Episode 2, Filling in the gaps. Or at least some of them.

*********

We plan to meet up with Kasumi in Osaka, after a boat ride out from Tokyo. Hopefully Ryoga will be in town to help out with the return of the flagpole.

"Who is Ryoga?" I hear you ask. He's a good friend of mine; I met him about ten years ago when I was training with my father.

*********

Flush back time!

"Now son, when you have your prize, what are you going to do with it?"

I pondered my father's question. "Obviously, I can't keep everything I steal, I can't re-cut every gem. I'd need to get rid of the goods. Art dealers would be suspicious of me if I asked them they were interested in the Venus de Milo. Is this where fence comes in?"

I saw my father smile at me. "Yes it is son."

"But how will I know if I can trust him?"

"You will make a worthy heir with your brains, Ranma. This trust thing works both ways; your fence needs to know if what he's got is the real thing or if he can sell it on. You need to know that he's not going to rip you off or sell you out to the police."

I had watched a few movies where things like that had happened, so there was a distinct possibility of it happening to me.

"What's your recommendation?"

"You could always make sure that the two of you have a good working relationship. Keep it friendly but professional; don't give him a reason to screw you over. Don't waste his time with high profile items like the Mona Lisa or the Imperial Jewels."

I nod in understanding, "he won't be able to sell them on. If he tried, the authorities would arrest him."

Something occurred to me. "But what if he sells me out? We are talking about someone who deals in stolen goods, not exactly the most trustworthy of people." I thought for a moment then I snapped my fingers. "The first rule of this job is to always have a back up plan."

I could see the pride in my father's eyes. "That's my boy. Now I want you to meet a friend of mine, Daisuke Niwa. If I recall correctly, he's training a replacement as well.

"Ryoga, don't wander off! We're nearly there."

"Niwa-kun!"

"Saotome-kun!"

The two adults embraced each other like the old friends that they are.

"Daisuke, this is my son Ranma," my father gestured to me.

"Hello," I bow to him.

"Genma, this is my heir, Ryoga Hibiki."

Ryoga and I waved at each other awkwardly.

"Hi."

"Hi."

As my father and his friend turned off to talk to each other about business, I asked Ryoga some questions.

"So then, what are you training to do?"

"I'm not entirely sure, but it looks like I'm going to be fence, like my boss. How about you?"

"I'm not sure if I can tell you, my father said that it's a secret."

My father called out to me. "That's ok, Ranma. Ryoga here is going to be your fence when you two are ready."

"Oh. Well, in that case, I'm the Saotome heir. I will be the kaitou known as the Wild Horse. Want to be friends?" I extended my hand to the bewildered young man.

"Er, yeah, sure."

I could tell by the look on his face that he didn't have many friends. He was, and still is, like me in that respect.

Oh we may have our hangers on and groupies, but to tell you the truth, we don't have many people we trust with our lives.

He smiled at me, a genuine smile of friendship. I can see why he has girls glomping him all the time. He's just as bad as I am when it comes to the ladies.

He's not a pervert or a playboy; it's just that he has girls sneaking into his room and a strange ability to wander into the strangest and most remote of places.

And some of these places have been without handsome, strong men for some time.

Some of the stories he tells me, if they are true, would be worthy of documenting for posterity.

But anyway, enough reminiscing, I'm just hoping that he's in town to me out with the flagpole. I don't know what Kuno's going to do when the brass start shouting at him for losing so much face in public.

I call up the number from a payphone, waiting for the voice mail, I leave my message.

"Fangboy, this is Braidboy. Are you in Osaka town? I need to talk about the return of something. Leave me a message at the Nikko hotel, you know by the airport for the name Jo Gosunkugi."

I turn to Nabiki and Akane. "Is there anything that you want to get before we go to meet with Kasumi at the hotel?"

"Dinner?" Akane asks. Seeing that we're in a different part of the country, she can be herself and not the angry tomboy she plays at work.

"It is getting to be that time, Master Ranma." Nabiki is the same wherever we go.

"If it's alright with you, we can order room service. And lots of it, I'm hungry too."

After a slap up feast that no doubt will cost me a fortune, Kasumi informs me that we have a response from Ryoga via email.

"What does he have to say, Kasumi?"

Kasumi giggled at Ryoga's message. "It seems that the local Yakuza are willing to do a deal to return the flagpole. Have you heard of Naoko Takahashi?"

Well, who hasn't? She's only the first woman to lead a crime family. Not only that, but she's stunningly attractive.

"Oh yes, what can I do for her?"

"Well, she needs to put an uppity policeman in his place. That and she's trying to convince Ryoga to pay her a visit."

"That Ryoga, is there no end to his lechery?" Akane huffs.

"Now Akane, Ryoga as a similar problem to Master Ranma," Kasumi points out.

"Are you saying that you don't find Ryoga attractive, Akane?" Nabiki spoke from in front of the TV. She'd been scouring the news channels looking to see what the official line on the theft was.

"Well, no. But..." Akane's voice became quiet.

I chuckle at the scene. "Akane, it's not Ryoga's fault that people find him attractive. I have to fend people off too. It's not as easy as you think for a guy."

I put my arm around Akane to prove my point. "You see, you can scream, hit me or whatever to get me to leave you alone. For a guy, in order to push you away, I have to risk touching you in a way that looks like I'm trying to cop a feel. If you do manage to get them off you, they have been known to cry foul. Either by claiming that you assaulted them or be asking if you're gay. Both of those harm a guy's reputation like you wouldn't believe."

"I didn't realise that, Master Ranma."

"I know, Akane, but you should know that men don't always enjoy being chased by women all the time." I give her a quick kiss on the cheek to make her feel better.

I notice that Kasumi was watching the whole thing. Judging by the glare I can feel from by the TV, Nabiki saw it as well.

"When is our appointment to see the Yakuza?" Nabiki's cunning mind is plotting something.

"10 a.m. tomorrow." Kasumi's voice has a tone that's going to suggest something tiring.

Nabiki is now crawling towards me. It seems that we're going to make most of the hotel room this evening.

I play my last card, knowing full well that the inevitable is coming. "But there aren't enough pillows to go around."

My reluctance is only role-play; we call it "the reluctant harem master and the naughty minxes" and it's a fun game to play.

"We have your pillows right here, Master Ranma." Kasumi and Nabiki start undressing as they speak in unison. It's quite scary when they do things like that. Sometimes it makes me wonder if they are sisters.

Unfortunately, I find that particular line of thought highly arousing right now.

I glance at Akane. I get the feeling, mostly from her rubbing her hand on my thigh, that she wants to play as well.

Taking her hand, I give her my best "it's playtime" smile.

Now Akane may not be as smart as Nabiki or have world class cooking skills like Kasumi. Nor does she have a physique like theirs, but she's got plenty of heart and she goes like a train.

Oh yes, thanks to her martial (and marital) arts training, she could suck a golf ball through a garden hose.

*********

I have come to realise that time perception in humans is a strange thing. It is my 24th birthday soon, and would you believe it, it'll be my tenth anniversary of meeting Kasumi.

Ah, Kasumi. A true beauty, if ever there was one. She was the first girl I kissed.

Unfortunately, some protocol thing about my position stops me from marrying my assistants. Otherwise I'd have married her before I met Nabiki and Akane.

Would you like to know more about how we met?

*********

Second flush back of the chapter. Sorry about that, but you did want to know more about the history of the characters.

I walked to the front door to see my parents talking to an attractive young woman. "Mom, Dad, who is this?"

"Ranma, this is Kasumi Ono, she will be assisting you in all aspects of your work." My mother had non-traditional ideas when it came to certain things, namely sex. "What do you think to him, Kasumi?"

"Oh my, he is a handsome one."

"Hi, I'm Ranma, do you want to be friends?" I asked her.

My father spluttered, as he was more traditionally minded when it came to the family work.

"Yes, I'd like that, Master Ranma." Kasumi gave me a curtsey.

"Ranma, would go and tell the cook to prepare some refreshments, please."

"Yes mom."

**********

I get the feeling that was when my mother told Kasumi that part of her duties as my assistant were to take care of my needs.

Including any "manly urges" I had.

I hope that's the reason, and it's not because Ryoga and I have got some weird condition that makes women really horny.

Though I am beginning to wonder, what with my fan club at school and Ryoga's exploits.

Hang on a minute, what about Nabiki and Akane? The never met my parents, and Kasumi holds manners in too high a regard to she suggest to them that they could waltz into my bedroom and do all sorts of incredibly improper things with me.

Though that's not stopped them from trying that one several times before.

This bears some serious thought.

But how does one go about such an investigation? I can hardly burst out over dinner, "hey I was wondering, why do find me so damn attractive that you have to wage an internal battle of epic proportions just to keep your hands off me?", now can I?

Though that would make for an interesting evening's discussion, don't you think?

Maybe I should get Nabiki to run a full series of tests on me?

No, I'd have to be careful or they'd get the wrong idea and think that I'm dying or something.

Now where was I? Ahh, yes Kasumi. The first girl I fell in love with. Not the only girl, but the first one never the less.

I get the feeling that Nabiki and Akane are jealous because of that.

They shouldn't as they all elicit strong feelings from me. There is something about Akane that makes me want to protect her. Before you say anything, that's not a euphemism. Though if that ass of her were any cuter, there would be a tax on it.

As for Nabiki, well her negotiating skills would cause many people to lose profits, if she were let loose in the business world.

To be continued

Thanks go out to Taxzombie and Chi Vayne for their assistance.

Author's notage:

In case you were wondering, this Akane is the sweet girl Kasumi mentioned in the first episode/volume. The angry tomboy/violent maniac is just an act. And one that this Ranma hates seeing.

Also, "turnabout is fair play". Meaning that I had Ryoga neutered in Project Mile Two, so I thought that it would acceptable to show him a more favourable light in this story.

Next time, I might reveal my plans for Kodachi and have more of Ranma's antics at school.

Until then, laterer.
