Playground Love

Yumi has plans. She smiled to herself in the kitchen. She was going to win him over today. Yumi tasted the chocolate mix.

“Mmm,” she said. Not there, but on the right track. She had her mother's help. Momma was more than happy to do so.

“What kind of chocolate?” she asked. Yumi grinned.

“Honmei Choco!” she said.

“Okay,” her mother said. Yumi looked like an angel with her grin.

The girl smiled as she finished stirring the chocolate. Toshiki was going to love this. She hummed to herself as she got to work.

Chocolate wasn't the only thing she was going to give him.

Yumi had been planning today. She had to get him a gift. Something special. However, the family didn't have much money. Maybe get Toshiki a watch? Nah. Too simple. Maybe a tie? No. Again, too simple. Yumi found herself stuck. Time to ask for help. Her Poppa came into the picture.

“Sure,” he said. “I'll help you.” Yumi perked up.

“Thank you, Poppa!” she said. “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” The girl kept bowing many times. Poppa patted her on the head.

“There, there,” he said. “Easy, sweetie.” His daughter took a breath.

“Okay,” she said. Her father smiled. He took her to Larson's to buy a gift.

Yumi had to go to class before she could give Toshiki his gifts. Her classmates were giving chocolate to their partners and crushes. Yumi didn't mind the wait. She smiled to herself at her desk.

“You're in a good mood today,” one of her classmates said. “Are you getting a gift for your boyfriend?”

“Uh-huh,” Yumi said. She smiled the whole time.

“What are you getting him?” another classmate asked. Yumi tapped the side of her nose.

“Secret,” she said. The girl giggled. She spent the day in a cloud. Yumi couldn't wait to see Toshiki again. He was going to love her gifts. And maybe she'll finally get an answer? Yumi would have to see. For now, she had school to get through. Yumi could wait. This evening would be worth it.
