Rurouni Kenshin Fan Fiction ❯ Eternity ❯ Serenade for the Moon ( Chapter 3 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Hoy! Another chapter of my hideous story for you all to enjoy. MWHAHAHAHA!!! I'm such a horrible writer. I have great ideas, but when I put them onto paper…Anyways, as long as people read it, I'm good. So please, tell me if there is anything I need to improve. I won't hate you. I'll love you even more. ::eye twitches::

Disclaimer: I wish, I wish, I wish that Kenshin's beautiful red locks belonged to me. Also his body, oh and Sanosuke! ::grin:: Sadly they don't…::shifty eyes:: for now, at least. MWHAHAHAHA!!!

Also, in this chapter I have added the song that inspired this story, Eternity by Dreams Come True. I do not own it, but it is a beautiful song.

Eternity Chapter Three: Serenade for the Moon

Kenshin grabbed a small kitchen knife, just in case it was some lunatic. I mean really, who in there right minds would be singing in the middle of the night, unless it was a secret admirer coming to sing him a serenade. Kenshin chuckled at this. Who would sing to him? He wasn't much friends with any girl except Megumi, and she just went home with Sano.

He slid out the door and crept out, silent as a mouse. All those sword lessons really had paid off. He could begin to make out the words of the song. Also he could see a figure by the shrine.

I knew that we belonged together
Long before I knew your name
And the only thing I longed for
Was a sign to prove you felt the same

Kenshin began to quicken his pace. This voice was certainly enchanting. It seemed to wrap around him like silk, making him feel cool and tingly. That or it could just be him running around outside, at night, with only thin pajama pants and a black bathroom robe on. Whatever the reason, it felt weird.

Somehow I knew your every secret
Just by looking in your eyes
From the very moment I met you
I was thinking of the rest of our lives

The song grew louder. `It seems our little intruder hasn't noticed our presents yet' he thought. The grip on his knife tightened. `Never be too careful though.'

As he got closer, he began to recognized her figure a bit more. It was a young woman. The moon was exceptionally bright tonight, so he could see her clothes. She had on a plain light pink kimono with red sakura petals. She also had on a blue and white striped obi wrapped around her waste and tied into a large bow in the back. Her long ravine hair that reached her waist was tied up in blue ribbon.

Just say to me

I'm gonna love you 'til the end of the time
Somehow two hearts have made a friend of time
Eternity, eternity is on our side

She looked…sad. No not the right word to describe her face. Almost like she was empty, alone.

Kenshin was now only 10 feet from her. And yet, she continued to sing with her lovely voice.

I'm not afraid to say forever
You have made me feel so sure
'Cause I know it's everlasting
And I've never had this feeling before

Keep telling me

I'm gonna love you 'til the end of time
Somehow two hearts have made a friend of time
Eternity, I'll love you for eternity

Kenshin finally snapped out of his faze. Something about her voice, that song. It seemed so…familiar.

"Excuse me miss, but may I ask what you are doing here?" he asked, still trying to keep his manners. She was still a lady, even if she were to be a psycho or something.

She yelped and jumped about 3 feet in the air. When she regained her composer she slowly turned around to see who had said that.

She took a quick look at Kenshin and then around the area. "M-Me? Are you speaking to me?" she asked putting a hand to her chest.

"Well there is nothing else around here that would have such a pretty voice."

She stood up very slowly, her hand still glued to her chest, gripping her kimono. Next, she walk a little towards Kenshin. Kenshin thought for a minute that she was going to attack him. Maybe she really was a lunatic. He held the knife, ready to strike in self-defense if needed.

"You can really see me?"

"Yes and I can hear you quite well too" he smiled.

The mysterious girl quickly turned her back to him. He swore she looked as though to cry. What she did next surprised him. She turned back again to face him and she was smiling while small streams of water made her way down her face. She was crying, but she was happy?

"Y-Yes that w-was me. I'm so sorry to awaken you. I usually come here to gaze at the night sky. I-I didn't know anyone lived around here anymore" she bowed.

Kenshin shook away his thoughts of the girl. It was expected to think no one lived in the old house. What surprised him that other people live close by. The agent told him the nearest town was miles away, and that no one was living out here. Damn agents…

"Oh! Well, it no problem. So you live around here?"

"I guess you could say that."

"May I sit with you?" he asked hiding the knife in his sleeve.

The girl nodded. Kenshin than walked over to her right side and sat down. A few seconds later she sat back down.

"May I ask why you are singing at 3 A.M.?"

"Because, I just wanted too. Got a problem with my habits?" she asked glaring at the man covered by the moon' shadow so she couldn't see him very clearly.

"No! Nothing strange about that" he said quickly.

It was silent for a second, except the light breeze blowing the grass around.

"It was a beautiful song, and you have a beautiful voice. What was it's title?" asked Kenshin.

"It's called Eternity."

"Would you sing the rest?"

The girl looked at him strangely and began to blush. "I-I'm not that good of singer…" she was cut off.

"Nonsense, I heard you. It sounded pretty good to me. Also, I would like to hear the rest of the song if you do not mind."

She blushed deeper and turned away. "If you really want…" he heard her mumble.

"Also if you wouldn't mind starting from the beginning, that is if your not tired" he smiled. That song was greatly inspiring him with some ideas for his Manga. He knew it would come eventually.

I knew that we belonged together
Long before I knew your name
And the only thing I longed for
Was a sign to prove you felt the same

Somehow I knew your every secret
Just by looking in your eyes
From the very moment I met you

And I've never had this feeling before

Keep telling me

I'm gonna love you 'til the end of time

Eternity, I'll love you for eternity

Caught in the tide
And it brought me to you
Under a spell
And now I know that dreams come true

I'm gonna love you 'til the end of time
Somehow two hearts have made a friend of time
Eternity, eternity, is on our side

I'm gonna love you 'til the end of time
Somehow two hearts have made a friend of time
Eternity, eternity, is on our side (is on our side)

I'm gonna love 'til the end of time ('til the end of time)
Somehow two hearts have made a friend of time

She finished and turned away, very embarrassed. No one had heard her sing since… She heard him clapping and turned around. "That was very good. What a way to wake up."

"I'm sorry for waking you."

"It wasn't you…it was something else. Anyways, do you come here every night?" he asked, changing the subject.

"I usually do, but I won't if I disturb you."

"No. It will be nice to talk to someone. You should really come during the day, though."

"I-I can't. There's a reason why, I just don't want to say. But that's okay. I love the night, especially how the big bright moon looks with the dark sky."

"Oh, really."

"Do…you live in that house?" she asked pointing down to the giant old house.

"Yes. I really don't need such huge space, but it was a great deal, and the land is so beautiful out here. It's nice to get away from the city."

"You know it's supposed to be haunted."

"I don't believe in ghosts, curses, or super natural beings."

"It's true, there's even a story with it. I would tell you it, but I won't now. You have to believe first" she said smiling.

Kenshin smiled back. This girl was interesting. "Really, then tell me. Why do you think they exist?"

"I think the spirits of people stay behind, not for revenge or hate, but for love. They may be waiting for there love to return or to be found."

"Good idea, but still won't work."

The girl smiled and turned back to the stars. They both sat there in silence, just watching the moon move across the sky. The girl hadn't felt so relaxed for a while. Then she noticed that the night was slowly turning to day. How long had she been here?!

"I must go" she said beginning to stand.

"You'll come again?" asked Kenshin, his face covered by his red bangs. "I enjoyed talking to you, even if it was at 3 in the morning."

The sun was now beginning to peak out from over the mountains. She was growing anxious. "Yes, I will come again." She began to walk off but turned back, knowing the risks. "Oh, I never introduced myself. My name is Kamiya Kaoru. It was so nice to meet you."

He stood slowly and turned so his face to meet hers. Her eyes grew and she about gasped out load. His face! It was so…that was the scar…

"It's Himura Kenshin. I hope we do meet again soon, Kaoru-dono" he smiled and turned to walk back to his house.

Kaoru began to reach towards Kenshin, but a ray of sun was coming up. She quickly snapped out of her trance and ran towards the nearest tree. Kenshin shook his head. She was sure strange, but meeting this Kaoru-dono had given him the inspiration he'd needed. He then walked back to his old home.

Kaoru tried desperately to slow down her breath. She had almost turned completely see-threw in front of him. She looked over to see him enter and close the door the door behind him. She sank down to her knees, not caring the wet dew was soaking threw her kimono. She was supposed to be dead, right?

"W-Who…C-Could it be?!" she asked out load. "It must be! The beautiful red hair, the charming violet eyes, the dense personality, the X scar."

She felt her tears coming down her smiling cheeks. She jumped up towards the sky and began to twirl around, like a child in a candy shop. `It IS him, it must! After all this time, he has finally come back to me, just as he promised! We can finally be together!' she thought. She picked a dandy-lion on the ground and sniffed it. Life was sweet!

Kenshin finally got up after the phone had rung about eight times. He had been up all the rest of the morning writing down his plans and sketching a few characters and settings. He had only gotten about two or three hours of sleep, until the damn phone kept him from his precious sleep.

"What the hell is it you need!" he yelled as he picked up the phone.

"Well good morning to you too sunshine" Sanosuke said sarcastically. "God, what happened to you? Did a ghost scare you, or is it your toilets don't work? It's not like you to sleep late."

"I can sleep in if I want. And you should know not to call so early."

"First, you never sleep in unless you have a hangover; second, it's not early. Its 1 P.M. carrot top or does your clocks not work?"

1 P.M. was he really up that long. No wonder he was not acting right.

"Sorry Sano, I was up all night, doing things for my story."

"Now that's the push-over Kenshin I know." Kenshin could just see Sano smiling at his lame joke over the phone. "Anyways, I forgot I get off early today and I thought I'd come by, to help you some more."

"That would be great. Also when you get here, I'll tell you something that happened last night."

"Oh ho! So our Kenshin had a big night, eh? No wonder you're so cranky. And I thought you were turning into my grandmother."

"Yes, laugh it up. Now let me go back to sleep or I'll have to tell Megumi what happened to her make-up last month."

"I was drunk! So were you, so how do you know you didn't have some on too?"

"Because I wasn't nearly as bad as you. I could still use a camera, and believe me…I did."

"You're an evil man Kenshin. Pure evil."

"Yes I am. Now go away!" he yelled.

"Fine. I'll be around there by 4-5 o'clock. So have a nice sleep."

"I would if you stopped talking."

After a minute Kenshin heard nothing. Sano must have hung up. Doesn't anyone say good-bye anymore?

He then immediately turned and ran back to his beloved bed. He wrapped his blanket around him and snuggled into his feather pillow.

"So you a normal person again?" asked Sano holding some fast food on his hand.

"Much better, thank-you" he answered when Sano handed him a beef bowl and some throw-away chop sticks.

"So tell me about your eventful night. Did you find a spider?"

Kenshin glared. "That was in the fifth grade and it surprised me, it come out of my pencil box. I'm not afraid of spiders."

"Right…anyways tell me" said Sanosuke while shoving some rice into his mouth.

"Okay, when I went to bed I had that dream again" Kenshin started.

"The one with you holding the sword and the ribbon?" asked Sano. Kenshin had told him this dream before.

"Yeah. Anyways, I went to the kitchen to get some water and I heard singing. I took a knife and went to see what lunatic would sign at in 3 and not to mention in my yard…

Kenshin told the rest of his story, with Sano listening to every word while chewing on the fish bone left over from his bowl. When finished Sanosuke spoke up.

"That's weird. So she hangs around here at night? That means she is either a gangster or a ghost. Choose your pick."

"Kaoru-dono is none of those. I'm guessing that she comes from one of those villages that live in the same time period. You know, live in the past, and think the future is evil."

"So you talked with her? And she sang for you. My my Kenshin, you may have found yourself a lady."

Kenshin just looked at him and then back to his cold rice bowl.

"So anyways, do you have plans tonight? I was just going to work on my plot and other stuff. I may start getting this thing going soon. Also, maybe she'll come again. You can see she is no gangster or ghost."

"I don't think I had anything planned so…though it feels like I forgot something…"

Right on cue the phone began to ring. Kenshin put down his bowl and walked over to it. Sano was still thinking of what he forgot. He looked up when he heard yelling on the phone. Kenshin held the phone away from his face.

"It's for you" he held out the phone to Sano who cautiously took it into his hands. He didn't even say hello before the woman began yelling more.

"Where the hell are you Rooster head!" screamed Megumi.

"I'm at Kenshin's house. I got off early and came here to help some…" he was cut off.

"No shit Sherlock! I mean when where you suppose to be here and pick me up!"

It then hit Sano harder than Megumi's bag of books. Her car had an oil leek from coming home last night and had to take it to the shop. While it was in there, he had promise to pick her up from class.

"You are such an ass hole! I've been here for hours!" she continued to scream. "I should cut off your head and use your body to study! When I find you, you will be begging to die!"

Sanosuke quietly hung up the phone while she was still yelling and ran to the front door.

"I'll guess I'll have to meet your mystery lady another day. I'll come by this Friday…that is if I'm still alive."

Kenshin began to laugh as he watched Sano zoom away from his house. With those two around, who needed any comedian?

Happy Thanksgiving to all and to all a good dinner! I thought this would be my gift for you all. And this year, I get to eat food! Last Thanksgiving I had my braces change…you know the drill.

Don't you just love that song, Eternity?! If you've never heard it, rent the Swan Princess (no, you do not have to watch it) and after the credits is its music video. What's funny is I just learned recently that they are Japanese and that is one of there few English songs. Hee hee. They are called Dreams Come True, just if you wanted to know.

Well I've got to go to bed. I'm leaving in the morning to go to my grandma's for Thanksgiving. (Yum yum food). My thanks to you has been this chapter, now I want my thanks. This isn't charity people! I want reviews dammit! I want…as many pieces of pumpkin pie I will eat. Whatever that will be.

Happy Thanksgiving!
