“Someone talking out loud”
Chapter 2
Her eyes flew open and she sat up quickly. She was breathing deeply; her hand lifted to her heart and felt it beat quickly.
“Did you have a bad dream, sweetie.” Came a gruff voice to her right. Misao realized for the first time she was surrounded by the five men she had been running from. Just like her nightmare she was laying there with five men standing over her. Two men reached down to haul her to her feet.
The second her feet touched the ground she snapped out of her daze. Misao started kicking, hitting, and biting tiring to find a way out. Thanks to her training she was stronger and faster then most women and some men, but with out a weapon she didn't stand much of a chance against five men. Before she could block it one of the men hit her over the head, hard. She blacked out.
“What's your name, darling.” Said the nice old woman behind the desk.
“Kaoru” she said slowly as she looked around. Her eyes went back to the old woman when she spoke again.
“You want to be the new king's personal assistant, correct” the old woman asked.
“Yes ma'am” she said giving her a small smile.
“Why would some one as sweet as you want to work for the king?” She asked worried
“He can't be that bad.” Said Kaoru, at least I hope he's not.
“For your sake I hope your right.” Spoke the old woman before standing up.
“Follow me please.” And she turned and walks out. Kaoru followed silently. I hope he is not that bad because I have a Short temper and am likely to explode at him if he is horrible.
“Well here is where you will be sleeping.” She said pointing at a small uncomfortable looking bed in a small room.
“The king should be done with his meeting in an hour. You need to be in his room when he returns. Just do as your told and don't speak unless spoken to and you should be fine.” The woman gave a shaky smile before turning to leave.
“Thank you very much.” Kaoru spoke once again. She turned and walked to her bed before lying down and staring up at the ceiling. What have I gotten my self in to? She thought as she decided to sleep for a half hour.
“Time to get up, princess.” Came a deep voice from her left. Her hand went to her head. Where the hell am I and why does my head hurt so badly. She asked her self as her eyes opened and she looked around. She was in some big office. With two of the men who captured her and a man sitting in a chair in front of her.
“Misao, correct” the man in the chair spoke for the first time.
“Who are you” she spat out her head still pounding.
“I am Shishio” he said with a slow smirk. Her eyes went wide. Shishio, it can't be.
“You killed my family.” She spoke, the hatred rolling of her in waves.
“Ya, sorry about that but they knew too much.” Bastered. If it wasn't for the two men holding her arms she would have jumped him there.
“I am sorry I can't stay and chat, but I have more pressing matters to attend to. Throw her in with the kid.” He spoke and the two men dragged her off. She tried to squirm her way out of there grasp but they had a death grip on both her arms. Before she knew it she was standing in front of a door.
One of the men opened the door and the other shoved her in roughly and locked the door behind her. She turned to try to get out when she heard a little voice behind her.
“Misao” she slowly turned and stared at a slightly beaten looking boy.
“Yahiko”
She looked around the king's room as she waited for him to come back from his meeting. Kaoru twirled her fingers nervously as she waited. She had never seen the king before and didn't know what to expect. She had heard horrible things about the king, that he was brutal and hideous and killed all to defy him.
His room didn't give much of a clue either. He had a giant bed in the middle of the room with blood red sheets. His walls were totally bare. He had a big closet to her left and a big dresser and that was about it. Kaoru's head snapped towards the door when she heard the door knob turn. She took a deep breath and prepared for the worst. The doors opened and...
He kept his face stone cold as he sat through the meeting. In his head however he was sighing in boredom. He didn't even know why he attended these things its not like he hade much of a chose in the way things were ran. He would rather be riding his horse or sword fighting with Aoshi.
Instead he was in this boring meeting with a bunch of boring men trying to get him to agree to this or that. Kenshin looked over at Aoshi standing tall in the corner of the room. He was sure Aoshi was just as bored as he was although you couldn't tell by looking at his face. Aoshi kept up a mask that nobody could read not even him. And they have been friends since kids.
Aoshi was just a young servant boy found by Okina the old man who used to be the leader of his army. Aoshi was taught fighting and sword play trough Okina. When Kenshin and he got older they started sword fighting together teaching each other moves they had learned from there different sensei's.
Aoshi was always quite in front of everybody but Okina and Kenshin. Not even being able to carry a full conversation with anyone else. When Kenshin became king he named Aoshi his bodyguard because he was the only man he trusted, not that he need a body guard but it was a law.
“My lord what do you think we should do.” Said one of the men oblivious to the fact that Kenshin wasn't paying any attention. Shit what did he say?
“Let me think about it and I will let you know next meeting, you're dismissed.” He spoke with strong authority. When the others got up to leave him almost sunk back in his chair. Remembering there were still people watching him. He stood up briskly and walked out stiffly with Aoshi trailing behind him. When he reached his door he turned to Aoshi.
“Meet me out in the stable in 20 minutes. I wish to take a short ride.” With a small nod Aoshi turned and walked off. He grasps the handle and opened the door. He stepped in and closed the door behind him. When he turned he noticed for the first time that he wasn't alone. Only one thought left his mind when he saw her. Beautiful.
