Mating Dance

It's Valentine's Day. Momma and Poppa are staying in today. Really what were they going to do? They were getting old. But still, there was some romance there. Poppa kissed Momma on the cheek. She giggled.

“Happy Valentine's Day,” he whispered. She turned and kissed him.

“Dinner is tonight?” Momma asked.

“Of course,” Poppa said. “What's on the menu?” His wife giggled.

“You're going to have to see,” she said. Poppa grinned. Someone cleared their throat. The couple looked up. Toshiki stood in the doorway. Momma and Poppa cleared his throat.

“Heading out?” he asked.

“Uh-huh,” Toshiki said. “I'm just going to grab a bite to eat.” He walked to the fridge. Toshiki grabbed a rice ball and walked out. Momma and Poppa stared at him. This stared at him. They looked at each other and chuckled.

Dinner was simple. Just Momma and Poppa tonight. She smiled at him.

“This is nice,” she said.

“Uh-huh,” he said. Poppa picked up his chopsticks.

“Time to eat,” he said. Momma picked up her chopsticks. Garlic steak. They rarely ate beef. She decided to surprise him with that.

“It smells good,” Poppa said as he poked his head into the kitchen. Momma giggled.

“You're going to love this,” she said Poppa chuckled.

Momma watched as he took a bite.

“So, how is it?” she asked. Poppa's eyes lit up as he chewed.

“Love it,” he said.

“I'm so glad you like it!” Momma said, gasping. She took a bite too.

“Mmm! This is good,” she said. They dug in. Poppa was the one to bring the wine home. She found the candles earlier in the day. Dessert was going to be a blast. Momma went all out for this one. She leaned close.

“I brought you your favorite cake,” she said. Poppa looked up.

“You mean it?” he asked.

“Uh-huh,” she said. “Hang on.” She got up and walked into the kitchen. Poppa looked up with chopsticks in his hand. His wife came back with a cake box. Momma grinned at him.

“Vola!” she said. She set the box down on the table.

“Open it,” Momma said. Poppa smiled as he opened it. Inside sat a large black and white chocolate cake.

“It's gorgeous!” Poppa said. Momma looked ready to fly away.

“I love you!” she said. Poppa ran his finger on a white spiral and dabbed the frosting on the tip of her nose.

“I love you too,” he said. The couple shared a kiss.

Happy Valentine's Day
