Chapter 1- Serena and Darien:...I Saw Your Face
They were standing near the river at the park, looking at the stars.
Darien held Serena close to him and marveled how lucky he was. Ever
since the Starlights left with their princess, he'll never forget
the look on Seiya's face when Serena said they were friends forever.
'He loves her,' he thought, 'and she never knew and still doesn't.
All that time she spent with him, and she never got a clue.'
Giving Serena a loving hug, he kissed her forehead. 'She waited for
me this whole time even though I was dead.' He held her tightly. 'I'm
never leaving her side again, ever.'
Serena lifted her head and gazed into his eyes. "What are you
thinking of, Muffin?"
"I was thinking how much I love you," he replied, caressing her cheek
with his finger.
Burying her head into his chest, Serena hugged him closer to her.
"Oh, Darien, when I found out you died, I felt there was nothing to
live for anymore."
"SShhhh," he murmured, quietly, lifting her head with his hand to
gaze into her deep blue eyes. "I'm here now, thanks to Chibi-Chibi."
She stared at him and smiled, but then made a sad face.
Darien frowned. "What is it?"
Sighing, she turned until she rested against his back, his hands
locked over her stomach. "I know we are destined to rule this Earth
as king and queen, but I can't help feel guilty that we have each
other and the Sailor Scouts don't have boyfriends, not even husbands
in the future."
"Well, how do you know? Maybe they will," Darien said. "It's like
what Sailor Pluto said. We've seen too much of the future already.
Now we can make our own destinies. I'm sure Raye, Amy, Lita, and Mina
will find their soul mates."
Serena brightened up and turned to face him, smiling. "You're right.
We should concentrate on the present and make everyday count."
Holding hands, they stared at each other with tender affection. Then
Darien bent his head, and Serena tiptoed to meet his lips with hers.
As they kissed, Serena's locket began to glow. As they continued to
kiss, it glowed more brighter. As Darien murmured into her mouth, "I
love you," and Serena murmured back, "I love you," an explosion of
light broke them apart. Yelling in surprise, they fell from each
other, landing on their butts.
"Whoa!" said Darien. Then he looked up. "Huh?"
"Wow-some kiss!" gasped Serena, then noticed Darien. She looked up,
also, and was astonished to see her locket floating above them.
"Darien!" she cried, getting up. "What's happening?"
Rising up also, he said, "I don't know!"
The locket floated until it was between them and the riverbank. As
it glowed brighter, a figure began to materialize. Finally, in the
locket's place, a woman appeared wearing a beautiful white gown and
asprouting fairy/angel-like wings on her back. She had a kind and
gentle face and her hairstyle was like Serena's, except it was snowy
white.
Serena whispered in awe, "Mother?"
Darien also whispered, "Queen Serenity!"
The gentle woman smiled. "My dearest daughter. It has been such a
long time. I have missed you greatly." She held out her arms.
After curtseying first, Serena embraced her royal mother.
"Dear prince," the queen said, nodding toward Darien. "It is good to
see you again." Darien made a slight bow of his head in honor.
Then Serena pulled herself away and looked at Serenity. "Why have you
come? Is there trouble?"
The queen shook her head. "No, my darling. I am here to assure you
that each of your Sailor Scouts will have someone in the future. For
you see, their true loves from the past are living here in the
present as you all are." "In the past?" Serena asked. "You mean the Silver Millennium!"
Turning to Darien, the queen continued, "And those men were your
Earth Generals, dear prince."
"I had Earth Generals?" Darien was dumbfounded. "Who are they?"
"I will show you." A flash of light was created from Serenity, and
the three figures vanished from the riverbank.
Darien and Serena found themselves standing in a wondrous garden,
filled with many exotic flowers.
Looking around, Serena questioned, "Where are we?"
"Beats me," Darien replied. "Hey, there's a gardener over there.
We'll ask him."
Approaching the man, Darien tapped on his shoulder. "Excuse me, sir?
Could you please tell us where we are?" But the man said nothing,
continuing on his work as if he didn't hear them.
"Darien, he's acting as if we weren't here," Serena noticed. It was
true for no matter who they try to talk to whoever came walking by,
they were completely ignored.
"My guess is that we are able to observe what's going on, but no one
can see or hear us," Darien concluded.
"You're right," agreed Serena. Then she noticed a secluded gazebo,
nearby. Automatically, she started to walk toward it.
"Hey, Meatball Head, where are you going?" Darien called after her.
"I-I don't know." Serena kept walking. "I've the sense that I've been
here before."
"Really?" Darien ran to catch up with her.
When they arrived at the gazebo, they stopped and waited. Suddenly,
inside of the gazebo, a glow of light appeared and grew into a full
orb, nearly filling the gazebo. It abruptly vanished, and there
stood a young maiden with a crescent moon mark on her forehead. She
was wearing a princess white gown, and her hairstyle was like
Serena's. She had a look of royalty on her face, but when she smiled,
she looked exactly like Serena then.
"Oh, my gosh!" Serena gasped. "That's me!"
"As Princess Serena!" Darien said, surprised. "We must be in the
Silver Millennium." He looked up in the sky and noticed that it was
sunset, and he noticed the moon was barely coming in view. "We're
on Earth! Look, Serena, there's the moon!"
Serena looked at the moon, then back at the princess who started to
leave the gazebo and walk down a path.
"I wonder where she's going?" she wondered.
Darien suddenly remembered what was going to happen. He grabbed
Serena's hand. "Come on!"
As they ran down the path past the walking princess, Serena asked,
"Where are we going?"
"Let's just say I have a feeling I know where the princess is
heading."
Night had fallen, and the moon was in full view. The couple arrived
at a courtyard surrounded by gray stone marble pillars with two
entrances, one leading to the back entry of a castle, the other as
the garden entrance.
Standing behind one of the garden pillars, Darien and Serena watched
Princess Serena arrive and stand behind the pillar opposite them.
Then a man came out of the castle entrance and walked to the
courtyard's center. He was dressed in a warrior prince's clothing,
which was mostly blue, and the armor was gray and black. He wore a
cape which was black on the outside and red on the inside. As he
stood in the center of the courtyard, he stared up at the moon, his
long, black hair locks falling across his forehead.
"Darien," Serena said, quietly in wonderment. "That's you, as Prince
Darien."
Taking her hand in his, Darien said, "Serena, this is the night..."
"...when we first met," she finished.
Squeezing their hands in a moment of joy, they smiled at each other
and turned back to witness their first meeting.
Princess Serena waited by the garden entrance, behind the pillar.
She had heard stories of the brave Prince of Earth and had seen his
pictures. Yearning to get a real look at him, she snuck away from
the Moon in order to meet him in person. She learned that he loved
to watch the moon on certain nights after sunset so she knew that it
was the best time to travel to the Earth.
When he appeared, she gasped and felt her heart pounding. 'He's more
handsome than I expected," she thought. 'How regal he looks! How
noble is his brow!'
Leaning against the pillar, she drew her finger up and down on it and
sighed loudly.
Prince Darien turned his head at the sound, sharply. He noticed a
figure, darting behind a pillar. "Who's there?" he called out. "Show
yourself!"
The princess was embarrassed that she was caught looking at the
prince, but she decided to present herself. Bowing her head, she
stepped from the pillar and stood before the prince. She lifted her
head to meet his eyes and smiled.
When he saw her face, Prince Darien gasped. 'An angel!' he thought.
'Is she for real?'
Noticing the crescent moon on her forehead, he realized that this was
the Princess of the Moon. He had heard stories of Queen Serenity's
gentle and kind daughter, but he never knew that she was so
beautiful. 'How enlightening is her smile,' he thought. 'And her eyes
are so lovely. I'm drowning in them at this very moment!'
Raising his hand, he beckoned her forward. When she stood in front of
him, the prince felt his heart beat so fast as he gazed at her up
close. He offered out his hand, and she took it.
"My name is Darien," he said.
"My name is Serena," she said.
At that moment, they knew...

An explosion of light occurred. Serena and Darien found themselves
back at the river bank. They stared at each other in wonderment.
"I remember it so well," Darien started, reaching out to caress
Serena's cheek. "We talked about my life on Earth and yours on the
Moon.'
Serena nodded, cupping his hand with hers. "I remember before I left
you took my hand so fast and begged me to return at the same time
each night."
Darien gathered her in his arms and bent his forehead to touch hers.
"We saw each other almost every night," he murmured.
"Yes, and we confessed our love to each other when..." Serena's eyes
opened wide as she remembered more. "Oh, whoa!"
Darien's eyes also widened as he also remembered. "Could it be? How
incredible! We confessed our love when we learned..."
"...that the Sailor Scouts were in love with your Earth Generals who
are..." Serena continued.
"Jedite, Nephlite, Zoicite, and Malachite!" Darien finished.
They stepped away from each other in order to digest what they
discovered.
"The Negaverse generals who worked for Beryl?" Serena was confused.
"How is that possible? It doesn't make any sense!"
"I don't get it either, Serena. They were our enemies. Heck, Zoicite
tried to kill me once."
Serena was thinking. "Hmmmm-wait! Darien, do you remember when I told
you how Nephlite died?"
"Yeah."
"What I didn't mention- because I didn't think it was important- was
that his wounds were bleeding green blood. Do you suppose the other
generals bled green, too?"
Darien thought for a moment. "You may be onto something because when
I confronted Zoicite, I cut his cheek. It bled green!"
"Then those generals were not yours, they belong to Beryl," Serena
figured. "It's possible that they could be clones of the real Earth
Generals!"
"But if that's true, then what happened to the real Generals?" Darien
asked.
"Don't you remember that Queen Serenity said that they're alive and
living here in the present time?" Squealing in delight, Serena jumped
up and down and clapped her hands. "Oooo! This is wicked cool! All we
have to do is find them and then everybody will be with their true
love!"
"Whoa, Serena! Slow down!" Darien placed his hands on her shoulders
to steady her. "How are we going to find them? And, if we do, can we
disrupt their lives just like that, so suddenly? Maybe everyone is
happy with their lives right now."
Serena's face fell, and a sweat drop appeared on her head. "Oh,
Darien, you're right. Maybe they are. I guess we'll let it be.
Hopefully, one day, they'll each find one another."
A light glowed above them, and they looked up. "My locket!" Serena
held out her hand, and the locket settled onto it, still glowing. As
she gazed at its brilliance, Serena recalled how the Silver Crystal
granted her wish of being normal after the battle with Beryl and of
turning Luna into a human girl so she could spend one night with her
space scientist.
Cupping the locket with both hands, Serena silently wished, 'I wish
my friends would find true love and happiness as I have with Darien.'
The locket glowed a bit more, then faded to nothing. As Serena
adjusted the locket on her school uniform, Darien placed his arm
around her shoulders. "Come on, I'll take you home."
Together, they left the park.
Queen Serenity watched them leave as she hovered up above in the air.
"My dearest daughter," she said, lovingly. "Your wish will be
granted. With the help of your prince, you will reunite your Scouts
with his Generals."
Smiling, as they walked further away, she slowly began to disappear.
"I will always be with you, Serena."
Then she was gone.
Standing at her front door, Serena and Darien held each other.
"It's not so bad when we say goodbye for a while," he mumbled into
her hair.
She crinkled her brow as she snuggled closer. "Why?"
"Because when we meet again, it's always feels like the time we first
met." He looked down into her deep blues.
Smiling, she looked up into his sky blues. "I feel the same way."
They kissed, tenderly.
