Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ An American Boy in Tokyo ❯ The New Threat ( Chapter 8 )
The weeks passed quickly following my arrival, and I had begun learning my way around town really well. I had begun working on my latest invention, polarized bifocals. Regular glasses that would effectively reduce glare and sunlight. I needed to come up with something fairly quickly, and get some cash flow generated on this side, because there was no telling how long the other bank account would stay opened. If it was a worm hole, and the entire house had been consumed, my parents were probably searching for me, after a while, they'd give up on me as dead, and close the bank account. Everything was going perfectly. But every anime lover knows that that's the most dangerous time ever in the anime universe. Just when everything seems to be going perfectly, something always happens. This time was no exception, much to everyone's surprise.
It happened when we were convened at an ice cream place, everyone was talking about their days, and then the conversation turned to Mina and myself.
"You know, I never would have imagined Mina settling down with a man of your caliber, Alex." Amy said smiling.
"Definitely, but now that I see you two together, it's a perfect fit." Artemus agreed. "Even her mother can't wait to meet you!" I smiled and looked sheepish.
"That's one talent that I haven't used in a while." I replied.
"What's that?" Lita asked. I shrugged.
"My friends used to tell me that I had a gift for dealing with parents. Regardless of what mood they were in, I was able to assess the situation and do something or say something to completely alter their day. Like one of my buddies, his mom was a collector of fine china, right? Well she was having a bad day, and James bringing home bad marks on his report card just made it worse. She just snapped and threw a dish at the wall. It was like I went into auto pilot and I jumped in front of the dish and caught it, mid flight, right before it was going to knock over a thousand dollar center piece on the coffee table. She was completely flabbergasted and spent the rest of the time we were there apologizing. In the end, rather than grounding him, she sent him over to my place with me to study." I said smiling.
"So you can handle anyone's parents?"
"I've never met a parent that didn't like me." I said. "Not to brag or anything, I just find it funny that someone like me is actually capable of doing that sort of thing. It's completely out of character." Just then, there was a tap on my shoulder.
"Excuse me, young man, are you Alex Simpleton?"
"That depends, who wants to know?"
"I'm here to warn you, there's someone coming, a powerful force that has been studying this planet for decades, they're now ready to invade."
"You're kidding, what kind of force are we talking about?" I asked.
"The darker side of the Negaverse." He replied. "Do you think that your being here was an accident?" He asked. Suddenly he jumped and fell to the ground disappearing without a trace. In his place, was what appeared to be a microchip. I bent down and picked it up carefully, putting it in my pocket.
"Okay then, who's ready to go?" I asked. They all nodded seriously and we drove out to my place. I examined the microchip and sketched it out searching the computer's database for a similar design. Finally one popped up, but it was a military chip that was severely out dated.
"What's up, do we have any answers yet?" Darien asked.
"Nothing definite, but it looks like we may be fighting our own."
"Sailor scouts?" Serena asked. I shook my head.
"No, human beings. This chip is an obsolete military encryption device. It would be surgically implanted into the hands of covert operatives to send messages between commanding officers in times of war." I said. "Whoever that was, he was an American operative at one time." I searched the internet for the device needed to decrypt the messages. It was a simple device, and in a few hours, I had pieced one together and plugged it up to the computer. "Okay, we're decrypting the message." A few minutes passed and I brought up the screen with the message on it.
"Sieze the planet, The mother of Earth, Day light has ended, Alex is the key. What the heck, a poem?" Darien asked. My eyes grew wide as I stared at the screen.
"Oh my god, we're in trouble." I said.
"What is it, Alex, do you know who it is."
"Take the first word from each line." I replied.
"Sieze the day Alex." Lita said. "Okay, so they're giving you advice?"
"No, it's a scare tactic." I replied, lighting another cigarette. "Amy, what's another way of saying Sieze the day?"
"Carpe Diem...oh my..." she replied. I nodded.
"Brilliant encryption, they knew exactly how to lead me right to it." I said. "That bothers me, I'm new to this series, they shouldn't have that much data on me yet."
"Maybe they're from your world?" Mina asked.
"It's possible, but what I want to know is what they want." I replied. "Tracing origin of this chip." I said as the computer scanned the chips serial number and traced it. "This is impossible, this chip was made in Van Buren, Arkansas?" I asked.
"Where's that?" Mina asked.
"My home town." I replied. "That explains how they know so much about me."
"What about weak points?" Darien asked. "Serena's not exactly in a condition to fight." He said.
"Agreed." Artemus chimed in. "We can't risk that child's life. But how do we finish the battle without Sailor Moon?"
"I might be able to stand in." I said. Everyone turned to face me.
"How? You don't have any powers, do you?" Mina asked. I shook my head.
"No, but these guys aren't stupid, no doubt they've already found a way around your powers, they've done their homework, and if it is someone from my world, he or she already knows all of your weak points." I said. "However, I can play that game too. Guerilla warfare is out of the question, odds are they have technology far superior to ours."
"Okay, so what's your point?" Darien asked getting frustrated.
"Well, it's simple, what's the one thing that can shut down any kind of circuitry without proper shielding?" I asked.
"EMP," Amy replied quickly. "And if they have proper shielding?"
"It'll slow them down long enough to formulate another idea." I said. "Bad part is we need to actually engage them in battle before we can tell whether or not it will work. If they are technology based, I might be able to salvage some of it and get more precise data on weak points, maybe even strategy and theatre of opperations."
"But they are definitely Negaverse?"
"That's what the man said." I replied. "Given the recent events surrounding my arrival here, I'm not about to doubt him." I turned back to the computer. "I need to design something, a weapon for me to use." I said. I started sketching on the light pad, and the designs came up on screen as I worked.
"How long do you need to finish the design and development?" Darien asked.
"Anything we can do to help?" We turned to look as Trista, Imara, and Michelle stood in the doorway to my room. "We felt the energy from whoever it was that spoke to you, Alex, what are we dealing with here?"
"The darker side of the Negaverse." I replied. "Imara, what's your take on this?" I asked pointing to the screen in front of me as the exterior design popped up. She walked over and smiled.
"You'd be carrying enough fire power to decimate a city." She said. "You sure you can lift that much? Oh, never mind, hydraulic muscle enhancers. Looks good to me." She replied. "So, Serena's getting benched, huh?"
"Good call." Trista said. "She needs to worry about that kid."
"Guys, hello, I'm right here!" Serena said waving her hands in the air. "Stop talking about me in front of my face, that's rude!" I turned back and pulled up some schematics from former inventions of mine.
"Okay, preliminary design complete, we're ready to move on to proto type." I said. "Who wants to go shopping?" I asked.
