Chapter 6
“Scarred”
Later that night...
Usagi sat in the waiting room of the hospital drinking warm lemon/honey tea. In her mind she could see him, twice as tall and twice as big as Mamoru. Just the mask, only two small holes for the eyes, just the eyes. Two cold, relentless, fear inspiring, eyes. His voice, a low, calm, deep voice. There was no sarcasim, or ego to understand or tolorate... just his voice. She remembered just after the loud bang, how he just lead her around, with a tight clasp at the back of her neck. She was walked down to the car and thrown in the trunk, like a peice of luggage. Then just the solitude, no light, nearly no sound, and no one to help her. Why he came back to tell her where Mamoru left her even more confused. When she saw what had happened to him, she cryed silently. To shocked by the degree of his injuries to cry outloud. Minako and Makoto were also in the waiting room with her. Injured but not as bad as the others.
Minako went into a kindda sub-coma, stairing blankly out a window. She sat awkwardly from the cuts, bruses, and the bandages. Always the opptimist and the life of the partly with her friends. She always had a smile to cheer up everyone's day. Even during the old times, with the Dark Kingdom. Many of the yoma that were sent aginst them, and at innocent people were hard, but they always came out on top. Today was no reason to celebrate even surviving. He left on his own, just as if to prove he was better than them. It mattered too much to her, she was fighting the entity. How could any of them fight something that was just as strong, if not stronger, than the man in the ski mask? She couldn't help but feel there was something else. Not something missing, or maybe there was, but just this wierd feeling she had. The same one you'd feel seeing something to strange to look at, but you don't turn away from it.
Makoto sat quietly as well. She would have liked to offer words of praise or comfort or even reassurence, but how could she, espically after how she let everyone down? She was Sailor Jupiter, whenever her friends needed her strength, she was there to offer all she could give and even more if she had to, but she was confronted a strength greater than hers. Even when she was able to disarm the assaliant of his weapon, it seemed to only make things worse, as if provoked. Her honed skill as a martial artist, and her above avarage strength were always enough to give her friends the winning edge aginst everything the Dark Kingdom had thrown at them. Tonight, she was proved wrong. How could she lose? She had lost before, but that was just because of wrong timing, a misplaced step, or misplaced judgement. But this wasn't even a fair fight, even with the five of them working togeather as they always did, he completly dominated the fight. How could she, or any of the others not even hurt him?
Haruka and Michiru would be out by tomarrow morning, but that would still only be the five of them. Ami, Rei, Setsuna, and Mamoru were serioulsy injured and would have to remain in the hospital for several days or even weeks. Ami had a mild cuncusion, and a dislocated shoulder. Setsuna was a little more worse off than Makoto but it was enough to keep her down and out.
Rei got it real bad though. She had lost over two pints of blood, a few of the small bones in her right wrist were broken, and a hair-line fracture on her right shin.
Mamoru however was even worse, he didn't lose much blood, but his three lower left ribs cracked apart, the joint of his jaw was dislocated, a few of the mussles in his back were somehow tore away from there foundation from his back, the lining of his stomach was torn. The lest of his problems was the long sixteen inch, dark purple and green rimmed bruse along his chest.
Haruka heard the news about half an hour ago, and that really ruined any chance of getting much needed sleep. Someone stronger, and fiercer than anyone they knew of from the Dark Kingdom. It would be the one thought that would keep her up for the next nine hours until dawn.
(What's going on...) Haruka thought.
(Everything was fine, we not even supposed to have our last battle till later when Neo Queen Serenity will rule the world. We...) Then it hit her.
(We didn't fight it. They waited for us be away from each other. Oh great, alot of good that does us. It'll still only be the five of us when we get out tomarrow, but if that thing and the guy can fight five of us that easily, we're going...oh yeah...four us of are still laid up in here.) She turned her head to face Michiru, sleeping peacefully, unaware of the events that had just occured. Now that she had time to think about it, only Usagi had avoided being hurt in anyway. Well, she wasn't hurt physicaly anyway.
She thought back on her vow. Those people who were killed in the bus a few days ago by the monster.
(If five of us couldn't even hurt one of them, how in the world are we going to confront that beast if we find it?) From what she heard, the thug was inhumanly strong, and could shrug off Pluto's Dead Scream attack head-on.
(If he can do that, then our attacks woulden't do much more.) What a sobering thought. A heavly armed gun-man with the morals of the local yakuza.
(Hmm... I wonder if he is a part of them?) IF that was true than he wasn't any better than the rest of them, and he'd be rendered helpless and worthless if she could just find a brief moment to dissarm him. Then he would be just the same kind of coward the rest of them were by themselves.
Hours passed throught the night with no rest ahead of her, and eveantually her maind drifted back to there home. At least what was left of there home. She recalled the entity... the way it entered their home and proceded to destroy everything, and themselves if they haden't ran.
That Morning.
Ami's mom was there to pick her up, and gave she the full nine yards of spoiled treatment. They were going home and she was going to make sure Ami got the decient rest she needed. On their way home they stopped for ice-cream, and her own mother insisted on buying the most tooth roting item in the store that would make her happy. Ami however had other things running in her mind. She made her mom happy and bought an ice-cream cake, with some extra ribbons of carmel, and chocolate.
It was one thing when shew got hurt before, but how on earth was she going to explane to her mother how she got hurt in this way?
Haruka and Michiru were already out of the hospital doors and were headed to a hotel, until they could find another apartment to live in. Michiru had some time to think. Neither herself or Haruka could come to help, and that depressed her feelings. All the times they could help, but last night was played dirty. From what she understood, the enemy was practicly like a ghost, as was the entity. A fearless, relentless, sadist. But if the both of them wern't of the Dark Kingdom or anywhere else, then what were they?
(The Entity. It was there too, and it as well must be purged from humanity.)
Haruka's mind at this point was closer to a blank chalkbord filled with broad stroked writings. She was aware of everything around her, but not quite -here- so to speak. They stoped at a traffic light and idled there... Haruka's eyes jolted from one side of the street to the other. Everything was normal, everything was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. Her view shifted when she began trying to... not exactly look at
something, but looking at the space in-between things. Yesterdays attack in their home was fresh in her mind and wouldn't rest.
(What if? It could be anywhere. It could be preparing it's next attack. It could be resting. It could even be right beside us, and I wouldn't even know it.)
The light turned green, and they were off.
The saddest part of it all though was Usagi. Even through she wasn't hurt, there wasn't a single family member she could spill her tears to. She couldn't tell them how badly Mamoru was hurt, or even why for that matter. The fight would have to remain a loss, a secret, and silent. Only her friends shared the wounds and memories of last night. Makoto came around behind her and pulled a chair next to her. She still wasn't to sure what she was going to say, but anything would be better than nothing.
"Hey Usagi." She said warmly. Usagi tilted her head slightly towards her friend. Now she felt kindda alone, she would've like to make her smile as she usually did, but all she could see were strems of tears, audible huffs and sniffling.
"Usagi, I can't fathom how you must feel right now, but you must be strong for him."
"But, we lost. He hurt all of you and.."
"And we'll hurt him back. Nobody can just mess with us. We've worked this hard to bring peace this far, but it'll be waste if we let them get the best of us."
"What if they come back? What if they were to come at us again? Haruka and Michiru barely just got out here, and Setsuna is still recovering. They can't fight the way they are now. You, and Minako are the only one's who would be able to fight back."
"And you. Remember? That guy suprised you from behind because he's afraid of the kind of power you have. The kind of power that will stop him."
"Really?"
"Really. You just have to remember, we'll fight'em, and you'll stop'em. After that, everything will be the way it was before, and he'll nothing but a bad memory, and only a memory."
"hmm... but."
"No buts, just trust us. We'll win this, you're the future queen of the world. We've all seen it with our own eyes, and we all know it's going to happen. So what if these guys showed up? We're going to win."
Finally her hard work paid off and Usagi smiled. Tears continued to run down her face, streaking quite a bit of her makeup, but in a good way, at lest she was smiling.
"I'll be right back."
"Okay." Makoto got up and out of the waiting room, across the hall and into the ladies restroom. Makoto ran the cold water and splashed water in her face.
(Yeah, great speech, you made her happy, but who the hell am I kidding? It's either going to be all of us, or we don't have a chance. Setsuna might be out by tomarrow or the day after, Haruka and Michiru are going to need at lest a few days to recover after their encounter. We can forget about Rei and Mamoru. At best, it'll take at lest a month before they'll be back on their feet.)
Later Afternoon
Haruka and Michiru were in their hotel room for the time being, until they could find another apartment. While Michiru was in the shower, Haruka was in a different state of mind. She proped a kitchen chair aginst the door knob for a little extra security, and proceded to pace the room with her footsteps matching her heart-rate. She had circled a chair more than a dozen times, stopping every once in a while to look outside the window. She finally sat down, then got back up and walked to the mini fridge and reached for a chilled mocha, then she put it back in the fridge. She reached in the upper cubbard for a cup and filled it with water and gulped it in one swift motion. She refilled the cup and set it on the counter and sat at the courner of the bed. She stood up again and walked over just outside the shower. She heard Michiru humming to herself. She turned around and went back for the cup of water she left, and drank it. She sat down again and turn on the TV. She flipped through a few game-shows a few cartoons, some forgien movie channles, a sports station, then she turned it off. She got up and walked over to the window to see outside. Somewhere along as she zoned out, Michiru was standing in a bathrobe and saw the raised awareness in Haruka. She looked to the side and saw the chair aginst the door and looked back at her. She could tell how worried she was, and this time it was bad. She had never gone to such lengths before.
"Ruka?" She turned to see the voice of her lover."
"I'm sorry, I've... never been like this. It's... just so, I don't know, strange."
"It's okay. Things will get better."
