Chapter 2: A Girl Named Mika

"Well here we are," Kenshin said to the girl who was still unconscious, "Now let's get you inside and to bed. Miss Megumi should be here soon and she will fix you up that she will," he said with a smile as he was making her bed, "There now all done" he said as he laid her in the bed, "Don't worry Miss Megumi is a very skilled doctor she will take very good care of you."

"Kenshin! Kenshin where are you?" he could hear Yahiko calling for him.

"I'm in hear Yahiko," he called back.

"We found Megumi she and Kaoru are right outside I got here first because they ran back to Megumi's place to get some medicine for the girl."

"Ok, I made her a bed that I did."

"Wow when you look at her she only looks like she is about five years old and she's pretty messed up isn't she."

"Yes she is indeed, but I have faith that Miss Megumi can help her," Kenshin said.

"I hope she can," Yahiko replied. "Hey where's Sanosuke?" Yahiko asked.

"I dunno he's probably around here somewhere," Kenshin said staring at the girl.

"Do you want me to find him and tell him about the girl?"

"Yes, that would be a good idea you know how Sano can be when we don't tell him things like this," he said with a little chuckle.

"Ok I'll be right back," Yahiko said running to find Sano.

"Kenshin!"

"Sir Ken!" he could hear Kaoru and Megumi coming.

"Sir Ken where is the girl?" Megumi asked as she and Kaoru hurried in.

"Over there," he said pointing to the little body under the blanket.

"Oh my it's worse than I thought, we should get started right away. Miss Kaoru can you boil me some water? And Sir Ken please get me some bandages from my medicine box?"

"Yes."

"Sure," they replied hurrying to do what she asked.

"How is she Miss Megumi?" Kenshin asked a few hours later.

"She will be alright but she won't be out of bed for awhile."

"You did a very good job Miss Megumi, thank you for helping her," Kenshin said with a smile.

"What the heck is going on here?" Sano said as he walked in seeing all the bloody towels.

"Didn't Yahiko tell you? I sent him to find you and tell you the news," Kenshin replied.

"Yeah he told me but I didn't think it was this bad."

"Hey" Kaoru said, "Where's Yahiko?"

"I think he said he was going back to into town to see if he could find out anything about the girl."

"Oh I see," Kaoru replied.

"That is a good idea," Megumi said, "He might even find out what her name is."

"What?" Sano said his eyes became big as he saw the girl in the bed still fast asleep.

"What's wrong Sano Yahiko told you about the girl didn't he?" Kenshin asked see how shocked Sano was.

"No it can't be how could he have done this?" Sano said walking slowly to where the little girl lay.

"What's wrong Sano? What is it?" Kenshin asked beginning to stand up thinking something was wrong with him.

"How could he? He said he wouldn't do it again, he promised me he wouldn't," Sano said angrily.

"What Sanosuke do you know this girl?" Megumi asked.

"Yeah I do," he replied by the sound of his voice you could tell he was furious.

"What you know her?" Kaoru asked.

"Yes her name is Mika and her father, his name is Raidon he fought in the Revolution ten years ago, he is a very powerful manslayer. They live in the neighborhood I watch over. I caught him training or at least he calls it training more like beating her, so I told him to stop and I was going to the police to tell them. He promised he wouldn't do it anymore if I didn't tell. I remember how hard it was for me when my father died and I didn't want her to have the same feeling I had."

"So you let him keep her," Megumi asked a little bit angry.

"Wait," Kaoru said, "When we talked to him in the village he said his name was Zango and in Sano's story he said his name is Raidon."

"He must have changed it after the war was over," Kenshin replied.

"Who cares what his name is he beat this poor child and Sano just let him keep her?" Megumi said angrily.

"Well sorry," Sano replied now getting angry also.

"Hey Sano don't worry it isn't your fault you didn't know he would continue to beat her and we have her now so all is good," Kaoru aid trying to calm Sano down.

"Huh… umm… umm… hmm…" Mika made a little noise.

"I think she's waking up," Megumi said as they all looked at Mika.

"Where am I?" the little girl asked quietly as her slowly sat up and looked around, "Where is my father!"

"He is still in town that he is," Kenshin replied in a cheerful voice trying to make the girl understand they weren't going to hurt her.

"What you must take me back to him!" she yelled trying to stand up.

"Huh but why?" Kaoru asked, "Why do you want to go back to him after the way he treated you?"

"I don't want to," she said her head down with her hair covering her eyes. "I don't want to but I have to."

"No you don't you can stay here with us we will take care of you," Megumi said.

"But I don't want to be a bother to any of you," Mika replied.

"You certainly not a bother," Kenshin told her.

"Thank you for your kindness but if I don't go back go to him he will find me and hurt you and maybe worse he could kill you, so you see I must go back," Mika said still trying to stand but she was still very weak.

"But you can't go back," Sano said, "You can barely stand up."

"I remember you your Sanosuke that fighter for hire that said you where going to tell the police on me," she said staring at Sano.

"I wasn't going to tell on you I was going to tell on your father," Sano replied.

"He said you were going to tell on me he said it was my fault I got him in trouble and you were telling on me and they were going to come and get me and lock me up and not feed me or give me water they where just going to make me work till I died because I was bad," she said.

"No you didn't do anything wrong you aren't bad at all it is your father and I wasn't telling on you and besides if you did get in trouble they wouldn't do that to you yes they would lock you up but they wouldn't do what he told you they would," Sano said.

"Thank you for trying to help me but it's better that you didn't he would just make trouble for everyone," she said grabbing onto anything she could to hold herself up as she tried to make her way out of the dojo.

"But can't go in that condition," Megumi said, "You can't stand up you'll die on the way there your not strong enough."

"I don't care," Mika said, "I'll crawl if I have to."

"What are you so determined to go back to that evil man?" Kaoru asked so mad at what Zango or Raidon whatever his name was, she didn't really care she just wanted to beat him so he could see what it felt like.

"Because," she said and dropped down and began to sob, "Because I can't stand it, I just can't stand it anymore," she said as Kenshin kneeled done next to her and hugged her to try and stop her from crying.

"What can't stand what?" Megumi asked.

"I can't stand the people and their families after he is done with them," she cried into Kenshin's chest.

"What? What do you mean?" Sano asked.

"Those people, I feel really bad for them they are beating by father and sometimes killed just because I ran away, he uses them to get me to come back and when I do they all hate me throw stones, sticks, whatever they can find and say it is my fault, that I made him do it because I ran away like a little baby," she said now sobbing more than ever sobbing so hard it made her chest ache from in-haling and ex-haling so much.

"No," Megumi said, "You didn't run away like a baby you ran away like any five year old would."

"I think understand now that I do" Kenshin said, "You don't want to go back to Raidon but he is forcing you with to other people's lives isn't he," Kenshin said looking down at her.

"She is asleep again," Kaoru said.

"Yes she is still very weak," Megumi said, "I guess all this tired her out, the poor girl."

"Hey Kenshin, Sanosuke, Megumi, Kaoru!" Yahiko called.

"What's the problem?" Sano asked walking outside to where Yahiko was standing.

"What's the matter Yahiko?" Kenshin asked as he put Mika back in her bed and went outside.

"Remember that guy Zango, he is using his sword to break things and yelling threats about that girl. He said if she isn't back by morning he would start killing people."

"Well his name isn't really Zango it's Raidon," Sano said.

"So Mika was telling the truth," Kaoru said, "He really does use people to get her to come back."

"What a horrible person," Megumi said coming out of the dojo.

"Well we can't let him kill people that we cannot," Kenshin said, "We will stop him ourselves."

"But what about Mika what will she do?" Kaoru asked.

"Miss Megumi, Miss Kaoru will you please stay with Mika, Sano and I will take care of this," Kenshin said.

"What about me?" Yahiko asked

"You will stay also," Kenshin replied as he looked at Yahiko.

"Will we leave in the morning?" Sano asked.

"Yes we will," Kenshin replied, "Now lets get some sleep I believe we will need it that we will," he said and looked at the room Mika was in.

"Goodnight everyone," they said to each other and went to their rooms, Megumi went back to Mika's room so she could tend to her wounds if they began bleeding again.
