Guardian of Love
The Origins
Chapter 22 - Resounding Actions
By Angel Love

Author's Notes: This is based during the second part of the R season of the show. The conversations with Serena and Darien occur during that night that Serena has the nightmare that Darien had been having constantly. I twisted a few of the facts but it doesn't mess too much with the storyline.

Warnings: None.

Standard disclaimers apply. I don't own Sailor Moon, the Greek Gods or any of the various characters that I have used to fashion them after. However, the Guardians are mine, please ask before you use them.

Osmound came into the room, his shoulders slumping. He paused and looked around and his shoulders slumped even more. “I was hoping Brenna was here,” he mumbled so quietly that if we had not stopped talking the moment he arrived we would not have heard him.

I sighed softly and patted the spot next to me on the small cushioned couch, scooting Eros over so that there would be enough room. After a moment's of hesitation he moved over and plopped himself down so hard that he shifted both myself and the God, causing us to look at each other before looking over at the unusually down Guardian of Virtue.

Before we could ask though, Rose's voice spoke up as she entered the room. “I do not need to look into the timeline to know that things did not go well for your senshi.” He shook his head, hunched over as he looked down at his hands and her eyes softened with sympathy. “Brenna will be here later today, Rosely sent her to check something out with Chesna.”

I laid my hand on his shoulder, noting the way the muscles on his back were taut with tension and stress. “If you want to talk to us though, we are willing to listen.”

Vega moved silently across the room and held out a drink for Osmound to take. “Angel is right, why don't you talk to us? It will help.”

Osmound looked at the drink for a moment before he took the glass in his hand and sighed deeply. He didn't drink from it, instead he stared at it for a long moment and then finally he spoke quietly. “That senshi is destroying planet after planet, the lives don't seem to matter at all to her. She's killing them all.”

Rose sighed and shook her head in disgust. “Senshi are supposed to protect, not destroy. What happened with your senshi? I didn't sense their death but since they are not mine...” she shrugged a shoulder when I shot her a look that was not really a good way to ask him something like that.

Osmound however just sighed and twirled the white liquid in his glass. “You're half right; they aren't dead, but worse.”

I blinked slowly and glanced at Eros again as he asked softly. “Worse, what is worse than death?”

He looked up at us slowly, his brown eyes looked bloodshot and rimmed with red, as if he'd seen horrible things happen, and he probably did. “She didn't kill them. She beat them and then offered them their lives in exchange for their... services. She made them her slaves by taking their star seeds.”

My mouth dropped open with shock. A senshi's star seed was their soul, without it they would die, just like with us and our quartzes. “Oh Osmound, I'm sorry that happened, but I don't understand, how did she take their star seeds without killing them?”

Osmound sighed and he took a sip of the drink finally, glanced at it and then up at Vega. I could tell that he wondered what it was but he wasn't in the mood to ask. I myself had wondered on a few occasions, but Vega would never tell me, just that it was a drink from his planet. “She put golden bracelets on their wrists. If they don't do exactly what she says she'll take the bracelets away and then they will die.” He sighed and set the glass aside on the very edge of the table in front of us, making Eros lean forward and move a little further back so that it wouldn't fall. “When she took their seeds, she corrupted their minds as well. They are no longer protectors of peace, but bringers of destruction. The only thing they live for is Galaxia and her wish to destroy everything.”

I felt anger burn through me and I got up from the couch so fast that Vega quickly stepped out of my way. I could hear Rose in my mind telling me to calm down but I wasn't listening to her as I paced the room, feeling my golden hair tangle a little with my legs as it whipped around me. “I don't understand this! I don't understand how Rosely can just sit back and allow her senshi to go around killing innocent lives while she just sits back saying that she'll handle it. I don't understand why we aren't allowed to go help our senshi fight Galaxia! We are Guardians, but that doesn't mean we should sit here and do nothing. We are supposed to be protecting these people for Goddess' sake! Why can't Rosely do something?”

“Why can't you hold your tongue?” a new voice said, making me spin around in shock. There stood Rosely, looking madder than I had ever seen her. I could feel the tension from the others in the room and I saw Rose shift to move to my side.

`Calm down, Angel, an argument with her will not bring back Osmound's senshi,' she whispered in my mind.

I barely flicked my eyes in her direction but I ignored her and moved towards Rosely to stand directly in front of her. “Maybe I have been holding my tongue too long, Rosely. Why aren't you doing anything? She's your senshi!”

Her hand snapped out so fast that I had never seen it coming but I sure felt it as it made contact with my face. She hit me hard enough to not only snap my head to the side but to send me hurtling into the ground with a force that shook my entire body. I heard Rose shout out my name as Rosely dropped to one knee in front of me. She turned my face towards her with a finger, looking into my wary but wide eyes with eyes that held a warning in the hazel depths. She gently ran a finger over the spot on my cheek where she had slapped me, her voice soft but holding a venomous warning to it. “Do not make me punish you again for forgetting your place, Sailor Love. I am the leader of the Guardians and I will handle my own senshi as I see fit. Do not question me again.”

I blinked slowly at her; confused and shaken at the way Rosely was acting. I had seen her angry plenty of times, she had been gentle around me plenty of times, but she had never struck me before, and she had never been gentle like this. I didn't understand her, I didn't understand what was going on inside her mind, and what unsettled me most is I could read no emotions from her.

Rose was standing over me in a matter of seconds, although to me it seemed like an eternity later. She was glaring darkly and defiantly at Rosely. “Get away from my sister. If you ever strike her like that, I will destroy you. I don't care who you are,” she hissed at her as Eros helped me to stand.

“You better watch your mouth, girl,” Rosely hissed back at her. She started to pull her staff out of her space pocket but Vega gently put a hand on her arm and shook his head, for some reason she listened to his silent request and just continued to glare at Rose.

Rose glared right back at her before she allowed Eros and me to move her out of the room. We were half way down the hallway to our rooms when Eros finally broke the silence with his soft voice. “Angel, are you okay? She hit you very hard.”

I nodded vaguely although my mind was still going over everything that had happened. Obviously my non-verbal response was not good enough for Rose because she stopped suddenly and turned me towards her. She too ran her finger along my cheek as she examined, frowning deeply. “You are already bruising. I should have just blasted her out of the room when she raised her hand.”

Sighing softly and shaking my head, I gently grasped Rose's hand. “No, that would have just made things worse. I upset her by questioning her. It didn't give her the right to do that, but that's all there is to it.” I shrugged and then I felt the sensation of Serena calling to me.

Rose had obviously felt it as well because she sighed and released me. “Be careful on Earth not to be seen. We don't want the senshi to have to deal with your presence, as well as the fight that they are going through now.”

I nodded my head vaguely again and pulled my staff out of my space pocket. I turned and looked up at Eros as Rose walked on by herself towards our rooms. “Will you keep an eye on her, please? She's really angry about Rosely. I don't want her to go after her in the state of mind that she's in. She'd never win.”

He nodded his head and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “You never had to ask, Tenshi.” He pulled back to look at me closely with his green eyes while grasping the top of my arms. “Are you sure you're okay?”

I sighed softly and shook my head. “No, I'm not. I'm confused about what happened. I knew she was mad but not that mad.” I paused and looked up at him slowly. “I couldn't feel any emotions from her either when she touched me.” He frowned deeply but refrained from telling me whatever was going on inside his mind. He often frustrated me when he did that, but for once I was grateful. I could feel Serena calling to me again and I pulled away from him and turned to open the Gates. I waved a goodbye at him, nodding when he told me to be careful and then stepped through, instantly stepping into Serena's darkened bedroom.

From the sounds of the crickets chirping I could tell that it was late in Tokyo and that Serena should be sleeping, but from the sounds of her muffled sobs, she was crying instead. I felt a horrible wave of pain go through me that came from her and I sighed deeply. I had known something had happened between her and Darien but I had hoped that it would be resolved before now. Obviously it had not.

I moved silently over to the bed and laid my hand on her shoulder, blinking in surprise because I had not expected to see a little pink haired girl sleeping in the bed. It did not seem to matter to Serena however as she threw her arms around me and hugged me tightly. I soothed her softly until she finally calmed down enough to just sniffle quietly in my arms, then I whispered, “Serena, perhaps we should go elsewhere...”

She looked up at me, blinking her wide blue eyes. “But why...?” She followed my look to the little girl in her bed and then groaned deeply, looking completely disgusted. Whether it had been at herself for forgetting the little girl had been there or the little girl herself, I could not know. “Stupid spore,” she muttered before she rose and motioned for me to follow her through the dark house.

We moved silently down the stairs after making sure her family was all still asleep and then settled ourselves in the living room, keeping it dark to not cause any attention that we were there. I settled on the overstuffed chair, which I could assume belonged to her father since it had a male scent to it, and looked up at her, watching her flop herself down on the couch. “Tell me what happened between you and Darien.”

Her blue eyes welled up with tears again and she nearly wailed out, “He broke up with me!”

I blinked slowly and then nodded my head. That would most definitely explain the pain I could feel from the Moon Princess. “Shh,” I whispered soothingly, “I will help you sort a little of this out, but you have to try to remain calm and not cry.” When she just sniffled and nodded I asked, “Did he give you a reason for the break up?”

Serena nodded as she twisted up a handkerchief in her hands. “He said he didn't want to spend his whole life living in the past, that we have new lives now. But he keeps coming to my rescue and he even kissed me when I nearly fell into an eternal sleep.” She sniffled loudly, making me fear another attack of her unstoppable wails. “But then he just walked away saying something about how our love was beautiful when it was in bloom but it would wither up,” she clutched her loose golden hair and sniffled even louder, starting to cry again. “How could he just walk away from me, Angel? He's my soul mate!”

Rising from the chair, I moved over to her and gently wrapped her in my arms, slowly enfolding her in my wings, which seemed to have worked because she quieted slowly as she felt the soft downy feathers tickle her face a little. When I was sure she was calm again I asked softly. “Did anything happen just before he broke up with you?”

She started to shake her head before she stopped and then nodded. “He met my parents.” She looked up at me quickly. “But that doesn't have anything to do with it, I'm sure of that.”

For a moment I doubted that, but then I didn't really think that Darien was the type of person who could be bullied off, or even bought off by someone's parents, especially with how much I knew he was in love with Serena Tsukino. I finally nodded my head. “I think you are right, that doesn't have anything to do with this. It is just a really bad coincidence. Did anything else happen?”

She nodded her head again. “Rini showed up. Actually she dropped down from the sky and landed on my head, before pointing a gun at me and demanding the Silver crystal. I refused to give it to her but she keeps asking for it. The spore is such a brat, and she's taken to cozying up to Darien whenever she can!”

I lifted an eyebrow slowly. “Interesting child,” I said softly. “Even with all I have seen, small children don't just drop out of the sky.” I thought about the way Trista had been quiet and secretive about something and I was sure that she had something to do with this. I would ask her to tell me the child's story later. “I'm sure her reason for being here will soon come out into light.”

She nodded her head and sighed. “We already know that she's from the future. Sailor Pluto asked us to watch over her because it was too dangerous there. The Black Moon family is also from the future.”

I nodded my head slowly and sighed. “I had a feeling that Trista had been up to something. She's been constantly at the Gates of Time lately. Did...”

Serena however cut off my question as she pulled back and gave me a desperate look. “Angel, you have to talk to Darien! You have to find out from him why he's being like this, why we can't be together!”

I blinked slowly in shock and then my eyes softened as well as my heart in sympathy. “Oh, Serena, if I could I would find out why he is being like this. You know that I cannot. If he sees me he will remember everything.”

Serena however was not going to let this go. She grabbed onto my shoulders, looking even more desperate. “Please, Angel, I need to know. Think about how you would feel if you were away from the one you were meant to be with for all time and you didn't know why!”

I sighed and pulled away from her, accidentally slapping her with one of my wings, but to her credit she did not mutter a complaint, instead she watched me silently as I stared out the window of the living room, watching Luna chase after something in the dark. Inside though I was weighing my choices, knowing that either way I went it was not going to have completely positive outcomes. If Darien saw me then he would remember, and he might not take very well to those memories, especially with the way he was rejecting Serena right now, but then it might help her if he could remember just what they had been through and how devoted they were to helping each other then.

I sighed once more and closed my eyes. In my mind I thought about those beautiful midnight blue eyes that haunted my dreams. How would I feel if he rejected me and did not give me a decent reason as to why? I would feel even more horrible than I do right now with his separation. I finally turned and looked at the miserable senshi of love and justice. “Alright, I will talk to him, only because I understand what it is like to be separated from one that you love.”

Serena squealed with happiness and she jumped up and threw her arms around me. “Thank you! Oh thank you, Angel!”

I gently shushed her with a hand over her mouth while laughing softly. “Alright, calm down.” I gave her a serious look. “I cannot guarantee that anything good will come of it though.”

She nodded her head rapidly at me. “I know. Will you make sure he knows that I still love him?”

I smiled and nodded. “I'm sure he already knows that, but I will be sure to get that point across. Now go on up to bed and try to get some sleep, okay? I'll come see you in a few days.” She nodded and she gave me another quick hug before she turned and hurried back up the stairs.

I sighed and mumbled to myself that I was getting much too soft in my old age as I shifted down into a spaghetti strapped red top and white cotton pants. I didn't want to cause too much attention as I let myself out the front door and then walked down the street in the path towards Darien's apartment. I probably would have enjoyed the stroll that I had if my cheek wasn't throbbing as well as my mind wasn't going in about a thousand different ways to make sure that Darien did not cause me some harm before he recognized who I was.

I let myself up the fire escape of the apartment building and then climbed onto his balcony. I was half surprised to find that it was unlocked and I let myself into the apartment. I had thought I would find him sleeping, instead I nearly ran right into him as he was walking out to the balcony.

“Who are you?” he immediately asked as he stared at me with narrowed eyes, looking me up and down.

“Great,” I muttered, “this is off to a good start already. Um... may I come in so no one will overhear this conversation,” when he started to tell me no, I quietly added, “Endymion?”

The use of his name got his attention right away and he ushered me fully inside and closed the door quickly behind him. He was instantly moving towards the lamp to turn it on. “Who are you and how do you know who I am?”

I quickly stopped his hand from pulling the switch and spoke quietly. “I promise I will answer that, but perhaps you better let me turn on the light, while you go sit down.”

I could see his frown through the darkness. “And why should I do that?”

Sighing softly, I spoke even softer. “Trust me, Darien, you will want to be sitting down when you see who I am.”

Darien looked as if he was considering throwing me out or just turning on the light himself, but finally he nodded and he moved over to the chair and sat down. It was only then that I reached up and turned on the light, bathing the room in it. It wasn't a very bright light but it still took several moments for our eyes to adjust to it. Then he got a good look at me as I simply watched him. His eyes went wider than I had ever seen them go and then slowly he dropped his head into his hands and he gave a low mournful sound. “Are they okay?”

“They are fine. I'm not here because of your generals, but because of Serena,” I said softly.

Darien jumped to his feet, panic showing in his midnight eyes. “Serena?! What happened to Serena?”

I gently moved over to him and laid a hand on his shoulder, easing him back down before I sat down myself. “You have happened to Serena.” I watched the confused look cross his face before he sighed and looked away, not looking too pleased with himself. “So do you want to tell me just why you broke up with her? And don't bother lying to me and saying that you don't want to live in the past, because if you didn't love her you would not have reacted that way.”

He shot me a look but nodded his head slightly. “I am trying to protect her.”

I lifted an eyebrow slowly. “From what, you?”

Darien nodded his head slowly. “I've been getting these nightmares. Serena and I are getting married and then she's ripped away from me. I hear a voice telling me that she will die if I stay with her.” He suddenly looked at me sharply. “Are you giving me these visions?”

I blinked wide eyes at him. “Why in Goddess name would you ask me that?”

He gave me an almost deadpan look. “Because it wouldn't be the first time you had given me visions.”

“Oh,” I said softly. “Actually if I had, it would be the first time. Rose and I aren't capable of giving visions. That is Sailor Peace's power; we just tapped into her and helped manipulate them so that we could talk to the two of you. I assure you that it isn't us doing this.”

I had hoped that this would have settled him; instead it only seemed to make him more upset. He ran a hand through his ebony hair, looking miserable. “Then I'm getting predictions of the future. I have to stay away from her.”

I shook my head. “You cannot be sure of this, Darien. It could just be a nightmare. Serena still loves you very deeply and I know you love her too. Why would you risk being away from her?”

“Because I cannot risk her life,” he answered without a moment's hesitation.

“But you would make her miserable because you refuse to tell her the real reason why you don't want to be with her?” I snapped at him. He rose, trying to get out of answering me, but I followed him right out onto the balcony. “Darien, do not do this. I know what a life of loneliness is. Do not make her or yourself suffer needlessly. If the fates are going to step in and take her away from you, they will do it regardless of you being with her or not.”

He gave me a dark look as he gripped the bars on the balcony. “That's not really comforting to hear, Angel.”

Looking sheepish, I shrugged a shoulder. “I am merely telling you the truth.” I sighed and leaned against the balcony railing, vaguely thinking of when I had done this not too long ago with Mina standing next to me asking me the hard questions. It brought my thoughts back to my soulmate. I sighed and looked up at the stars. “Darien, if something happens to her and she does not make it through this fight against whomever the Black Moon family, you are going to forever regret her thinking that you do not love her anymore.”

Darien studied me for a moment before he reached out and touched my cheek, making me wince and move away from him. “I'm sorry; I did not mean to hurt you.” He frowned deeply when I tried to avoid his eyes and grasped my chin, studying the nasty bruise that was visible in the soft light coming from the living room “What happened?”

I wrinkled up my nose. “I got slapped for my big mouth.” I gave him a look. “You are not going to get out of our conversation, Darien Chiba, by asking me about my bruises.”

Darien grinned sheepishly before he gave me a serious look. “Things aren't going well in other places either, are they?”

I sighed and shook my head, glancing up at the stars. “No, young prince, they are not. That is why I worry for you and your princess. You need to be united in the fights to come.”

He started to ask me something but a pounding on the door, accompanied by Serena's shouts for Darien caught out attention. He paused and I put my hand on his arm, looking up at him. “If you do not talk to her, you will regret it. Do not turn your back on love, Darien, or else your life will forever be miserable.” He nodded slightly and moved into the apartment.

I didn't wait to see what happened. I opened the Gates of Time and stepped through them. I don't know if anything I said really helped, but I do know that not very long after the conversations with the Moon Princess and her Terrain Prince, they did indeed reconcile and they faced the battle over the Earth against the Black Moon family together.

To be continued...
