Kenshin stared into the darkness; the faint shadow of a sure-fire swordsman was laid out right in front of him.
“Battosai, prepare to die, and your wench, I'll take good care of her.” The man's features twisted into a sickening grin. He pulled out his sword, and immediately moved his body into an offensive stance.
“Hijen Matsaru, its been a long time, has it not?” Battosai said, his voice icy, his eyes like slits and were almost glowing yellow with his burning hatred for this unworldly demon-of-a-man. Kaoru was taken aback by the sheer loathing in Kenshin's voice. She had heard the stories of this bloodthirsty killer, but she never had thought to witness them first hand. She didn't even believe that this guy WAS in fact, the true Battousai.
“It is good to know I still leave an impression, Kenshin Himura.”
“You have to no right to act so formal.”
“I suppose not, then we shall just get started then, should we not, Battosai?”
Kenshin didn't waste any time, he lunged forward, pulling the sakabatou out of its sheath, and with a metallic arch of metal, the tie of Matsaru's hair tie came falling to the ground merely a thin strap of leather.
“I see your reflexes are still as sharp as ever, but not good enough.” Kenshin calmly stated, the hatred not yet relieved. He lunged again, not missing his target, his sword sliced through flesh, barely missing muscle. Kenshin hit the ground with out a sound, a look of victory bleed into his gaze, his Amber eyes shining out of pure blood lust.
“Nice aim, Battosai, but your moves are failing, is it that you are fearing for your woman's well fare? I should hope that she is not distracting you, or I will have to eliminate her presence.”
“You touch her and die!” Himura screamed, and he launched himself into the air, bringing the sakabatou down, cutting the vein that sustained life.
“Nice sh-s-shot.” Hijen whispered, a surprised look mixed with fear and relaxation.
Kenshin looked at Kaoru, who was staring wide eyed at the still bleeding corpse by his feet. She wouldn't make eye contact with him.
“Kaoru?”
“K-k-kenshin, y- you k-killed h-h-h-im?” She whispered, her words broken by the sobs that wracked her small frame.
“Kaoru, he was threatening you, I-I had to.” Kenshin Himura whispered back, not really believing he just killed a man in front of her. BAKA!! She looked at him, then at her feet.
“No one deserves that, no one.” With that said she collapsed to her knees, and began sobbing. Kenshin lifted her into his arms, and walked the remaining distance to the dojo, as he sang a soft tune he had known all his life.
Near the end of the song, Kaoru sobs turned into sniffles, and she finally stopped. She gazed up into his eyes, seeing the pain and the remorse for his actions.
“Kenshin, I am sorry for” he cut her off in mid sentence.
“It was my fault, I should have thought.”
With that, they settled into a comfortable silence, Kenshin still carried her. She rested her head on his chest. His eyes, they were so, cold, so, hating.
