Chapter 4

With his hands trembling, Touma looked over the body of Seiji. The arrow had driven into his left shoulder. A few centimeters lower and the arrow would have pierced his heart. The archer felt the pulse of the blond, it was weak, but regular.

He opened the link and called upon his friends. Shin was the first to answer. The archer asked him to call an ambulance and to come where he was in the backyard.

Those minutes, while waiting for Shin, appeared interminable. Tears ran along Touma's cheeks and fell onto Seiji's face.

"Seiji, you don't have the right to die ! Not before you know that I-" He didn't have time to finish his sentence, because he heard Suiko to arrive. He turned his head in his direction and noted that he could see again.

"Touma, what is going on ?" Shin asked him while kneeling near the blond, but the other didn't answer. "Touma do you hear me ? Touma ??? But what have you done ?" The auburn haired boy held him by the shoulders and shook slightly him, but he still didn't react.

Not seeing any reaction from of Touma, Shin left him and took care of Seiji. He tried to stop the hemorrhaging by putting his sweater around the arrow. Fortunately, Ryo and Shu arrived finally with the ambulance driver.

The ambulance workers carried the blond on a stretcher to their vehicle. Ryo also climbed in and they left, all sirens wailing, for the hospital.

The others followed the ambulance in the car. Shu, who was at the wheel, asked Shin what had happened.

"I don't know. Touma hasn't said anything since I went back to him. It's like he's petrified," he answered.

Suddenly the archer started to tremble and cry. "Touma ? Calm down !"
"It's my fault !" Exclaimed the archer.
"Tell us what happened."
"Forgive me Seiji. Forgive me, forgive me, forgive me..." Touma was in so much shock, that he was incapable of explaining anything.

Arrived at the hospital, Seiji was taken charge of by the doctors and led in operating room, while Tenku was examined.

The doctor who had seen Touma came to speak to Shin, Ryo, and Shu who were in the waiting room.

"Your friend is in a state of shock. I had to administer tranquilizer."
"Can we see him ?" Shu asked.
"Yes, but he's a little stunned. I will show you to him quickly and I will ask a nurse to notify you when Mr. Date leaves the operating room."

When they entered Touma's room, he was half-unconscious and as always not very lucid. His friends sat down beside him and awaited news of Seiji.

Three hours passed before a nurse finally arrived to inform them that the operation was finished. Shin went to the intensive care with her, while Shu and Ryo remained with Touma.

The surgeon explained to him that the blond had lost a large amount of blood, but he had been lucky that the arrow hadn't caused more damage. If all went well, tomorrow he could leave the intensive care and in one week he could go home. Suiko heaved a sigh of relief.

There he remained a few moments by Seiji and returned to Shu and Ryo to reassure them.

The archer came round gently and asked for any news of his friend.

"He is well. The surgeon said that he had been lucky," Shin answered while coming back into the room and sitting on the bed. "Could you explain us what was happened ?"
"I don't know really anymore. I have the memories a little confused. I'm sorry." Touma didn't dare to look at Shin, because he would immediately noticed that he lied.
"It's probably because of the medicines. We will let you rest and will return tomorrow to take you back home." The warrior of water kissed him on the forehead and left with the others.

In the corridors, Shin was very pensive.

"Hello Shin ! Are you with us ?" Ryo shook a hand in front of the eyes of Suiko. "Something's wrong ?"
"I have the impression that Touma hiding something from us. I have a bad feeling about this. I hope only that I am mistaken."

The next day, Shin, accompanied by Ryo, returned to the hospital. When they arrived in Touma's room, they found another person resting in the bed. They went to the receptionist to know if he had been transferred to another room.

"He left this morning," the receptionist answered. "He gave me a letter to give to your friend that is in the intensive care."

"Mr. Date, calm down ! Or else your injury will reopen," shouted a nurse, while trying to keep him lying down.
"Let go of me, I must leave !!!" Seiji struggled and succeeded in releasing himself of the nurse's grip. He got up, but his legs didn't support him and he fell.

Shin and Ryo arrived at the same moment. The auburn haired boy rushed towards Seiji.

"Shin ! Why ? Why didn't you tell me anything ?" He asked while crying.
"What are you talking about ?" He took the swordsman in his arms and put down him in the bed.

Seiji held out a crumpled sheet to him, which he held in his trembling hand. Shin started reading it, while Ryo tried to comfort the blond who sobbed.

Seiji,

One day you asked me if I was hiding something from you and I told you no. I lied to you ! And one of my secrets nearly cost you your life and for that I can never forgive myself.

There is also another thing that I can confess to you, because now it has no more importance, since I have decided to leave. I love you. Three words that I never dared to say to you, for fear that you would reject me. Shin told me that I was stupid and perhaps he was not completely wrong. But I preferred to preserve our friendship, instead of messing it all up.

Even though I have made the decision to leave, know that I can never forget the friendship that you always gave me. It was the most precious thing in my life.
