[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
As Ami and Rei leave the mall they notice it was very dark outside. The girls begin walking to the bus stop so they can catch the same bus they took back home.
“Wow time sure flies when you're having fun.” Rei said in a charming pitch.
“Yes we did have lots of fun today.” Ami responds, agreeing with her.
“It's already dark outside. What time is it anyway?”
Ami looks at her watch. When she saw the time, Ami begins looking worried. “Oh! No! It's 8:50PM. The last bus might have came fifth teen minutes ago.”
“What time was it suppose to come?”
“8:35PM.” Ami answered.
“Maybe the bus didn't come yet. Lets wait here awhile and see okay?”
“Sure why not.” Ami agreed because she wanted to please her friend, but deep down something told her their bus had already come, and as time went by, Ami's theory proved to be correct. Many other buses came, but none of them was the one they were waiting for.
Rei getting impatient gets up from the waiting bench and starts to pas back and forth. “What time is it now?” Rei asked her friend in a grumpy voice.
“9:15PM.” Ami said looking tried from waiting.
“I guess we really did miss it then” Rei concludes sadly.
“That means we're stranded. What are we going to do?” Ami asked now starting to look a little scared.
Rei goes and sits next to her friend. She puts her hand on Ami's shoulder to calm her down. “Don't worry. I know this town like the back of my hand. All we have to do is take a quick short cut through some neighborhoods; we will get home. It might take us maybe two to three hours at most, but if we keep going we'll make it.” Rei finished with a smile on her face.
When Ami saw Rei's smile, she smiles herself. “Well, I guess we have no choice.” Ami simply answered. Both girls picked up their things and started to leave the mall area. As they left out of sight from the mall, a bus shows up at the stop they were just at a second ago.
“Damn, I hope I don't get fired for showing up so late.” The bus driver says looking around to see if there was anybody waiting. “Blah, there's nobody here anyway.” The driver concludes as he pulls from the bus stop and drives away from the mall.
Both girls were now on the main sidewalks as Ami followed behind Rei, because her friend was the one who knew where she was going. Both girls finally reached the neighborhood area, but they were still miles away from where their houses were. Rei turns then starts to walk down an alley. Ami not liking the neighborhood she was in decides to ask Rei a question.
“Rei do you think this area is safe?”
Rei turns around and sees Ami's worried face. “Sure this is the short cut. Walking through here will cut an whole hour off of our time.”
“But it looks like a rough area. I think we should stay on the main streets.”
“Don't worry. Look, the sooner we get through this place, the faster we'll be home. Okay?”
“But… fine let's just hurry.” Ami says giving into Rei's logic.
The girls start walking down the alley. So far everything was going fine. Besides a couple of barking dogs from some of the backyards, there was nothing to dangerous going on. After twelve minutes both girls safely made it out of the alley. They turn to go back on the main neighborhood sidewalk, but stop when they see something, or rather someone standing there. The guy didn't notice either of the girls. He looked more like he was waiting for someone.
Rei notice the guy's good looks from the moment she saw him. That's why she stopped.
“OH! MY! GOD! Do you see him Ami? What a hunk.”
Ami looks and sees the guy her friend is talking about. Agreeing with Rei, Ami responds. “Yes. He is easy on the eyes.”
“Man, I'm going to go talk to him. Maybe he can walk us home the rest of the way. Wouldn't that make you feel much safer?”
“Well, I don't know Rei. He might not want to be bothered.” Ami said shaking her head.
“Nonsense Ami. He looks nice enough. Besides this guy might be the man of my dreams”
“Oh, brother. Whatever lets just go home and forget him. Now is not the time for this.”
“Never look a gift house in the mouth Ami. I'm going to talk to him.” Before Rei could hear Ami's protest she starts to walk towards the guy. She stops, however, when she sees other guy show up. Both guys where talking, so Rei decided to wait. She didn't want to interfere with what ever the handsome guy was saying to the not so good-looking one. As Rei and now Ami watch the two men. What they saw next shocked them. Two other guys came into view of the two girls. Each one was carrying a side of a guy who was beaten badly and bleeding all over the street. The guy Rei thought was a hunk suddenly had an evil twisted smirk on his face. Since the girls were a little bit closer now to the men thanks to Rei, they both could now understand what the guys were saying.
“Here he is boss. The asshole who thought he could cheat us and skip town with our money.” One of the goons carrying the man said.
The man though beaten, still was aware of his surrounding. When he heard what the goon said, he quickly started to deny it.
“NO! THAT'S NOT TRUE!” The victim screams. “I WAS GOING TO PAY YOU TODAY SHADOW HONEST!.”
“AH! SHUT UP!” The man standing beside the handsome man, who the guy called Shadow says. He walks up to the guy, and then punches him in the face.
Rei and Ami witness this and jump a bit when they see the impact the punch makes when it connects to the guys face.
“You weren't going to do shit. Shadow let me kill this punk.”
“No! Wait a second.” Shadow finally speaks in a soft, kind, voice. “Adam do you have the money on you now?”
“Yes! Yes! I do!” The victim named Adam answers quickly.
“Then where is it?”
“It's in my left pocket, all of it.”
“Check it out.” Shadow says to one of his goons.
The goons obeys and digs into Adams left pocket. Sure enough, there was money totaling five hundred dollars in the guys pocket. The goon pulls the money out, then goes and gives it to Shadow. Shadow counts the money; he has a pleased look on his face when he counts the full amount.
“Five hundred dollars. I guess you were going to pay me after all Adam.” Shadow says looking at Adam with a charming smile.
“Yes boss I would never hold out on you. Please let me go?” Adam sees Shadows smile grow brighter and thinks he may make it out of this alive.
“Normally I would Adam, but there's one problem. You see you took way to long playing me back. Your deadline was Friday June 7th, now it's Saturday July 1st. How do you expect me to just let you go after making a fool of me like this?”
“But, I didn't have the money then, I needed time to get it. Please Shadow I meant no disrespect.” Adam pleaded.
“Maybe not Adam but you see, it's not what you intended that makes me worry. It's what other people will think that has me concerned. If word got out that I let you go after you took so long paying your debt to me, people might start to talk. They might say that Shadow is getting soft. Soon more and more people will take long paying their debts, because they think I will give them a pass like you're asking for right now. Right guys?”
“Right boss.”
“Can't show weakness.”
“Just kill the miserable fuck.”
“You see?” Shadows smiles brightly “The verdict is in.” Shadow's charming smile, now an evil smirk again. “Ice let me see your gun?” Shadow asked the guy next to him.
“HEH HEH! Sure boss.” Ice digs in his back pants pocket and pulls out a 9mm handgun with the safety taken off. He hands the gun over to Shadow who takes it. Shadow then walks up to Adam and points the gun at his forehead.
Ami sees what's happening and panics. She puts her arms around Rei's shoulder and tries to pull her away from the scene, but Rei just stands their looking in awe at what's going on.
“Rei we have to get out of here.” Ami whispers, but Rei doesn't hear her. She just stands there looking.
“No! SHADOW PLEASE?! WE GO WAY BACK!” Adam pleaded shaking and moving trying to get himself free, but the goons had him wrapped up tight around his arms.
“The past is the past my dear friend. Now you're just an example to all the other fools who try and cheat me.”
“But I di. . .” Before Adam could finish, Shadow pulls the trigger. The bullet enters Adams skull, then exits through the back of the head exploding it. The goons drop his body before a huge gusher of blood starts to leak out from the back of his head on to the concrete street.
For both Ami and Rei, what they just saw happened in slow motion. Rei couldn't believe what she just saw. The same guy she thought was her dreamboat; turned out to be a cold blooded killer and she witness the whole thing. Before she knew it, she was about to scream. Luckily Ami put her hand on Rei's mouth to keep the scream from escaping. Unluckily, the little bit of noise that did escape her mouth was enough to alert the guys of their presence. They all turned around and looked in their direction.
“WHAT THE FUCK!” The one called Ice said. “HOW LONG WAS THOSE BITCHES THERE?!”
“I DON'T CARE GET THEM!” Shadow said screaming for the first time. The goons started to run in their direction.
