A Fanfiction Guide For Newbie's - Part Three - The Many Wards's of Tokyo



One of the most common mistakes in many stories is the
misconception that Nerima is a city in itself. However this is completely
and utterly false. Nerima is just one of the many wards that exist in
Japan. Dr. Tofu Ono will tell us more about the many divisions of Japan.


Dr. Tofu Ono: Japan in itself is divided into several tiers, with
many divisions within these tiers. This may sound confusing, but please
try and follow me here. On the first tier, which is also the highest tier,
come the 43 prefectures. These 43 prefectures are divided into one
metropolis, one territory, two urban prefectures, twelve specially
designated cities and others, which information is unavailable as of this
time. These are listed in the Administrative Subdivisions of Countries,
except for the twelve specially designated cities which are grouped with
the prefectures in which they are located. And next...

Kasumi: Oh! Doctor Tofu, I just came by to return this book I borrowed.

Doctor Tofu: Kasumi!

* Tofu's glasses fog over and he runs off with his skeleton Betty*

Kasumi: Oh my! I guess I'll just leave the book here...

*Kasumi walks off*

That's just great!!! Now who's gonna talk about the ward's of
Tokyo? Oh that's just great, he's the only one here...

Happosai: You call? I'll help you, if you help me...

Author: NO WAY!!! I don't wanna die an early death!!!

Happosai: Fine. Get somebody else to help ya then.

Author: How about I give ya a million yen. Will that tie ya over?

Happosai: Fine.

Happosai: Any way, now that's settled, the 2nd tier is divided
into cities and counties. The counties serve no purpose other than for
postal purposes. Which, if you want to know where the best places to hunt
my pretties are at, you just need...

*Suddenly a large group of angry females come charging in, looking to kill
or maim Happosai*

Happosai: SEE YA!!!

*Happosai run's off closely being chased by the angry females*

Author: Well since everyon's kinda run off, I guess I'll finish
discussing the wards of Japan. And if Happosai is thinking he's gonna
get 1 million yen after this...

*Screams of pain can be heard outside*

Anyway, finally we get to the third tier, which in itself is
divided into cities, towns, villages and the wards of Tokyo. Tokyo is
divided into twenty-three wards. Each of these wards has its own
local administrations. And of these wards, Nerima is one of them. Let
me repeat that, NERIMA IS ONE OF THE TWENTY-THREE WARDS OF TOKYO!!!
Also, Nerima is not a district, which is one misconception I myself have
been guilty of on more than one occasion.

The fourth tier is the other wards outside of Tokyo. The fifth is
divided into even more towns. In some cases, the towns on this tier are
subdivisions of towns on the third tier. And finally the sixth tier is
divided in itself into districts. These districts normally don't have
names of letters but are numbered. These district's have names such as
3-District or 4- District.

But above all these tier's are the nine regions of Japan. They
are Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kinki, Shikoku, Kyushu, Chugoku and
Okinawa. These regions have no administrative purpose.
