"Are you leaving? Doko ikimasu ka?" Kaoru stared at the trio of men standing at the gates of the dojo. Kenshin smiled at the anxious woman and replied, "We are going to get something for dinner. Would you mind if we invited Megumi dono to dinner?"
was getting restless. "Sure she can Kenshin, I don't mind at all" Kaoru said through gritted teeth. "Come on Kenshin, can we go now?" Yahiko was tugging at the sleeves of Kenshin's gi.

"Yahiko-chan, can't you see that they're having an intimate moment?" Sano was grinning from ear to ear. Yahiko chuckled at the comment then his face contorted into one of anger. "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU NOT TO CALL ME CHAN, ROOSTER HEAD!!!"
was panting as he finished spurting the tiring sentence out. Sano had completely ignored the small boy and was already on his way to the town. Yahiko ran after him in a huff. Kenshin simply laughed then followed the two will bidding Kaoru farewell.
shut the gates then went to a quiet spot behind the dojo. There was a large tree that she was very fond of. She had always looked for comfort beneath its branches during her childhood. She collapsed against its trunk and blankly stared up at the sky.
surroundings were deathly silent. Kaoru frowned as she remembered how much she hated being alone. She brought her knees close to her chest and nestled her head into her legs. She stayed there for a few moments, reminiscing on times passed. She then decided to make her time useful and walked into the dojo were she grabbed her shinai and began preparing for practice.
the time Kaoru was finished, she was sweating profusely and set herself on getting clean. After all, no one would want to smell her during dinner and it would only fuel Megumi on her constant ranting about how manly she was. With that in mind, Kaoru went to her room and got a fresh change of clothes and her bath supplies.
Kenshin, Sanosuke, and Yahiko had finished with their shopping and went over to the Clinic to get Megumi. They found loud sounds coming with in and a drunken patient causing quite a ruckus. Megumi obviously had her hands full and it was Sano who opted the group to help her out. Kenshin sighed inwardly.
Kaoru, we are going to be a little late.
had finished her bath and was beginning to get dressed when she heard the front gate open and close. Relieved that she was no longer alone, she quickened her pace. She walked into the house to find not the people she was expecting, but a group of thugs who were ransacking the house.
she hadn't been noticed by the group of men. She quietly snuck to the dojo where she grabbed her bokken then rushed back to the house. There they were, four large men standing in the kitchen. The had cocky grins plastered on their faces and were searching through the kitchen for food. Kaoru smirked realizing that their search was futile. She realized that she wouldn't stand a chance facing all four at once, and decided to lure them out one at a time.
sure that she was properly concealed behind a wall, she made a small noise, loud enough for the goon closest to her to hear. He perked up and began walking out of the room towards Kaoru. The three others were oblivious as to what their friend was doing and continued their own business. Kaoru let the man walk several steps in front of her before attacking.
man had only a few seconds to react to Kaoru because she made no forewarning battle cry. He grasped the hilt of the katana that was slung at his side. Unable to unsheathed it in time, he brought the whole thing up to defend himself against the woman in front of him. He was surprised at the strength her hit had and was caught off guard as Kaoru kicked his legs out from under him.
was sprawled on the ground as Kaoru dashed to the man while bringing her bokken up for another ferocious attack. The man thrust the end of his sheath into Kaoru's side, unfortunately for him, it didn't prevent the massive blow to the head he received from Kaoru. Slightly stunned, Kaoru clutched at her side and took a minute to breath. One down, three to go. She took a deep breath then returned to the house to find another unsuspecting victim. The men were still in the kitchen.
decided to use the same technique to get the next man out. Just as his predecessor, the next man fell for the same trick. Kaoru waited for him to come into sight before rushing him. This man was quicker than the last. He brought his unsheathed katana up in front of him. Kaoru had to change her stance quickly in order to avoid having her only weapon cut in half. The man swung, aiming to slice Kaoru's stomach. Kaoru jumped to the right and promptly smacked her wooden sword into the man's back, than lept a couple steps backwards. The man turned to face his attacker, anger burning in his eyes.
stared down at the woman with contempt, then began to grin. Kaoru narrowed her eyes in the slightest then charged the man again. She sprung beneath another swipe of his katana and rolled to her feet. She brought the bokken up with incredible speed and made contact with the bottom of the man's chin, sending him flying across the ground. He skidded to a halt just short of the remaining two companion's feet. Kaoru immediately fell into a defensive stance as she prepared to take on the last two men at once.
man to her right was huge. He didn't seem to care much about the recent turn of events. The man to her left just stared at her unbelievingly. "You bitch! You'll pay for what you did to our comrades!" The man to her left also wielded a katana. He was now running towards Kaoru screaming at the top of his lungs. "Die!!!!"
side stepped the attack and swiftly hit the side of the katana. The sword fell to the side as Kaoru thrust her elbow into the mans stomach. The man gasped for air. The second man, who had remained neutral until this point, was now behind Kaoru. He hit the back of Kaoru's head as hard as he could, as he gave a soft chuckle. He was amused that such a petite woman could take down his buddies so effortlessly.
wouldn't go down so easily. Kaoru whipped around and glared at the man. He brought a concealed word in front of him as he prepared to strike. Kaoru was glad that this man didn't have a katana, which meant she could hit the mans weapon without worrying about decimating her own. She was the first to move, running full speed at the man with her sword brought to her side. The man lifted his weapon high above his head and just before Kaoru hit his abdomen, hi swiftly brought the weapon down to meet Kaoru's bokken.
stood in a power struggle with the man for a moment, each pushing their own weapon against the other's, neither wanting to give in. the man swept his leg at Kaoru but she quickly evaded the kick. She jumped to the man's side and smacked hr bokken into the man's shoulder. The man grabbed her sword and slowly turned around. His eyes were wild with excitement. It was like chasing a wild animal to him. Kaoru released the handle of her bokken and stepped back. She looked horrified as the other men were now climbing to their feet.
was weaponless and outnumbered, but she wouldn't go down with out a fight. All four rushed her at once. Kaoru fought back as much as she could, but it was no use. With all four she was easily overpowered. She stared at the leader of the pack as two of the others tightly held her arms. She grabbed the shoulders of her captors and swiftly kicked the side of the leader's head with her foot. The man's head turned to the side as the two holding Kaoru regained control. The leader smiled then brought his weapon above his head. He smiled a wicked grin before bringing the weapon down on Kaoru's head.
woman went limp, blood trickling down her forehead. The men were debating what to do with her when they heard a group of people walk trough the front gate. They left Kaoru lying on the ground and took off. Sano and Yahiko were discussing which one of them was more of a help to Megumi when Kenshin froze dead in his tracks. Megumi promptly ran into Kenshin with a slight thud. "What are you.." She froze mid sentence as she cast a glance at what Kenshin was looking at. She froze in horror as she saw Kaoru lying on the ground.
