Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ An American Boy in Tokyo ❯ Alex's Goal ( Chapter 7 )
The next day, Mina came over with two other ladies with her. One of them had short cut, dirty blond hair, the other had wavy blue hair that hung down, barely past her shoulders. They knocked on the door.
"Come on in." I said. They opened the door and caught me in the middle of an off road racing game. "Oh that's it, I've had quite enough of you." I said as another car passed me. A sly grin spread across my face. "You are the weakest link, good bye!" I hit the nitro button and side swiped the car flipping my own car across the finish line in first place.
"Nice moves." The taller of the two new girls said. "So you're a gamer, huh?"
"Darn skippy." I replied shutting the game off. "Back at home, I was the district video game champion. I frequented the arcade there so often, they gave me a tab." I smiled. They all three laughed. "Oh, excuse me, where's my manners, come on in, make yourselves comfortable.
"Sorry, can't stay." The other one said. "We've got a prior engagement, but when we saw Mina walking with her head in the clouds, we had to meet the man responsible, though, we were a bit surprised to find out that you're so young. Usually, she's chasing after much older men." Michiru said.
"Well, if you have to go, I guess we can talk cars later, Imara." She stopped.
"What do you know about cars?" She asked.
"Well, probably very little when compared to your knowledge, but a lot more than you'd think by looking at me." I adjusted my glasses. She smiled.
"Actually, I'd say that you know quite a bit, you handled that manuever way too easily to be a common place nerd." She smiled. "And yeah, we'll talk later, nice meeting you, Alex."
"Same here." I replied. Then they walked out the door.
"Thanks for the ride!" Mina shouted after them.
"No problem, Mina, take care." They walked off. Mina turned around and smiled at me.
"Hi, Alex." She said.
"Hey, how'd you sleep last night?" I asked, walking into the kitchen and extinguishing the cigarette.
"Not very well, I tried to, but just couldn't do it. You?"
"Oh, I tossed and turned for a while, then I went upstairs and soaked in a hot bath with just a hint of lavender baby oil. It works every time."
"Wow, lavender baby oil?"
"Yeah, I'll have to daw you a bath some time." I said.
"Alex!" She shouted.
"What? Can't blame a guy for tryin' can you?" I shrugged. "Seriously though, just a little bit of lavender baby oil, three turns of the hot water to one of the cold water. If you like bubbles make sure that they're lavender also, the formula for a perfect soaking bath." She looked at me.
"That seems a little strange for a guy to know." She said.
"Yeah, maybe, but in case you haven't noticed, I'm not exactly a manly man." I said. "I'm a little more in touch with my feminine side, it definitely has it's pluses though." I smiled. "For example, the neatness of the house, I'm not a neat freak by any means, but I can't stand a mess for very long." I said.
"Yeah, and I can see where that might have applications in the dating game too." She said. I nodded.
"True, though until now, I've never had a chance to try them out." I shrugged. "Wanna be my guinea pig for a while?" I asked smiling.
"Guinea Pig? You'd better watch it, you!" She drew a fist back.
"Relax, Mina, I'm just joking." I said, sitting down on the couch. "So what are the others up to today?" I asked, she sat down beside me.
"Well, Serena's with Darien, Raye's at the temple with her grandpa, Amy's at the college book store today, looking for new and updated books, and Lita's probably hanging out at the mall eyeballing the boys as they walk by." She sighed and leaned back against the couch. "It's kind of boring without highschool." She said. I smiled.
"Oh come on, you can't be serious." I replied. "You just have to find something to do to kill time and have fun." I smiled. "Like me, for example, after highschool was over with, I went down to my bedroom and started inventing things left and right. Then again, I forced my graduation before my sophomore year had ended." I said.
"Really? How'd you do that?" Mina asked.
"Well, the principal didn't like me, he was a sports fan. So I told him that if he gave me one week off school, I'd come back and ace all of the final tests I would need to graduate." I chuckled. "It took a little coaxing, but finally he agreed when I offered to go through my sophomore year twice if I didn't ace them all."
"Wow, you're incredible, Alex, that takes a lot of brain power. Why didn't you go to college?" She asked, I shrugged.
"I may someday, but for the most part it's all stuff I already know. Besides, if I keep the invention line going, I'll never have worry about money or a job anyway, I'll be living off royalties my entire life." I shrugged. "A lot of people would say how that's amazing for someone my age to accomplish, and how remarkable it is, and yada yada yada, but you know something, I don't look at it like that."
"How do you look at it, then, because it is amazing."
"I look at it, as something I had to do to make my own ends meet, it's my job. Yeah, I'm good at it, yeah, it has potential to change the entire world, but really it all boils down to helping me reach my goal."
"And what goal is that?" Mina asked.
"Being among the ranks of the world's most famous inventors, like Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin to name a few." I said. "But I still have a long way to go before I get to a project that big." I said. "Right now, I'm still in the beginning stages of my inventing career, inventing small items that corporations pick up and spice up with gimmicks and sales, eventually, I want to make an item that sells itself, an item that everyone can use, with little cost to make so that everyone can afford to use it, then I'll be on my way into the history books."
"Really?" She asked. "Oh wow, that would be so cool, having teachers drone on and on for hours about something you did centuries ago."
"Well in this world, you guys are already there." I said smiling. "In my world, you're in the history books of animation, taught in all major art schools around the country, even in the U.K. and other parts of the world too."
"So, we have a lot of fans, don't we?" She asked. I nodded. "how many of them are like you?" She asked.
"Oh, I'm just an Otacon." I replied. "We're dime a dozen in the states."
"An Otacon? What's that?"
"It's short for Otaku Convention, a collection of anime freaks that get together annually in different parts of the country to celebrate your existance, along with other famous anime cartoons like Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Beebop, The Gunsmith Cats, so on and so forth. It's a lot of fun, if I could take you back to my world with me, that'd be the first thing I did was called my superior."
"Otacons have a rank structure?" She asked. I nodded.
"It's how we keep track of new releases and stuff." I said. "I'm second from the top, a regional commander...or at least I was anyway." I said. "There are some things I miss about that place, but for the main part, I don't think I could force myself to go back." I stopped and lit a cigarette. "Anyways, did you want to go out and do something?" I asked. She stood up with me and smiled.
"How about the arcade?" She asked. I smiled.
"Sounds good to me, let's do it." We went out and jumped in my car taking off to the arcade.
