Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ Memories Returned ❯ Remembrance ( Chapter 1 )
Remembrance
Makoto landed with a noisy thud. She pulled herself up and turned her head side to side, observing her surroundings.
It seems she had landed in a lovely pasture, though covered in a blanket of icy white snow. She noticed the cluster of buildings in the distance and decided to go there and locate where she was.
She jumped up, landing on her feet, and started to walk towards the little city. As she got closer, she could hear voices. She suddenly realized that Pluto had given her the address of the house she was to live in.
She looked down at her watch/communicator, and flipped the small lid up; it was 1:00 A.M already.
Turning to the side, her house was right next to her (what a coincidence). She entered the house. Sighing, she retrieved her bag beside her, and headed for the closet.
After looking around a bit, she threw her bag into the corner chair and fell back against the bed.
Makoto sighed before removing her clothes, anticipation and nervousness draining her of all remaining strength. She swiftly removed her clothes and dressed in a tank top and some shorts before crawling into bed and quickly succumbing to slumber.
The Moon bloomed full upon the horizon. As it rose above the trees, and the cozy, yet large, house rested right in front of the forest. A rustling could be heard in the woods as an eerie howl pierced the night sky.
The icy winter gust pushed its way through open balcony window, tossing a few papers off the fine oak table, where a computer lay. A black haired teenage boy tossed and turned in his sleep, beads of sweat trickling down his forehead, a distraught look on his face.
*Dream/Flash Back*
"Brothers!" A small four-year-old girl with big emerald eyes and a mass of brunette hair threw herself into her eldest brother's arms.
"Mako-chan," Gohan exclaimed hugging his youngest sibling.
Makoto turned and waved rowdily at her other brother, "Hi, Goten!"
Goten laughed violently, Gohan soon joining in.
"Your dead!" Makoto cried dashing towards him at full force.
Goten looked up soon enough, and caught the flying girl, falling backwards as she tackled him. Then she sat up on his chest and started to mess up his hair even though it didn't really change it that much.
His jet black, inky hair spiked upward and back off his scalp with it's usual disarray, looking coarse and unbendable, not to mention completely unfashionable.
The door burst open, their mother, Chi-chi, stood there wavering uncontrollably as she walk towards them.
"What's wrong mommy?" Makoto asked, as she stared at her mother with utmost concern.
Goten and Gohan followed their eyes asking the same question.
"Shh baby, it's alright. Just keep quiet, and we'll be fine. Ok?" Chi-chi asked, Makoto nodded vigorously; not knowing what was going on, thinking it was another one of daddy's tricks. More so because her father wasn't there.
"I need all of you to be very, very brave and strong. I don't mean just now. I mean all the time. You're all smart, and capable of being something great. Don't let these silly emotions that you'll feel, hurt you. Be strong for me.... please, sweetheart, your father, and I need you to be strong. Ok?" she asked, now looking distraught.
She nodded without hesitation.
"Good girl. Now I want you to stay here, and be as silent as you can. Whatever you do, don't make a sound. Do you understand?"
"Yes, I do." Goten whispered back as Makoto and Gohan both nodded in agreement.
"Gohan, Goten I want you to promise to always protect your sister. No matter what happens look out for her and each other, please?" Chichi asked, her voice showing a great deal of emotion.
Gohan and Goten turned to look at each, other then at Makoto, and back at each other. Turning to their mother they nodded.
Chichi quietly rose from her crouched position under the table, and tiptoed towards the door.
But changed her mind, and went towards an old, heavy desk. She walked behind it and started to push, but it was caught on the carpet, so she switched sides and lifted it, before pulling it towards the door.
When she was right in front of the door, about to pull the desk in front of it, the door flew open, and a sound of bitter laughter rang throughout the room.
"Did you really think that pathetic piece of wood was going to keep me out?" he asked in a mocking `amazed' voice, and another round of harsh, bitter cackle sounded again.
Makoto looked at this man from the desk, underneath where wires and such could be put. The man was so evil looking; hatred raging in his eyes, and no doubt, had no feelings for other people.
I think she had heard his name before, wasn't it Cool or something like that. She wanted to scream, or run away with her mother and brothers, or something other than being here looking at him, talk brusque with her mother.
"Guess what, we're going to finish you off, and then we'll find those brats of yours and some fun with them, sounds good huh?" he asked, expecting her to have an answer for him.
When he realized she was going to be silently protesting (like anyone would do), he became enraged, and snapped his hand out to grab her hair.
He succeeded, and pulled her head down to allow pain to surface through her head.
"You'll never find her. You're too stupid to find her. So if that was your plan, you better get the job done with me, and move on." After she made her speech, she gave it an extra meaning by spitting in his face.
He smirked in amusement of her aggressiveness. Which grew wider, when he saw a single tear fall from her fearless eyes.
"Scared are we? Well I can put an end to all your fears, and unhappiness, unless you don't tell me where your whore is hiding? If you don't tell me, I'll torture you until you do, ok?" he asked making a stupid face.
"Never." She said in a growl. "Well then…" the man spoke pulling out a katana, then putting it to her throat.
"Now are-"Don't touch her!" three new male voices boomed as he dropped his katana, dropping in a loud clatter on the floor. One man stood in front of the door, his bright lemon colored locks spiking up, his green eyes glaring at them ferociously, as if trying to warn them. And two boys stood near a table also glaring at him anger and rage shown.
"Now here's a warning. Let her go, leave, never come back, and I won't have to blast you to small pieces!" the one near the door yelled walking to them, hands balled in fists. Goten charged at them, at full force, a bright yellow ball forming around his balled fists.
Cooler received a nasty slap to the right cheek, which unsurprisingly made him double back falling on his rear end.
The slap encounter was mighty enough to leave a stinging feeling behind when the attacking hand left his skin and he could tell the slapped cheek was turning into a pink rash.
Gohan didn't hesitate his aggression as he threw a swift right hand to Cooler's mouth. This had taken the alien by sheer shock when he stumbled on his feet. Cooler groaned from the fierce punch he had encountered.
His jaws felt like they were going to break apart. Goku had the opportunity to creep up on Cooler while he was still a little dizzy from Gohan's and Goten's mighty punches and gently struck a delicate nerve point on the back of his neck.
It was a gentle touch true but it knocked Cooler dead instantly like a magic spell. Gohan gasped at this fast action.
"Whoo Hoo! Dad did it! Ya ha!" Goten exclaimed jumping up in the air, one fist raised.
"BROTHER! DADDY!"
Makoto frantic voice called out. "HELP!" "Mako!!" A panicked look crossed the face of a young boy. As he turned to see his sister, captured, by a few of Cooler's hench men. Her scared, pleading eyes begging him to save her.
"You bastard if you hurt my daughter I swear you'll regret it!" Goku yelled charging at them at full force.
"HELP! GOHAN! GOTEN! DADDY!"
Struggling against the men holding her, she watched as her eldest brother Gohan dodged the guy's attacks with ease. While her other older brother Goten was heading in her direction, but stopped by the third guy who had kicked him in the gut. He stumbled back a bit, but recovered quickly.
She closed her eyes for a moment, nearly weeping in relief.
"Dead Scream."
She closed her eyes again as it washed over her, leaving no trace of pain... on her. The men on the other hand, screamed in agony and fell down unconscious.
A tall, slender woman walked out of the shadows, her face tranquil and serene. The top layers of her forest green locks were held up, pulled back and tied into a small medium sized bun, the rest of her hair pooling to the ground. On her forehead was a golden tiara, and in the center was an oval shaped, maroon colored garnet, which was embedded into it. Her fuku was black and white with a hint of dark purple here and there. Her lower legs were encased in a pair of black knee-high boots. In her hand was a long slender staff, topped with a garnet orb.
"Pluto." The name fell from Makoto's lips and for a moment, she knew, she remembered all.
A portal opened and they stepped through, disappearing in an instant. Leaving her two brothers, mother, and father to stare where she once was, tears slipping down their now redden cheeks and a heart wrenching cry escaping their lips.
*End of Dream/Flash Back*
A nineteen-year-old Gohan shot up from his bed now in a sitting position. He blinked somewhat rapidly in the dark, staring up at the ceiling above him for a moment, struggling to regain his bearings.
His mind was filled with so many thoughts as he closed his eyes. Moving his position on his bed he found himself staring at the ceiling with a blank expression.
His mind was returning to the day he had first met his baby sister. How her bright emerald green eyes glittered beautifully when she saw him. He can still remember the hurt look on her face and how she started to cry begging him to save her. As long as he known her, even though it may have been for a short time, he had never scene her cry nor beg to anyone. He wondered if she was still alive. No, I would have sensed her ki sometime Gohan thought. Then he released a heavy sigh, reaching up to rub at his face.
"This is the 5th time this week," he told himself angrily.
"It's all my fault, if I had been stronger I would have been able to save her! The way she looked at me, pleading to save her…"Gohan looked down, his eyes starting to water,
"It should have been me taken away not her…" as that was said he heard the soft sound of a bang.
Sighing he tossed off his covers, slipped on his slippers, and tiptoed out the door.
Floating down the stairs he saw his younger brother, Goten, a GIGANTIC sandwich in hand.
"Hey, Gohan" Seventeen-year-old Goten murmured, then proceeding to take a monstrous bite out of his sandwich.
"Can't sleep?" he questioned, grabbing a sandwich out of the fridge, then sitting down beside him.
Goten looked up at him, studying his face in the dark, "Not exactly...I was just...hungry, that's all." Gohan smiled, exhaustedly.
He had to admit, the past thirty minutes wasn't much of his hour of sleep. And he'd usually use up all the time he gets. "I couldn't sleep either," he replied, turning to the clock that signaled passed 3 A.M.
He turned back to face Goten, who had his head against the wall behind him.
"Do you ever feel like it was you fault?" Goten asked, softly,
"I feel like it's my fault. For not saving her"
Gohan stayed quiet for a moment, then muttered, "I know what you mean I just keep on seeing it happen over and over again in my dreams...wait not dreams, nightmares"
Goten lifted his head up to look at his older brother in the eyes, "You have that nightmare too?" he asked, then he lifted his drink and through it back, downing it with one swallow.
Goten gasped slightly with the effort, wiping away the excess from his lips and chin with the back of his hand.
"Yes, the dreams start out fine at first but as it goes on it turns horrifying" Gohan exclaimed, sliding his hand through his hair.
Goten nodded in agreement, "I know what you mean bro. That's the actual reason I woke up tonight" Gohan rubbed his temples lightly, then shook his head,
"Come on Goten, we better gat back to sleep before mom catches us" Goten nodded, squeezed the soda can in his hand until it crumpled (which happened in a matter of seconds), and tossed into the trashcan.
Yet another night of no sleep as that was thought the sun rose, and a new day started.
