Chapter Four: Heart Of The Ocean
By: Demon Priestess Saturn
Kento walked up the large staircase to the second floor of Cye's house. He had been trying to figure out a way to calm Cye down. He reached the top of the long staircase and stared down the long hall. As he stared at the framed photographs of Cye's family on the white walls he wondered which room was Cye's. As he walked down that hall to the last room with the closed door he felt something strange. It was a warm feeling something he knew from long ago. But for some reason he couldn't remember where he had felt this before. He stopped dead in his tracks feeling a strong serge of power sweep through his body.
“What the hell?” Kento said to himself as the feeling suddenly vanished. In front of him the closed bedroom door slowly opened. Cye stepped into the hall with tears streaming down his face. He looked at Kento with a curious look on his face.
“Did… Did you feel that?” Cye sniffed.
“Yeah…” Kento said but he was too concerned about Cye to worry about the strange energy. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah.” Cye said sadly while wiping the tears away from his sea green eyes. “This isn't the first time me and Sayoko had a fight.”
“I'm sure it's not but I was just worried.” Kento said as he stared back at Cye with concern written in his blue eyes.
“Really I'm okay.” Cye smiled sadly. Silence passed between the two for a moment before Kento thought of something to say.
“Hey you know I was thinking… Maybe we should take a walk on the beach.” Kento smiled.
“Okay.” Cye agreed happily.
“Alright lets go.” Kento turned and started walking down the hall with Cye. “You want to here something strange?”
“What?” Cye asked with curiosity.
“I suddenly feel stronger… You know like I used to when I first got my armor.” Kento stated calmly as he started walking down the staircase. Cye stopped on the stairs and stared calmly at Kento's back as he continued down the stairs.
“The armors…” Cye said in almost a whisper. Kento stopped and turned around. He looked up the stairs at the troubled expression on Cye's face.
“What do you mean the armors?” Kento asked.
“I feel the connection with my armor… That strange surge of energy, could it have been our armors?” Cye looked into Kento's big blue eyes.
“It couldn't be. I mean it's been two years Cye. There is no way our armors would come back after two years.” Kento smirked.
“Yeah I suppose that was a stupid thing to say.” Cye looked at the floor.
“Don't worry about it. Come on lets go.” Kento smiled while turning around the corner. Cye looked up and started to walk down the stairs once more, but he couldn't help but think that his armor was somewhere close by. As Cye turned the corner and walked into the large living room, he spotted Kento heading out the back door. Cye followed Kento out the door and onto the large porch. Cye stopped next to Kento and stared at the blue ocean. Seagulls flew in circles around the waters edge and landed softly on the sandy beach. Cye glanced over at Kento's serine face. Kento also faced the ocean, taking a deep breath he smiled to himself and stretched. The smell of the sea was lovely this time of year. Opening his eyes he looked at Cye.
“Well shall we go?” Kento smiled happily.
“Yeah.” Cye smiled back closing his sea green eyes.
“Alright! Here I come seagulls!” Kento said as he jumped off the porch onto the warm sand. Cye smiled and quickly followed his best friend.
“So how far do you think we should go?” Cye asked when he caught up with Kento.
“As long as we want.” Kento's smile widened.
“Hey look…” Cye pointed off into the distance at a mountain with thick black smoke coming off it. “It looks like there's a fire over there.”
“Oh no…” Kento's eyes widen in fear as he realized that was near Mia and Ryo's mansion.
“What is it?” Cye looked at him with concern.
“It's nothing…” Kento replied and continued to stare at the mountain.
“Why don't I believe you?” Cye asked as he noticed the disturbed look on Kento's face.
“What are you two doing out here?” Kento and Cye looked over to see Ryuusake staring at them. “What's so fascinating about a mountain on fire?”
“You wouldn't understand.” Kento sneered.
“Yeah just like he doesn't understand anything about the Mouri family.” Cye glared. “You are such an idiot. Why does my sister want to marry such a twit?”
“Yeowch…” Kento replied as Cye walked past Ryuusake.
“Cye…” Ryuusake said calmly.
“What?” Cye snapped at turned to face his future brother-in-law.
“I know more about your family then you think. It's true I didn't know about the connection your family had with the sea but I assure you I do know a lot. In fact I know a great deal about the sea. I am a certified diver.” Ryuusake tried to make peace between them.
“Can you prove it?” Cye asked.
“Yes I can…” Ryuusake didn't get time to finish.
“Good.” Cye smiled sinisterly. “Then how about you an me have a little diving contest tonight.”
“A diving contest…” Ryuusake gulped.
“Yeah whoever can dive the deepest wins. Will take my dad's boat out on the ocean after dark. We can have our contest just off the shore. Out there.” Cye pointed out a crossed the ocean where the waves seemed particularly choppy.
“Out there… After dark… But the waves are really bad today.” Ryuusake said nervously.
“Are you scared Ryuu? I guess I will have to tell Sayoko how much of a wimp you are.” Cye teased.
“I'm not a wimp. I'll accept your challenge. I'll even shake on it.” Ryuusake glared and extended his open hand to Cye. Cye stared at Ryuusake's extended hand for a moment. As he stared at Ryuu's hand Cye's mouth opened slightly and a hint of fear seeped into his sea green eyes. Cye slowly extended his nervous hand and shook Ryuu's. Cye's worried face turned into one of determination and he looked directly into Ryuusake's eyes.
“Looks like we have ourselves a contest.” Cye said calmly as he pulled his hand away from Ryuu's.
“Okay then I will see you at your dad's boat tonight just after dark.” Ryuusake smiled and turned fast on his feet. Cye watched Ryuusake quickly take off towards the house.
“Cye… Are you sure that was such a good idea?” Kento asked nervously. “I mean a diving contest after dark. What if something bad happens?”
“That's why I am going to ask you to come with us. You can stay on the boat a keep a look out. If something happens you can call my sister or someone.” Cye replied.
“Ah… What… You think you can just…” Kento started to object but then noticed the worried look on Cye's face. “Sure I'll come. But you don't seem like you want to really do this.”
“I'm a little scared. I didn't expect him to accept the challenge. I guess I really don't know him.” Cye stared at the mountains in the distance.
“Well let's just hope you two get the chance to know each other.” Kento sighed and laid down on the beach.
………………….
Ryo opened his eyes to find himself lying on his back staring at a white ceiling. Where am I? He thought to himself as he glanced around the room. He looked just off to his left and spotted some very familiar photographs in frames on the wall. Instantly he realized where he was, he was in his and Mia's living room. He sat up from the couch letting the blanket that was keeping him warm fall off him.
“Mia?” Ryo said in a scratchy voice. His throat stung and felt extremely dry. I breathed in too much smoke. Ryo stood slowly feeling a little dizzy. He wandered into the kitchen and pulled a glass out of one of the cabinets. He walked over to the sink and turned the facet on. After filling his glass with water he quickly drunk it down. Putting the glass on the counter he felt a little dizzy. What the hell happened? The last thing I remember was falling to the ground after being surrounded by fire. Ryo thought to himself while staring down into the porcelain white sink. Ryo looked up quickly as he realized he didn't know what had happened to Leon and Kevin. Ryo turned to run out of the kitchen but stopped as soon as he spotted a familiar face in the doorway.
“Ryo?” Rowen said calmly. “Are you okay?”
“Ro… Rowen? What are you doing here?” Ryo asked in a slightly raspy voice.
“You shouldn't be up. Come on lets go into the living room and talk.” Rowen replied as he grabbed Ryo and walked him back into the living room.
“Ro what the hell is going on? What happened to the poachers, what about the fire, and how did I…” Ryo said as Rowen placed him on the couch.
“The poachers are fine they were taken to the hospital, the fire is out, and I brought you down the mountain.” Rowen answered. “The answer to you first question is I came here to ask you and Mia a big favor.”
“Oh.” Ryo said trying to clear his mind. For a moment the two boys let the awkward silence engulf them.
“Ryo… What happened on the mountain?” Rowen broke the silence.
“I don't know. A fire broke out and I tried to save the poachers. I must have inhaled too much smoke because I blacked out.” Ryo said still deep in thought.
“Then tell me how you put out the fire.” Rowen said calmly. Ryo looked up at Rowen with a confused look in his tiger blue eyes.
“What do you mean Rowen? I didn't put out that fire. It was surrounding the poachers and me. I black out and I am pretty sure that fire was still raging when I passed out.” Ryo said.
“Look at the table next to you and you will understand what happened.” Rowen said quietly. Ryo looked strangely at Rowen and slowly turned his head to look at the coffee table next to him. The table was an ordinary oak coffee table but there was one strange thing about it. On top of the table lay a red marble with a kanji symbol for righteousness in its center. Ryo gasped and picked the marble up in his hands.
“It's… It's my armor.” Ryo rasped.
“Yeah talk about weird. It was in your hand when I found you with Leon and Kevin. Kevin seemed to be in shock. He couldn't explain how a big red light suddenly came and took the fire into you. He thought I wasn't going to believe him.” Rowen sat down on the floor in front of Ryo.
“This is very weird. That was the same place where I found it when I was sixteen.” Ryo said out loud.
“Mia's looking into it right now.” Rowen said calmly.
“This is my armor from Talpa. But I thought it was destroyed forever when Mukala's black armor fought with the white armor.” Ryo whispered.
“I don't know but apparently yours isn't the only one.” Rowen said calmly. “Mia told me my kanji appeared on my forehead again.”
“So that means we're the Ronin Warriors yet again.” Ryo said still staring at his kanji marble. Rowen stood up slowly and started walking for the front door. “Where are you going?”
“I'm going to get my armor.” Rowen replied swiftly. “I'll be back in a few hours or so.”
“Hey Rowen.” Ryo looked at him.
“Yeah?” Rowen stopped walking but didn't turn around to face Ryo.
“Be careful huh.” Ryo said in a worried tone. Rowen didn't say anything he just continued walking and disappeared out the front door.
………………….
Cye walked slowly into his mother's kitchen. He had less than an hour before his contest with Ryuusake. Kento was sitting at the kitchen table talking with someone on the phone. Kento had been talking to the person for a half an hour, which Cye thought was strange. Kento had seemed nervous since they noticed the fire on the top of the mountains. What bothered Cye even more was that Kento didn't even explain what was wrong he just asked to use the phone to make sure things were okay.
“Okay I'll see you soon. Bye.” Kento smiled to himself as he hung up the phone.
“Are you going to tell me what's going on?” Cye asked in concern.
“I promise to tell you later. Cos if I tell you now I will be forced to give something away. And seeing how it's a birthday present I don't want to get killed for spilling the beans.” Kento replied with a wink.
“Okay fine.” Cye grumbled as he fettled with a cutting knife.
“Don't hurt yourself.” Kento said.
“I wont.” Cye said simply.
“Yeah but aren't you still nervous? I mean you and Ryuu have a showdown in less than an hour.” Kento looked at the clock.
“Actually strangely enough I don't feel nervous at all. I mean we'll be diving in the dark with air tanks and I know that should worry me but for some reason I feel like I have to go diving today.” Cye said calmly as he chopped some onions.
“Couldn't you just go diving now while the sun is still up?” Kento leaned back in his chair.
“No because I have to show Ryuu that I'm not a wimp either.” Cye retorted.
“Oh I see. You want to keep your honor. You know it's not worth dieing over.” Kento teased.
“You're not going to change my mind.” Cye chimed.
“Yeah I know once you've made up your mind you've made up your mind. I get it.” Kento sighed. “I just wish you hadn't said after dark that's all.”
“I'm glad I did.” Cye said suddenly. Kento blinked.
“Why?” Kento stared at his back.
“Because it adds to the challenge. I don't want this to be too easy or it would be no fun.” Cye replied.
“Well I have to give you merits for bravery.” Kento smiled.
“Thanks.” Cye laughed.
“Hey!” Ryuusake walked into the kitchen. “You ready?”
“But it's not dark yet.” Cye said calmly while he looked at Ryuu.
“Well by the time we get the stuff in the boat and drive out to the spot it will be. So lets get started.” Ryuusake looked at him.
“Oh alright.” Cye replied as he put down his cutting knife and walked over to the sink to clean his hands.
“I'll help you move the air tanks to the boat.” Kento said quietly.
“Your friend is coming?” Ryuusake asked.
“Yes because if something happens someone need to call Sayoko.” Cye sneered. “You think I would do this without a safety net?”
“Oh… No I didn't think that. That would just be stupid. Anyway thank you Kento for coming. I'll be out in the garage waiting.” Ryuusake smiled an idiot's smile and walked out of the kitchen.
“He seriously thought this was going to be between you and him.” Kento looked dumbfounded. “Man that guy is not one for brains.”
“Well, I got to say he seems very nervous.” Cye said as he dried his hands.
“Are you sure he's suitable for diving? Should we even be letting him?” Kento looked at Cye.
“He said he was a certified diver.” Cye pointed out.
“And you believed him?” Kento looked surprised. Cye stared back at Kento for a moment before replying.
“Okay I want to see his certificate.”
