I found myself anxious for Saitou's return the next night but he didn't show. Three more nights came and went without his presence. I was so pissed I felt like storming into the police station and demanding his whereabouts. That would definitely show him. I smiled at my idea but also felt uncertain, wondering how Saitou would really react to my appearance. Maybe he would just laugh and tell me how stupid I was before he screwed me senseless. I imagined myself bent over his desk, biting down on my hand to keep the other officers from hearing me, while Saitou enjoyed himself. I quickly talked myself out of going to the station. I even had done what Saitou had asked. Not a single drink of sake since that night. Fucking asshole. Why do I even bother with him?
I spent the day with Kenshin, watching his sword practice with Yahiko. His body moved in fluid sweeping motions, graceful and deathly. Later, when Karou and Yahiko had gone to bed, I sat on the porch watching the night sky. The breeze was cool and the night quiet. I easily heard Kenshin's steps approaching from behind.
"Sano"
"Huh?"
"Is something wrong?"
I tilled my head back, only to stare right up into his eyes, "No, why?"
He smiled softly at me. "It seemed like you wanted to say something to me today." He sat down next to me. For a few minutes, it was quiet between us. His hair brushed against my arm with the wind. I watched its little dance for a while. Kenshin caught my gaze and seemed confused.
I laughed at his look, "It's late." I got up and headed towards the entrance.

"Are you drunk again?"
"No, you prick. Where the hell have you been?" I searched around for the lantern.
"Working."
I lit the lantern and watched his lips close around the cigarette's end and suck. I felt hot as he blew the smoke away from me. "I've been waiting for you the past couple of nights." I said as I sat down facing him.
"Oh? That's cute."
I glared daggers. "Fuck you."
He seemed amused as he finished his smoke and snuffed it out on the floor. "Did you touch yourself?"
"What?" He caught me off guard with that.
"I want to know if you touched yourself while thinking of me." He moved closer so that his face was was only inches from my. I averted my face away from his eyes but he just grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him. "Answer me, koi."
