Rurouni Kenshin Fan Fiction ❯ Sei Shi ❯ Chapter two ( Chapter 2 )

Kaoru and Misao walked into headquarters unaware of the strange stares they were getting. They stopped in front of his door ready to knock when it opened and he was staring right at them.

His golden gaze going from Kaoru to Misao then stopping on the wolf between them, stepping a side he let them pass and went back into his office.

"Well?" he asked as he reached for a cigarette

"We think this is something you should hear." Said Misao

"We found her coming back from… dinner." Kaoru said glancing down at Midori

Saitou took a drag of his cigarette before turning his cold gaze on the wolf. He was surprised to see it was pure white, for those were rare, even more when he heard Kaoru say it was a female, for those were very rare. He waited for the wolf to transform but when it just stood there staring at him he raised an eyebrow questioningly.

/I need to find the one called Loki/

"And why would you want him?" he asked taking another drag

/Because someone is attempting to resurrect the two demon gods/

"Is that so?" he said putting his cigarette out and standing up

/He is the only one besides the Battousai who can stop them/

"Then why not get him."

He watched the wolf's eyes flash in anger a low growl coming from her throat. She bent her head down like she was challenging him. He smirked at her causing her to snarl at him.

/Fool! If I knew where they were do you think I would be here asking a _human _ for help! /

Misao and Kaoru were not sure what she was saying but whatever it was didn't sound too good for she was snarling and growling at him.

"Why should we help you? I have enough problems to worry about with out having to try and locate these two for you."

He was leaning against the front of his desk pulling out another cigarette and lighting it.

/Do you understand what would happen if the two were brought back? Do you know how many lives would be lost! Is it not your duty to stop that from happening! /

"Now why should I believe a word you say when you won't even show me who you are?"

Kaoru and Misao gasped slightly and were about to answer and defend her when they watched her snarl and lunge at him. She knocked him back onto the desk surprising both the girls and him.

His golden eyes were met by fiery red and he could feel her claws digging into his soft flesh. She was growling very low in her throat sending him a warning, her ears flattened all the way back as she snapped at him.

At that moment Kenshin came into the room after hearing the noise to find a wolf pining his superior to his desk.

"I suggest you get off of him." he said his violet eyes taking on a deep blue color

The wolf didn't even turn around to acknowledge him it just continued to growl and snap at Saitou.

"Kenshin don't, she's…. a witness!" said Misao when she saw him pull on his sword

"What are you talking about Misao?"

"Now I though she was an informant?" said Saitou as she continued to stare at the wolf

"Um…she's is. That's is I mean she's both." Stuttered Misao

Kaoru just rolled her eyes wondering why she let Misao talk her into this `brilliant' plan of hers.

//If you aren't going to help me stop them then at least tell me where Loki and the Battousai are! //

Everyone in the room looked surprised at her outburst, she shouted it to everyone with out realizing it.

`So she's looking for Saitou and me, why and what is going on?'

Kenshin was looking a little confused his eyes darkening to a deep violet as he thought about what she had said.

Midori waited for the human to speak but he just stared at her his golden eyes boring into her own red ones. She pushed off him and walked towards the door.

//Fine! I do not need your help anyway. However it will be your fault if the two are resurrected//

Glancing one last time at the people in the room she pushed past Kenshin and raced out the door and into the night.

"Saitou mind telling me what exactly is going on?" asked Kenshin

Saitou stood up and dusted off before turning around and picking up his sword then walking out of his office like nothing happened.

" Do not walk away from me."

"What's the matter Himura something bothering you?"

Kenshin growled at him, he knew dam well what was wrong and he was brushing it off. Using his god like speed he was standing in front of him in a matter of seconds his once violet eyes now a mixture of purple and gold.

"Ask the weasel girl."

"Oro?"

Kenshin looked lost what did Misao have to do with what the wolf had said. He looked over at the two girls. They were fidgeting a lot and weren't looking at anything, he narrowed his eyes the two were hiding something.

"Misao, Kaoru is there something you want to share with me?"

"N-Not really Himura."

"N-no, n-not a thing."

Kenshin's gaze narrowed so that only tiny gold slits remained his lips pulled into a frown as he watched the two squirm.

"Well I'm tired. Let's go Misao." Said Kaoru as she faked a yawn and grabbed the other girl's hand pulling her towards the exit only to find it blocked by Kenshin.

"Not until I find out what is going on."

Midori raced down the street still angry that that man would not help her. She couldn't believe how rude and cold he was not to mention she thought somewhat arrogant.

/`Stupid humans, serves them right if they die. I tried to warn them but NO, do they ever listen.'/

She was on the outskirts of the woods when she stopped running, glancing around quickly she decided to change back in to her human form and meet up with Kaoru and Misao. Those two would help her for sure.

She was about to change when she sensed another presence near her. Her head flew up and towards the North, her gaze locking with that of another's. His golden eyes glowing in the darkness, the moonlight making his black fur glitter in the night.

/Looking for me? /

She couldn't move standing only a few feet away from her was Loki himself. The moonlight bouncing off his fur making it look like he was glowing. He took a step towards her his bright golden eyes keeping hold of her red ones.

She blinked a few times not trusting her eyes, was it possible that he was actually the legendary wolf know as Loki? He didn't look like the trickster she heard about however looks could be deceiving because isn't that how she survived all these centuries.

/How do I know you are Loki and not some low class wolf? /

His eyes narrowed to slits and a low growl escaped the back of his throat before he answered her.

/Are you questioning my word? /

Her response was to lower her head her eyes holding his in a silent challenge. Saitou was surprised she was actually challenging him and it had been a long time since some one had challenged him.

He grinned looking forward to the challenge and his eyes began to glow at the though of his prize. This would turn out to be a very good night after all, not a total waste.

The moon was fading slowly away as the sun broke through the sky turning it deep reds, oranges, yellows and light purples. Midori hunched low her eyes never leaving his she would not back down.

If this really was Loki then he could beat her if not then she just rid the world of another useless and probably bloodthirsty wolf. The two were locked in a stare and when the first rays of sun passed over their fur Midori sprung forward.

He ducked and moved to the left avoiding her second attack before whipping around and missing another attempt.

/What's the matter? You seem a little slow./

Her response was a snarl her teeth flashing in the morning light before she lunged at him again.

Kaoru and Misao were sulking in Saitou's office, Kenshin had just finished `talking' to them before he left and went after the two.

"Great idea Misao."

A book hit the back of Kaoru's head followed by a smart remark from Misao. Kaoru turned around and scowled at her.

"What was that for?"

"Do you have to rub it in?"

"You were the one who came up with the plan, you know I can't lie. Especially not to Kenshin, I'm surprised he wasn't suspicious earlier."

"Kaoru you are hopeless."

Her response was to throw the book back at Misao hitting her on the head before turning around in her chair to scowl out the window. This was going to be a very bad day and once Saitou got back it was going to really suck.

Kenshin found them to a small clearing a couple blocks away from headquarters. Saitou was in his wolf form and had pinned Midori down, his jaws wrapped around her throat.

She did not look happy, even from where Kenshin was standing he could tell by how her ki flared that she was not happy at all. She was on her side feet pushing into the soft underbelly of the wolf above her while her right front paw was on his snout.

Saitou had her trapped between his paws and had his mouth around her throat ready to snap down and rip it apart if she moved. Both were staring at each other but it seemed like Saitou was smirking his golden eyes laughing at her.

/ Let go, or I swear I'll gut you./

/Hn, go head and try but you'll be dead before you even move./

Midori growled in the back of her throat but it only seemed to make him laugh even more at her.

/Give up./

/No./

She was not about to admit defeat to him, even if he was Loki this was humiliating to be handled like a pup. She was not going to surrender besides something about how he was looking at her made her fur stand up. He was up to something you could tell by how his eyes shined.

/Just give in, you can't win so why are you even trying./

She just glared at him her red eyes glowing, she shifted her back feet scrapping his stomach drawing blood. It fell onto her white fur staining it but she just kept glaring at him.

Kenshin wasn't sure what to do, it looked like Saitou was enjoying this fight if you could even call it that more like a stale mate. And it seemed he had the upper hand.

"Are you done playing around? We have something of importance to discuss and I believe we need her alive."

Saitou scowled when he heard the Battousai speak he hadn't been aware of him coming because he was so engrossed in the `fight' that he zoned everything out but her.

// I would gladly go but someone refuses to just surrender.//

He took a quick glance at Kenshin before bringing it back to the wolf below him who was still glaring at him.

/Well? /

She growled again her gaze shifting away from his, she really didn't want to admit defeat but staying like this wasn't doing any good and it was sort of embarrassing too.

/ And what are you going to do _ if _ I surrender? /

Saitou grinned his eyes flashing a dark gold.

/ What makes you think I'm up to something? /

/Do you really have to ask? Your not one to just let someone go with out a price./

/Smart. I don't want anything from you, _yet _./

She eyed him this was really going to cost her but if he was willing to help her after this then what choice did she have?

/Fine./

/Fine what? /

/…../

He looked at her waiting patiently a smirk on his face his eyes laughing at her, she was not a very happy wolf.

/I surrender./

/Now you know that's not how it goes./

She had relaxed her body so her paws were no longer on him but he still was clamped on her throat.

/Don't know what you mean./

Kenshin sighed this was taking too long they didn't have time if what she had said earlier was true. Every second counted and they were wasting time just standing there goofing off, but some how he could tell it wasn't just a little fight.

"At the rate you two are going the two will have already been awakened."

//Hn, patience Battousai or are you eager to go to your death? //

He turned back towards his prey and waited the smirk still in place.

/Well?/

Giving an annoyed growl she turned her head as far away as his hold would allow her gaze staring off in to the distance.

/I Phiona Morgan Adams surrender my name to you, the one who has bested me and spared my life, which now, unfortunately, belongs to you to do as you see fit. /

/Was that so hard?/

He said as he let go and backed away. She jumped up instantly and growled at him before walking a few feet away from him and sitting down.

/Baka-ka/

Saitou laughed before he shook his head slightly and began to change back into his human form. Had Phiona turned around she would have noticed this but she wasn't looking at either one.

"Aren't you going to change back?" asked Kenshin as he looked at the white wolf

/Hurry up and change Phiona./

She whirled around and growled at him for using her given name. She was a little surprised to see Captain Saitou there where Loki used to be. She got over it quickly though when she realized he had tricked her into this situation.

//No.//

They both looked at her a little surprised, Saitou just raised an eyebrow but Kenshin spoke up.

"Why not? It's not as if we don't know who you are already. It would also be a lot easier on you as well."

//Oh and why is that human.//

"Human?"

Kenshin just shook his head his red mane flying around him a smirk on his lips.

"I haven't been human for nearly ten centuries."

Phiona's eyes widened slightly as she looked at him.

/ ` Ten centuries?! Is he one of us or is he a vampire?' /

"It would be easier on you because you wouldn't be wasting energy to keep that form hidden from others."

/ ` This day just gets worse and worse' /

Standing up and shaking her body her fur slowly disappeared and hands replaced her paws, in a few short seconds a young girl is kneeling on the ground where the wolf had been.

She was very beautiful even in her human form, her pure white hair pulled into a loose bun with her long bangs hanging around her face. A pair of bright pink almost crimson red eyed staring back at the two men.

She was not looking very thrilled but she didn't say a thing just arched a brow and waited for one of them to move.

Saitou was the first to move turning back towards headquarters with Kenshin and Phiona following behind him neither one saying a thing.
