Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ The Geo-Moon Chronicles ❯ The First Choice ( Chapter 5 )
For the next week, things went that way, Serena and Serenity both got assaulted once a day, and the marines learned the meaning of discipline and what it means to be a guardian. At the end of the week I held a final formation in the docking bay with the Queen, Princess, Admiral, and Command Staff present. "I am very pleased to say that I was way off base when I arrived here. When I arrived, I found a bunch of neanderthals wearing guardian's uniforms, but do you know what I see in front of me today?" I asked.
"Sir, no sir!" They replied.
"I'll tell you what I see, I see a bunch of Guardians in Marines uniforms." I said. "And so, you will all receive your uniforms back when your name is called." I said. I called the names out one by one, and they marched up to the front, saluted and received their uniform. They then returned to the formation. "Now then, you know the drill, one hour, be at the chow hall, in the appropriate uniform, you've earned it. Move out!" I said. They saluted as a group and I returned the gesture and waited until they left.
"Commander James Geo, I can hardly wait for that one year inspection." The Admiral said. "How did you do it?" He asked.
"Simple sir." I replied. "I lowered myself to their level, and in doing so, raised them to mine." He looked impressed.
"Well then, are we back to a regular shift?" Mina asked.
"Absolutely." I replied.
"And no more training exercises?" Serenity asked. I smiled.
"Not for a while, your highness." I replied.
"Good, I was getting tired with pretending to be scared." Serena said.
"You mean, I didn't scare you?" I asked.
"No, Sir James, remember your oath?" she asked. I snapped my fingers and nodded.
"Ah yes, I see. I'm glad that I have your trust, Princess."
"At any rate, I'll be taking my leave now, Commander, and so for one week, you'll be in charge of the MDT, think you can handle it?" He asked.
"I'll give it my best shot, sir." I replied. He laughed.
"I hope not, you'll put me out of a job." He patted me on the back. "Carry on, James." He said walking out of the room. The day proceeded smoothly. Up until after lunch. I was walking back to my quarters when my radio sparked to life.
"Attention all RPU officers, intruder has been sighted entering the north gates and heading for the throne room, over." I picked up the radio.
"Roger that, execute code Beta evasion procedures." I said.
"Code Beta procedures executing, sir." A voice came back.
"Roger that, I'm on my way." I said drawing my side arm. I started running towards the throne room. suddenly a masked figure tackled me from one of the side corridors. I quickly used the momentum to flip them off of me and a few yards away. "Second intruder engaged." I said into the radio. "All units on full alert, this is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill." The alarms suddenly sounded and I rushed at the intruder, a second one appeared behind him and they both rushed at me. A spread eagle kick knocked both of them to the ground. I then rolled backwards out of it and planted a heel in each of their sternums before launching my feet forward, hitting them under the chin and knocking them out. I holstered my gun and proceeded to the throne room, dragging them with me. When I got there, the Queen was being held at gun point by the third intruder. The sailor scouts were all kneeling on the floor with their faces pressed to the tile.
"Hold it right there." The third intruder said. "One more step and I'll pull the trigger."
"Man, I'm just bringing you your trash." I said tossing the other two to the ground in front of him.
"Remove your fire arm and toss it to the ground in front of you."
"You can't be serious, do you know what this gun is?" I asked, pulling it from it's holster. "This is a classic forty five millimeter, semi automatic, chrome plated Beretta! I can't just be tossing this thing to the ground, are you crazy?" I asked. "How about I just put my hands up like this." I raised my hands and fired a shot into the air. Instantly a chunk or plaster from the ceiling fell and hit the intruder on the head, rendering him unconscious. I then holstered the pistol.
"Girls, arrest those two." I said, moving up to the third one. I kicked his gun away and flipped him face up, he immediately pulled his feet up and kicked me off of him, tossing me across the room. I rolled back to my feet in a three point stance.
"You're a dead man." The intruder said.
"It's on, buddy." I replied. We launched at each other in a furious melee of fists, feet, elbows, knees, and just one hundred pure ass whooping. It seemed at first that we were evenly matched. However after only a few seconds, I landed three consecutive punches to the man's face and picked him up, throwing him into the other two, who had just regained their consciousness. I then drew my pistol and the doors busted open with three guardians aiming rifles at them. "You three are under arrest." The sound of applause hit my ears from behind me. I turned to see Admiral Lovette and Queen Serenity stepping out from the back room. The three men removed their masks and stood up joining the applause. I recognized one of them immediately. "Jacob?" I asked. He nodded.
"Lieutenant Commander Jacob Geo, sir, reporting successful mission outcome." He saluted the Admiral who returned the gesture.
"Stand down, Commander, this was a test to see whether or not you were actually ready to assume the command of the MDT in my absence." He said. Amy removed the wig from her head that made her look like Serenity. I pulled my pistol back and re-holstered it.
"Was it necessary to damage the ceiling though?" Serenity asked.
"My apologies, your highness, I assumed that the royal crown was worth more than few bucks of stucco." I said still trying to catch my breath. "Back to your stations, you three." I said. The three guardians saluted and walked off, shouldering their rifles.
"Test passed with flying colors, I might add. Bonus points for selecting a legendary side arm." Admiral Lovette smiled. I straightened my uniform and tightened my pony tail holder before stepping down and saluting.
"Not to mention, sir, that your geometry was dead on." Amy said. "Frightening accuracy, really." She said looking at the ceiling.
"Luck shot." I replied. "It's intention was to distract the intruder long enough to put a bullet through his head, luckily it hit him instead."
"Yeah, really." Jacob replied. "I'll take a headache over death any day."
"Well then, that's my adrenaline rush for the day." I said. I picked up the radio. "Commander Wolfehart, meet me in my quarters in fifteen minutes."
"Yes sir." Came the reply.
"James, I think you should assign guards to relieve the scouts as well." The Admiral said. "all of you, take the day off, you've earned it."
"Thank you, sir." I replied. We did take the day off, Amy joined me in my quarters for a day of rest and relaxation. The rest of the Admiral's leave time was handled successfully as well. A few weeks after his return, the Earth forces negotiated a cease fire with him and the war ended. things were much more boring in times of peace. And then, shortly after my fourteenth birthday, it was announced, Prince Darien had proposed to Princess Serena. A royal ball was to be held in honor of the occasion. I was sent in two weeks before the event to scrutinize every possible aspect of the area, and plan the security accordingly. It was a beautiful location. A large reception hall on the shore line of the Moon's only ocean, more comparable to an overgrown lake on Earth, but for some reason or another they called it the Lunar Ocean. Anyway, I took a satellite map and plotted guard locations. I then called a meeting with the Sailor Scouts, Commander Wolfehart, and three squad leaders in my quarters that evening going over the details with them. The interior perimeter would be lined with ten guards, in full class A uniforms with concealed side arms. The exterior would be patrolled by two teams of two, and finally three snipers would take up posts in the surrounding area. After that we went about setting it up. Sid Steffano, from counter intelligence had his own personal touch added, a set of surveillance cameras that covered every square inch of the facility, inside and out, with three different viewing options, normal, infra red, and x-ray.
After we had gotten it set up, Amy approached me.
"James, you have everything planned out perfectly, except one thing." She said.
"What did I forget?" I asked. "We've got interior perimeter, exterior perimeter, eagles eyes, and...dammit, I forgot to post a naval watchman." I said scribbling a note on my little pad. "Thank you, Amy, I'd be lost without you." I said. She chuckled slightly.
"James, you're lost even with me." She said. "I was talking about a date?" She asked. I looked shocked as she helped me into my dress white uniform.
"Oh man, you're right, I wonder if Mina is busy that night..." I said trailing off, she glared at me and shoved me backwards. Ever since the law had been changed a few months prior, we had been getting closer and closer to each other. It was common for the RPU to spot us together. And the entire outfit had improved three hundred percent. I had even begun teaching them basic Crystalis tactics and techniques.
"You had better watch yourself." She said finally. "You might just get grounded."
"Would you be willing to lower your standards enough to accompany a nasty old war dog like me to the ball tonight, Miss Anderson?" I asked. She smiled and finally looked at me, then down at herself.
"I don't have anything to wear." She said, her face falling. I flipped the blanket up off the bed revealing a gift wrapped box underneath it. "James, you didn't!" She said opening the box.
"You're right, I didn't, Mina picked it out. I just paid for it." Inside was a blue and white sequin evening gown complete with a silver and diamond necklace with matching ear rings and shoes. Her jaw dropped.
"But the ball is in thirty minutes!" She said.
"Well then I guess you'll have to get changed here, the cruiser departs in ten minutes, think you can do it?" I asked. She bit her lip and stared up at me before kissing me.
"Give me five." She replied. She then shoved me out of the room and closed the door. I smiled and turned back to my dresser, opening my jacket and slipping the berretta into the concealed shoulder holster and re-fastening the jacket's front. When I had finished, Amy stepped out of the bedroom wearing the extravagant evening gown and fixings. I was awed, it looked even better on her than Mina had suggested. "I'm ready, Commander." She said, obviously noticing my facial expression. I extended my arm and we walked down to the docking bay arm in arm.
We arrived at the ball and the valet parked the cruiser for me handing me our ticket. We then walked into the reception hall where Admiral Lovette promptly greeted us.
"James! Glad you could...oh my god...is that Sailor Mercury?" He asked, the expression on his face was one of astonishment.
"Yes, sir." She replied smiling.
"Well, well, well, there is a woman behind that warrior's figure." He replied. "James, if I could tear you away from your lovely date, I have some friends here I'd like you to meet."
"Sure thing, sir, um Amy, you don't mind do you?" I asked.
"No, go on ahead, James, I'll be over there with the girls." She said. I nodded and turned around to walk over with the Admiral.
"You ask permission?" He asked me quietly.
"Oh, you know how it is, sir, gotta keep them happy for them to make you happy." I replied. He chuckled and patted me on the back.
"You have got to be one of the happiest men alive, James."
"Thank you, sir, I do believe I am."
"Well then, without further ado, welcome to the smoking section." He said fanning his arms out. I smiled and we both lit a cigarette as a small group of men walked up and blocked my view. "James, I'd like you to meet..." He stopped as I was trying to position myself with a view.
"...Is there a problem?" He asked.
"Um, not really, sir, but I am on the clock." I replied.
"Oh, of course, would you gentlemen mind terribly if we could part the sea?" The Admiral asked.
"Wait just a second." I replied pressing a finger to my ear lobe. "Sid, do you copy?" I asked. His voice was crystal clear in my invisible ear piece.
"Loud and clear." Came the reply.
"Is everyone in position? Status report."
"Snipers in position and accounted for, sir."
"Patrol units hyped, sir."
"Interior perimeter secured, sir." Another voice said, I smiled and nodded.
"Excellent, let me know as soon as the guests of honor arrive."
"Roger that."
"Geo lead, out." I returned to the others. "Sorry about that."
"No problem, Commander, it's nice to know that you're overseeing this operation personally." Admiral Lovette replied.
"No doubt, we all watched that video of you kicking the shit of your older brother, man that's some impressive shit, Geo." One of them said.
"This is Sniper 1, Prince Darien sighted in the receiving area, over." A voice came over my ear piece.
"What?" I asked into the earpiece, "I thought they were scheduled to arrive together."
"Well, sir, the cruiser is pulling away, and the Princess is nowhere to be seen."
"Roger that, moving to intercept." I replied. "Sorry to cut it so short, gentlemen, but duty calls." I said. "Sir." I said.
"Carry on, James." I walked towards the door.
"Man, that guy is a machine." One of the commanders said.
"Seriously, does he have a lazy bone in his body?"
"Well, gentlemen, I think we could all learn something from this, being a workaholic may suck on your personal life, but it does have it's perks." The admiral motioned towards Amy. The others laughed and nodded. About that time, Darien walked in.
"Hey, Darien, what's going on?" I asked.
"Good evening, James, uh, what do you mean?"
"Well, I thought that you and Serena would be arriving together." I said.
"Oh, well we were going to but we had a slight falling out shortly before I left. She started crying and said that she'd be along in a few minutes. She just needed some time to freshen up." He said.
"Nothing serious I hope." I replied.
"Oh no, nothing serious, just a small pre-marital spat, surely you and Amy have experienced the kind."
"Yeah, from time to time." I replied. "Well, sorry to butt in, but you know me, always on the clock." I shrugged.
"That's a good trait to have, Commander, just don't forget to work in your, uh, play time as well." He smiled glancing at Amy.
"I will take your advice into consideration, sir." I replied.
"Good then, well, carry on." He said patting me on the shoulder before walking off. I walked up to Amy and the girls.
"Hey girls, how's it going?" I asked.
"Not bad here, you?"
"Not sure, I just ran into Darien, he came without Serena, said they had a small pre-marital spat, she started crying and needed some time to freshen up before she arrived."
"That sounds like her." Raye said. "She's such a softy sometimes."
"Well, the stranger part about it, was that he called me Commander. Darien never calls me Commander. Has he been acting strange lately as far as any of you know?"
"Not really."
"James, I thought you were off the clock tonight." Amy said.
"Amy, the royal lives are at stake here, and with such a large gathering of prominent social figures, it makes this place a hot spot for crime, terrorism, or any such related action."
"Then you're armed?" She asked.
"I never go anywhere without my side arm." I replied. "You should know this."
"I was kind of hoping that you'd try something new tonight."
"James, this is Sid, do you copy?" My ear piece sparked to life.
"Yeah Sid, what's up?" I replied.
"Serena is still in her chambers sir, it looks like someone else is in there, but there doesn't seem to be any hostility, are you sure that's Darien in there?" He asked.
"I made a visual identification, Sid, though he is acting rather strange." I replied. "any chance it's the queen?"
"Negative, the Queen is her chambers."
"Then let's get some guards down there, backup the door guards and find out who's in there, if it is Darien I want a retinal scan."
"This is Sniper 1, Darien is on the dock, appears to be listening to an earpiece, sir."
"Are you serious?" I asked. "Switch to secure frequency alternator sequence on my mark, now." I pressed a button on my watch. "Status report."
"Snipers copy."
"Interior copy."
"Patrol copy."
"CI copies." Sid replied. "Guards dispatched, fully armed. Looks like it might not be so boring tonight after all, sir."
"Sir, he's still listening to an earpiece, and he's talking back."
"Train snipers, I'm moving to intercept." I unbuttoned the top button on my jacket and reached under my arm, making it appear that I was scratching, when I unfastened the safety strap on my shoulder holster. "We have a possible intruder, disguised as Darien, keep your eyes peeled, I'll be right back."
"James." Amy started, "please be careful."
"Same to you." I said before moving towards the door. I stepped outside and moved over to the dock. I then stopped to light a cigarette. "Hey, Darien, what's up?" He looked surprised to see me and then looked down at his chest, spotting the three red lights focused on his chest.
"Maybe you could tell me." He replied.
"Oh nothing much, just a safety precaution is all. Someone is in Serena's room with her, there's no sign of hostility, and it's not her mother. I'm gonna have to ask you to stay here with me until my men get there to check it out."
"James, the guards are in the room. It is Darien. Issuing retinal scan to both Serena and Darien. Both have passed." He said. I nodded.
"Okay then, thanks Sid."
"Sir, we have him in our sights."
"Don't fire until I give the command." I replied. "so, who are you?" I asked.
"James, it's me." He said taking a step forward. I drew my pistol and took aim.
"Don't bullshit me, Darien is with Serena, they were just retinally scanned, I'm going to ask again, who are you?" He smiled slightly and removed the white dress mask that he wore to special occasions. He had one red eye and one blue eye.
"Before you fire, James. I do have some leverage that you might want to consider." He reached inside his cape, and pulled Amy out. My eyes widened. "Go ahead, check with your interior guard." He said. I raised one hand to my earpiece.
"Interior, do you have a visual on Sailor Mercury?"
"Negative, sir, she disappeared below the head line just a second ago."
"Okay, one of you approach the scouts and inform them not to worry, the situation is contained."
"Roger that, sir." The guard replied. The Darien look alike smiled.
"And so the plot thickens, but that's not all." He said. He held Amy out at arms length and a ball and chain appeared, attached to her legs. "This ocean is twelve feet deep right here at the dock level, James. But do you want to see something else?" He reached in to his cape again and pulled Serena out with the other hand with the same fixings, and held her out to the opposite side. "Which one will you save, James?" He asked. "I'll ask you to pick immediately, because in five seconds, I'm dropping them both."
"Patrol units, back up required at the dock, Serena has been taken hostage."
"On our way, sir."
"Interior guard, let no one through that door, including the Admiral. If he asks why, tell him it's a matter of security and that I'll be there shortly."
"Roger that, sir."
"Time's up." He replied releasing them both.
"Open fire!" I said. Three sniper rounds shot through his body, causing him to dance slightly. I ran forward unleashing four rounds into him before diving into him and taking him under with me. I then released him and turned to grab Serena. I moved quickly and fired an energy blast severing the chain around her legs and pushing her up to the top of the water. The guards hoisted her up and I moved for Amy. I quickly fired another energy blast at her chain, breaking it, but because of her dress being so tight around her legs, she wasn't able to swim up to the top. I started to move towards her but was grabbed from behind, suddenly. I delivered two sharp elbows to the person behind me knocking them away before flipping over and launching two energy blasts into what then appeared to be the Admiral. He shot out of the water and flew backwards at an alarming rate. And when I turned around, Amy was grabbing her throat. I quickly swam up to her and opened her mouth blowing fresh air into her lungs. I then swan up to the surface and gasped for air.
"Sir! We've secured the princess sir."
"Good, form a complete shield around her and let no one through! I don't give a damn if God walks up to you and says I need to see the princess, you deflect any and all attempts to make contact with her." I took in a deep breath of air and went back under. I gave Amy another shot of air then forced her up to the surface. She quickly grabbed the dock and pulled herself up. After she was pulled up I looked around in the water, there was no sign of anyone ever having been there. I then shot up to the surface and was helped up to the surface by Darien. I collapsed to my hands and knees breathing heavily, my eyes wide open trying to recap on what had just happened. When I looked up and saw Darien standing there with a face mask on I quickly shot to my feet and pointed to him. "I want a retinal scan right now!" One of the patrol units walked up and scanned him.
"Sir, he's legit, sir." The guard replied. "Sir, the interior is reporting that Admiral Lovette is demanding an explanation." I nodded.
"My earpiece must have shorted out, tell them to let him, and only him pass, and give him my location."
