"Because, I'm not going to change in order to impress them, they're the ones who put me in this condition, and I couldn't be happier," she shrugged as she threw the bag over her shoulder and helped her best friend up.
Together they started heading over to the restaurant to meet up with their parents.
…
"Come on, where is everyone?" Shinzoo complained as she tapped her toe. "We're going to lose them before we even find them."
"Relax, they'll get here," Fuji smiled.
"Yeah, they're probably just having a hard time convincing the guys to come," Akari shrugged.
"I don't see why they would have a hard time," Chikyuu commented. "Momo-chan didn't need much convincing."
"That's because he's like totally gaga for you, Chikyuu," Shinzoo rolled her eyes.
"Oh no, who's going to get Kikumaru-kun?" Akari suddenly remembered.
"I'm way ahead of you," Koorai bragged as she joined up with the group, accompanied by both Oishi and Kikumaru.
"What's going on exactly?" Oishi asked, completely confused.
"Isn't it obvious?" Shinzoo asked. "This is a group date."
"G-group date?" Oishi gulped as Koorai clung to his arm.
"Yep, and you're my partner," Koorai bragged.
"Oh, speaking of which, I'll be right back," Shinzoo stated as she headed off.
"Where are you going?" Akari called after her.
"We can't leave Tezuka-teichou behind can we?" Shinzoo pointed out.
"Oh right!"
"All right, what are we doing here?" Seeshin asked as she looked around at the group with Kawamura beside her.
"Yay, the next couple showed up!" Akari celebrated.
"Couple?" Kawamura blinked in confusion.
"Yeah, you and Seeshin-teichou," Koorai agreed.
"I'm out of here," Seeshin stated.
"No, you can't leave!" Akari pouted. "We're going to spy on Kurai in order to figure out what this family thing is. And we thought it would be funner if we went in a group of couples."
"I don't get it either," Kikumaru commented.
Soon, everyone had arrived, and Shinzoo started barking out pairings.
"All right, this is a group date to watch over our dear Kurai," she started. "You are to stay with your date so that it looks natural just in case she sees us. Seeshin-teichou and Taka-san, Mizu and Inui, Hikaji and Kaidoh, Koorai and Oishi, Chikyuu and Momo, Akari and Fuji, and that just leaves Tezuka-teichou, Kikumaru-kun, and myself. Hmm…I didn't foresee this…what are we supposed to do, Akari?"
"I don't know, this is your brilliant plan," Akari responded.
"But, I need help!"
"I know, I know!" Shinzoo's sister jumped up from a bush and grabbed Kikumaru's arm. "I'll take redhead here and you can take four-eyes."
"Raiki, what are you doing here?" Shinzoo demanded.
"I just couldn't help but follow, you just made this whole thing sound so interesting," she bragged.
"But…what about martial arts class?" Shinzoo asked.
"If you can ditch so can I," Raiki smiled.
"All right, fine, just don't get too close to him, he's NOT for you," Shinzoo glared.
"'Kay," Raiki promised as she clung even tighter to Kikumaru's arm.
"Hey, don't we get a say in this?" Kikumaru asked as he started to lose the feeling in his arm.
"No," Akari and Shinzoo declared together. "And no one is running away either. Got that?"
