Chapter Six: Missing A Ronin

Cye wondered down the stairs and into the entrance hall. He yawned as he walked into his mom's kitchen and spotted Sayoko. Cye blinked for a moment and noticed that she was cooking breakfast.

 

“You're up early this morning.” Cye said a little sleepily. Sayoko looked over at him and smiled a little.

“Actually you're the one who slept in.” Sayoko answered.

“Really?” Cye looked over at the clock and realized it was nine eighteen. “Wow… I did. So why are you cooking? It couldn't be because I was still asleep.”

“Ryuu's really sick. And mom's not feeling good either. I think they've both caught a flu bug.” Sayoko frowned.

“Here let me help.” Cye quickly walked over and started to help with breakfast.

“Cye…” Sayoko said as she stared at the eggs she was cooking.

“Yeah.” Cye looked over at her.

“I'm sorry about what I said yesterday. That was unfair to you and to your friend. I apologize.” Sayoko said calmly.

“It's okay.” Cye said half heartily. “Have you seen Kento this morning?”

“Yeah he's on the phone in the living room.” Sayoko said.

“On the phone…” Cye looked confused as he walked out of the kitchen and into the living room.

“Yeah I know about Cye and all but this is important too.” Kento looked mad. “Why would Rowen make up a story like that?” Kento continued to argue with the person as Cye sat down on the couch a crossed from Kento. Kento had his back to him and was leaning over the back of the chair staring out the large bay windows. “Where's Rowen now? Okay… All I'm saying is that strange things have been happening. Like that fire near your house yesterday. Why the hell would there be a fire up there and this time of year? Not to mention you found your armor there. Okay maybe that was just an accident. Cye found his armor in the ocean yesterday and then Ryuu ended up with a strange cut on his arm. Ryuu? Ryuu is Cye's going to be brother in law. Yes he's Sayoko's fiancé. But that's not the point here.” Kento turned around and almost jumped when he saw Cye sitting there. “I'm not saying we should cancel the plans all I'm saying is that we shouldn't ignore what's going on. Because if Rowen isn't lying you know what that means.” Kento sighed and looked upset. “Alright fine I wont say anything. I'll see you later. Okay bye.” Kento hung up the phone.

 

“What was that about?” Cye asked.

“Stupid Ryo and his damn arguing is pissing me off.” Kento mumbled.

“What's going on?” Cye looked concerned.

“I can't tell you. But I assume if you want to know you can find out when we go over there later.” Kento said calmly.

“We're going over there?” Cye brighten up.

“Yeah it was supposed to be a surprise but you just caught me red handed.” Kento said.

“When are we leaving?” Cye asked.

“Whenever your ready. You may as well pack for a few days.” Kento stared out the window.

“Are you sure your okay?” Cye frowned.

“Don't worry about me. I'm just a little mad. But I guess I shouldn't let it bother me.” Kento stood up and smiled. “That breakfast smells good.”

“Oh yeah.” Cye ran back into the kitchen. Kento followed and sat at the kitchen table. Sayoko had a couple of trays on the table that she was organizing food on.

“What's that for?” Kento asked.

“For Ryuu and mom.” Sayoko said. “They both have the flu.” Sayoko picked up one of the trays and walked out of the kitchen.

“Your sister looks worried.” Kento looked at Cye.

“Yeah I noticed.” Cye commented as he put on some bacon and eggs. “So what was Rowen lying about?”

“Ryo said something about Rowen being crazy. I guess Rowen saw a man in the road and swerved his car. Ryo thinks he must have hit his head to hard because he started having hallucinations.”

“That doesn't sound good. He wasn't hurt was he?” Cye looked at Kento.

“No it's like Ryo said he started seeing things but I don't think what Rowen saw was seeing things. I mean we had that fire on the mountain behind Ryo's house yesterday and then we found your armor in ocean that afternoon. I don't think this all is coincidence. Plus Rowen keeps insisting what he saw happened.” Kento leaned back in his chair.

“Well if he hit his head and was seeing things of course he would believe them.” Cye pointed out.

“Yeah but this story was way to detailed not to mention there was only one thing that I considered weird happened.” Kento said. “Well okay maybe three things.”

“What were they?” Cye looked at him.

“For one he said Cale attacked him, two he thinks Anubis is alive because of this one attack he encountered, and three he saw a dead woman who turned into a skeleton.” Kento said calmly.

“Sounds like he did hit his head.” Cye said calmly as he started setting up they're plates.

“You think?” Kento looked at him.

“Come on Kento how on earth would something that extreme be real?” Cye set his plate down and handed Kento his. Cye sat down and looked at Kento seriously. “You did point out something that was true like strange things are happening but that one is too extreme.”

“Yeah but incase you forgot Cye everything that happened to us was extreme. Especially when it concerns armor and besides Rowen said someone saved him.” Kento argued.

“We both know Rowen can take care of himself. He's not someone to get caught easily. That story makes no sense.” Cye said as he started eating. “I think Ryo's right he must have hit his head when he swerved his car.”

“But that's the thing Cye. Nobody was in the road for Rowen to have swerved in the first place.” Kento pointed out.

“What?” Cye looked confused.

“Rowen said he swerved his car to miss a person in the road. When he looked to see if the person was okay. They were gone. So tell me how a person you almost hit can disappear off a road when you have a cliff on one side and a mountain on the other? There was no body at the bottom of the cliff and there was nobody running up the mountain. So where did that person go?” Kento said calmly and started eating his breakfast.

“Okay that's one I can't answer. Unless Rowen was imagining that too.” Cye said calmly.

“You know what I think. Let's say that Rowen is right and this did happen to him. I have one easy explanation for everything. Dais.” Kento said calmly.

“But why would Dais do that?” Cye asked.

“I don't know but it is a possibility.” Kento finished up his breakfast and stretched.

“You honestly think another fights coming don't you?” Cye folded his arms.

“I don't think I know so. You want prove its right in your pocket. Three of us have found our armors after two years. And we remember what happened the last time our armors mysteriously appeared. I think we should be ready. Ready for another war…”

Ryo walked out onto his front porch and sat down next to Rowen on the stairs. Mia and Yuli were in the driveway-playing ball while White Blaze had finally escaped his prison and was running around trying to steal the ball. Rowen was watching them with a frown on his face. Ryo sighed and Rowen finally looked over at him.

 

“You okay?” Ryo whispered almost to himself as he glanced over at Mia and Yuli.

“Yeah.” Rowen said calmly.

“You don't seem okay.” Ryo looked over at him.

“I just don't think I was seeing things.” Rowen said. “I almost wish I knew who that guy was that saved me. You really don't believe me?”

“I didn't say I didn't believe you it just seems a little odd.” Ryo said quietly. “Kento thinks you telling the truth. In fact he wanted to kill me for having doubts.”

“If Sage was here I wonder what he would say.” Rowen stared at the ground. He hadn't told Ryo what Cale had said. In fact he felt like he couldn't talk to Ryo.

“Is this about Sage or about what happened?” Ryo asked.

“What?” Rowen looked at him like he was silly. “What are you talking about?”

“You've had Sage on your mind all day. What's going on?” Ryo looked him in the eyes.

“It's just…” Rowen expression changed.

“Rowen?” Ryo turned to face him.

“Cale said something that disturbed me. And I don't know if it's true.” Rowen said in a pained voice. “He said that he killed Sage.”

“Sage isn't dead.” Ryo said calmly.

“Then why has he been gone for two years and not spoken to us?” Rowen looked at him. He was starting to get mad.

“I don't know but I know for a fact he's not dead.” Ryo said solemnly.

“I can't believe you. We have no evidence of him being alive.” Rowen raised his voice.

“Rowen is it or it not true that the five of us our connected with or without our armors?” Ryo glared and looked at him. “Is it?”

“Were connected but what does…” Rowen was cut off as Ryo abruptly stood up.

“Then is it true if he was dead we would have felt it? I don't know what the hell Sage's problem has been for the past two years. All I know is there was no excuse for him abandoning us let alone you.” The two were silent after that. “I'm sorry… I shouldn't have said that.” Ryo walked back into the house. Rowen stared back at Mia and Yuli. Ryo was upset at Sage. And the more he thought about it. So was he. But what happened?

 

“Mia! Yuli!” A voice boomed. Rowen's head shot up. He recognized that voice.

“Kento!” Yuli ran over and gave him a big hug.

“Kento!” Mia smiled and ran over. White Blaze looked over and growled like an intruder had just trespassed on his turf. He eyed Kento for a few minutes then suddenly charged at him.

“Whoa!” Kento shouted as the big cat jumped him. “Hey! White Blaze don't you… EW!!” Kento squirmed as the big white tiger licked him on the face. “Okay! Hi. Now get off me!”

“Kento we missed you!” Yuli smiled happily.

“Yeah. Hey you've gotten bigger.” Kento pushed himself up off the ground and dusted himself off. White Blaze growled again and then charged around the corner.

“White Blaze!” Mia yelled and ran after the tiger. When she reached the corner she laughed.

“What is it?” Yuli shouted.

“Oh Cye probably got jumped.” Kento smiled brightly.

“Cye's here too?” Yuli ran down the path just as Cye came around the corner laughing. Cye smiled at Mia and was talking with her and petting White Blaze as Yuli ran up. “Cye!”

“Hey Yuli!” Cye waved. Kento was still standing where he had been left and smiled.

“Kento…” Kento looked over to see Rowen standing a few feet away with a smile on his face.

“Ro!” Kento ran over and gave him a hug. “I missed you so much. What's been up with you?”

“A lot buddy. A lot.” Rowen smiled. Mia, Yuli, and Cye came walking up a few minutes later.

“Hi Rowen!” Cye waved. Rowen smiled back.

“Hey!” Rowen gave him a quick hug.

“Man I miss this.” Kento said with a big smile. “Where's Ryo?”

“He must be in the house. I'll go get him.” Mia ran off into the house.

“Kento did you get your armor?” Rowen asked calmly.

“Nah. I haven't looked yet.” Kento said. “Didn't have time. I heard you found yours.”

“Yeah I did after I almost got killed.” Rowen folded his arms.

“Heard about that one too.” Kento said calmly.

“Yeah Rowen thinks the warlords are trying to kill us again. Silly.” Yuli said while putting his arms behind his head.

“Look I told you guys what happened.” Rowen glared.

“Hey don't worry man I believe you.” Kento said with a smile. “Besides our armors are back so something must be going on.”

“At least someone agrees with me.” Rowen said sounding almost relieved.

“What happened to your neck?” Cye pulled down Rowen collar to see a little bruise going along the line of his neck.

“That was caused by the chain that went around my neck yesterday when I almost got killed.” Rowen said with a glare.

“Then it is true.” Cye looked at the ground.

“I told you he wasn't imagining things.” Kento looked disappointed in Cye for a minute.

“Ryo still doesn't believe me.” Rowen said looking at the ground.

“Hey. I told you it's not that I don't believe you I just have doubts.” Ryo walked up with Mia.

“Hey bro!” Kento slapped Ryo on the shoulder a bit.

“What's up Kento? Hey Cye.” Ryo smiled at both of them.

“This is still wrong.” Kento frowned.

“What is?” Rowen looked at him.

“Nothing.” Kento shook his head and smiled sadly. “Well let's go inside and have some fun.” Cye and Ryo shrugged at each other and followed. But Rowen knew exactly what Kento was talking about. But he thought better of mentioning it around Ryo. Rowen stared out at the lake for a moment before he sighed and followed them back into the house.
