Chapter 2 - summer vacation

It was summer vacation time a wonderful period to recover from the school year away from the pencils, the books, study halls, and long term assignments. It was a kid's free period to goof off and hang with friends. But not for me.

For me summer vacation was just a time of reflection where I would try to become one with my aura or spirit. It was a relaxing thing to do just to sit in the mists of Mother Nature's creation, but I preferred the trees high above the world of reality. Lost in an unending fantasy where every thing came together in harmony. Once transfixed in this other realm my mind would ask questions that most never think of any more. Questions which if asked in this time era would be looked upon as stupid or irrelevant to that day's subjects (which mainly included fashion and how cute someone's butt was).

One compelling question in my mind was why I didn't feel right in the harsh world I knew so little about, and why when I close my eyes I could almost see a faint picture in the back of my head. It seemed to call to me but I could never understand its meaning. I find things to this nature quite hard to comprehend.

June was speeding by quickly and as each day went by my spirit soared and I learned happiness once again. Days would start off in a great leap and then progress down to a swift jog, as I grew tired. Every thing was going great.

June the twenty-sixth came and I woke up at seven AM. I couldn't believe it. Me the girl that could sleep four days straight and then still be sleepy woke up that early. Now there was a miracle. I dressed in blue jeans and a lime green shirt that tied around my neck. My hair glimmered in the morning light as I brushed it, and put it into the half pony tale as normal. As the finishing touch I stuck my silver hoop earrings in my ears. I was now ready to face the day.

The old wooden staircase creaked under my weight as I hurried down them. Down the hallway I picked up my purse and when into the kitchen. Mom was rushing around like a maniac (I wondered what had gotten into her?) I walked up to the table my breakfast was laid out for me. Eggs, toast bacon and a glass of milk. I not being a morning person wasn't hungry.

"Eat up Akino your going to need it today," mom called from the kitchen. I looked at the food eerily something just wasn't right, but I didn't want to hurt her feelings. I grabbed the hot toast and dropped back on to the plate burning my hand. I tried again this time grabbing it with a napkin and stuck it (wrapped up) in my purse. I'd eat it later. Hearing my little mishap mom came to the kitchen doorway.

"Not going to eat?"

"Right now? No, I said answering my own question. I'm going to take the toast with me"

"Well at least drink the milk." I glance at the glass of milk and then back at mother. She stared sternly as my hand clasped the smooth glass and pressed it to my lips. I repeated this short process until the milk was gone. Mom then and only then returned to the kitchen.

"I'm out of here," I called ", be back later."

"Alright! Don't be out to late!"

A perfect day there was nothing wrong. The sun was out and the salty wind blew soft and gentle. The dew on the grass shimmered under the sun's rays as I strolled down the sidewalk. I could smell the aroma of freshly baked bread wafting from the bakery and the fragrance of Mrs. Smith's roses. It was a great day leading to a great future.
