Kaoru stared off into the distance, the cold wind slapping across her cheeks and the cold and blocked sun her only light. She was to arrive at the trials today. Only 30 more minutes. She ran and ran, the cold wind slapping against her small frame. She arrived at the palace with her pass. She stared at the group of men. They were of all sizes, big, tall, small, and fat. She was the only girl there it seemed. A flicker of gold eyes and red hair appeared. His brows rose when he saw her and he grinned. He was breath taking it seemed, there was this cold and fire hot arrogance, confidence, and mocking air about him. He was only about a few inches from her though. He was small but his presence demanded attention itself.
She smiled at him in a cold gesture and walked away from his line of vision. The trials were starting. Only a few signed up as most of the people here were invited to enter. She was number 10, in the 3rd box of the 10th round. She went to watch the battle and it seemed everyone weak until the man with golden eyes stepped up. He was lightning fast. He was also predictable in a way. His one weakness was that if you predicted that he was going to predict you, you would win.

The battle went on and she won her battles. Everyone was easy; it was just the man with red hair that she had to watch. She eyed him warily. “What's your name, little girl?” Her eyes narrowed, gold clashed with gold, amusement and enjoyment met cold disdain and indifference. “My name is of no importance, Battousai!” Then she disappeared and did the Sukuchi on him.

That caught him off guard, no one suspected him to be the Battousai. Of course, no one knew that he was also the Prince's brother. He was of little importance. He predicted her next attack and the strangest thing happened. The blow never came from the left, rather from the right. He was thrown back. He had been studying her, and decided she was of no importance. Then she went off and did something like that, it seemed he underestimated the brat. She could be no older than 17. She was smarter too. They were evenly matched and they fought for at least another two hours. The crowd was cheering them on, the noise was unbearable, the smallest of wind hurt the ears, but Kaoru and Battousai were so heated in their battle, so intense their gaze upon their opponent, so passionate in their attack, so fierce in their love for the game, the hunt. “You're really something you know,” he said before Battousai laid down his sword. “You passed the test.” The crowd went quiet as Battousai, “This is the winner. She has passed her test.” Then everyone left.
Kaoru met with the informant and was told that she would have a room of her own, and would start working tomorrow. She called for a warm bath and bathed.

Battousai met his brother's eyes and said, “The new body guard is very skilled. Don't underestimate her.” Kenshin smiled. Battousai knew his brother was very bothered. They had become very distant ever since that day.

~~~~~~Flashback~~~~~~~
“Tomoe!” Kenshin cried her name out as he thrusted into her hot and wet sheath. “Kenshin…ohhh” Tomoe cried in earnest, their bodies becoming one. Their bodies soared, their hearts sang to one another. Battousai stood outside their door, listening to Tomoe's cried of pleasure, something he could give her, but it was obvious she loved Kenshin more. It was through him they met. He bit his lip as a pained expression went to his lips as Tomoe cried in pleasure once again as she exploded in her organism. His eyes turned a hard glint, his posture stiffened; he tried to calm the beast. Inside he was seething with fury, just like the storm, just like the rain was pounding against the ground. He couldn't tame it as he opened the door and stared at his brother and fiancé. Tomoe yelped and went into the corner as she tried to hide her body with the blanket like she didn't him to see her when he knew every inch. She much preferred Kenshin over him, to let Kenshin touch her and see her when he didn't even get a hello.
He let his gaze go to his brother and violet clashed with gold. He grabbed Kenshin reverse sword and threw at him and went outside. There were no words spoken, only their eyes spoke, only did their rage yell at each other, only did their presence clash together and only did their Ki flame at each other in disgust. Battousai moved first.
They fought for hours, and then days. Tomoe could only stare as the brother fought because of her. She did nothing for she could do nothing. Then they stopped and stared at each other, as the rain still went down their bodies, as their heated gazes pounded at each other. Kenshin fell and Tomoe rushed over to him. Battousai didn't smile as the one he finally trusted and loved went over to his brother. He bit his lip and walked away…
~~~~~~End of Flashback~~~~~~

Kenshin stared at his brother as silence filled their mouths. Life was never the same these days; too much tension and Battousai became more silent, colder, more isolated. He never spoke, he never ate, and he just wandered. But then Battousai fought more than usual, with greater skill and aggressiveness. He usually laughed too only when fighting. He was almost evil and loved the sight of blood now. Something the old Battousai never loved. He'd kill all right, but he didn't glorify in it like he did now, he didn't kill just for the kill now. He would kill for the fun of it.
