Chapter 1 (teaser/work in progress)
Akane was dressed in a black dress. Today they were going to visit her
mother's grave. Every year it reminded her of her loving and caring
mother. Every year, when they returned, she always ran to her room and
cried. Even last year, when Ranma had accompanied them to the
graveyard for the first time, she ran to her room and cried.
Thankfully Ranma left her alone to let her mourn. Ranma, there was the
source of some of her troubles. Six months ago, he had defeated
Saffron, and they almost got married that week. Because she didn't
marry him, she became angry, and of course, she took her anger out on
poor Ranma. One day, not too far off from the wedding date, she
malleted him to LEO for some stupid reason, and he never returned.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. During those
first few weeks, she grew worried that somehow Ranma was hurt. Since
he didn't return, he was either dead or no longer cared about her.
Either way, she had lost.
The other fiancées had given her trouble. All of them accused her of
scaring Ranma away with the marriage stunt. She tried telling them
that it wasn't her fault... that her dad and his coerced them to wed.
Of course they didn't listen to one word she said. So they decided to
take matters into their own hands and look for him themselves. Last
she heard about it, Shampoo and Ukyou were all over China trying to
see if he went there. After all, Ranma lost his chance with the
Nannichuan water during their so-called wedding.
Unfortunately, Akane couldn't afford to look for him. Even though she
began to find out more about her feelings, she just couldn't leave her
family and school. Besides, her sisters had convinced her to stay. No
way could Akane throw away her possible future for a boy whether or
not she had feelings for him. She figured that Kasumi and Nabiki had
some other reason for letting Ranma go without Akane searching for
him. Nabiki, she could understand, but Kasumi? Maybe Kasumi just
disapproved of the whole arranged engagement thing; at least Akane
hoped that was the reason. Soun, of course, wanted her to go look for
him. The schools had to be joined, after all. So instead of actively
looking for him like Shampoo and Ukyou were, she was either at the
library looking for signs of Ranma through newspapers, or she was in
the dojo practicing martial arts. She had to get better at it for when
Ranma returns. She had to, so that he'd be proud of her for once.
Besides, who would protect her with Ranma gone?
Genma had decided to teach her martial arts since there was a
possibility that Ranma would never return. The only solution they had
to "join" the schools was to teach the Tendo heir the Saotome version
of the Musabetsu Kakutou Ryuu. But they were hoping that that solution
would only be temporary.
About a month after Ranma's disappearance, Ryoga decided to show up.
Especially since word around town, or perhaps Nabiki told him, was of
Ranma's absence. Ryoga came to the dojo and finally told her of his
curse and his feelings for her. She reacted with her anger as usual,
and, like Ranma, she hasn't seen him since. From then on she vowed not
to let her anger get the better of her.
Each month without Ranma hurt. Every waking hour, Akane thought of
him. Even in her sleep there were times he appeared in her dreams.
Usually those dreams caused her to wake in cold sweat or in tears.
Never in her life had a boy caused her so much grief. Not even Tofu
sensei whom she had an infatuation with when she was younger. It had
to be love, right? Somehow Saotome Ranma had touched her heart despite
her efforts to push him away. It took six months of his absence for
her to realize it.
Turning away her thoughts, Akane returned to reality. Her family had
just left her behind. She asked them to leave, so she could have
private words with her mother. She didn't want anyone to hear what she
had to say to her mother, so she made sure that everyone left with the
bus, even Nabiki.
Nabiki was sometimes a part of her troubles much like Ranma was. She
had the tendency to find out things about a person and use it against
them. When Ranma showed up, she told Kuno about the engagement, which
started a whole package of problems. There was one time she exploited
the engagement and use Akane's emotions against her. Even six months
ago, Nabiki had the audacity to ruin the day that was so important to
her. All of it was for money, so Akane had some anger toward her
mercenary sister. Sometimes Akane couldn't understand why her sister
was the way she was, but then she remembered that their mother's death
changed them all.
(Author's Note: I know I uploaded this prematurely. One reason is that
I wanted to see people's opinion of this idea. Really, I started this
before having a base idea (stupid, I know. I just decided to type and
boom this is what I got...). But perhaps you can help me. I could do
this as a crossover easily. I just don't know what a crossover of if I
do. I also thought that maybe I can have it that Ranma ends up in some
world or in some point in time, namely the past (but future is
possible). Or Ranma decided to find himself or maybe decided to try a
new life. I could use your help. Review please. C&C welcome. Flames
too (but be nice). Thanks! Ja ne! <crosses fingers> After all, it's my
first fic.)
