Serena was in the elevator to Darien's apartment when her communicator beeped. Sighing softly she stepped out on his floor and fished it out of her purse. Ami's face came into view and she smiled.
“Hey, what's up?”
“We think Queen Beryl might be trying to open a portal into this world in the park near me. My instruments are going nuts, most of the readings are off the charts.”
“Well that would be the way to do it, I guess.”
“Serena?”
“Superior numbers. Before she didn't have the power to send volley after volley at us. Now she's been gathering her strength for weeks. I'll meet you there, and Ami, be careful.”
Serena signed off and hobbled as quickly as she could to Darien's door. She knocked hard, hoping he was home. He opened the door and smiled, but the look faded at the look in her eyes.
“Beryl is moving we have to go.”
He ushered her inside where she dropped her crutches. He pulled out a rose as she transformed. Her ankle was still tender so he lifted her in his arms as he walked to his balcony. From there he jumped. Serena relaxed in his arms as they practically flew toward the park. They landed just outside and he put her down.
“Endymion, wait.”
He turned to look at her. “There's no time…”
“Go back.”
“What?”
“Go back. I don't want you or any of the others to get hurt. Send the other Scouts away when they get here, please.”
He reached over and stroked her cheek gently. “I cannot leave you to face this alone.”
“I am never alone, so long as I know you love me. Now please, I can't do what I need to to stop this. You can't be there.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the rainbow crystals. “Take these then. I don't know what you can do with them, but I have a feeling you'll need them.”
She nodded and leaned forward placing a soft kiss on his lips. “I love you. I'll be back.”
He watched as she limped into the woods. A few minutes later the rest of the Scouts appeared. Mars slid to a stop. “Tuxedo Mask, what are you doing here?”
“I'm here to stop you.” He turned to face them. “She has to do this alone.”
Mercury stepped forward. “But there is a gate to the Negaverse forming over there, what can she do about that?”
He felt his heart squeeze. What was she facing alone? “She will fight, and win, but she has to do it alone. If she is distracted, they will kill her.”
