LYRICS FROM THE HEART
A Kaikan Phrase/Sensual Phrase Fanfic
Written by Miyu, Vampire Princess
AUTHOR'S NOTES:
I wanted to write a short chapter fic for this fandom. Why this idea sounded better than others, I have no clue. I do hope that you will enjoy the story, though. Comments are encouraged and welcome. A standard disclaimer follows the chapter.
Part One - Missing Words
"She's not here."
"What do you mean 'she's not here'?"
"She's gone."
"Gone?"
"Sakuya, are you even listening to me?"
"Maria's not at home. I got it. What about Yukihiko?"
"Gone."
"Did she leave a note? What about voicemail?"
"Nothing!"
"Is the place cleaned out? Anything missing?"
"We weren't robbed, if that's what you're asking."
"Yuki, look around. See what's missing."
Yukifumi Toudo took a deep breath and did as his friend asked him. He had looked before. He had! In every room, nothing seemed out of place. Nothing touched or disturbed.
"Look in the closet. Open drawers and doors," Sakuya suggested.
With a trembling hand, he reached for the nearest closet door. Holding his breath, he turned the handle. The door open, he noted quickly that everything was where it should be.
On his side of the closet.
Her side had been picked through. Blouses, skirts, pants and shoes were missing. Her suitcase, usually resting on the shelf above the clothes hangers, was also missing.
The same was true for his son's closet. Clothes were gone, and a few of his favorite toys were also missing. Stunned and overwhelmed, he fell to his knees beside Yukihiko's bed.
"She left me."
"Maybe she went on a trip."
"She left me."
"One of her relatives could be ill."
"She left me."
"Shit! Yuki, I'm coming over."
"She...left...me."
Why? The question rang hollow in his head. Why? He had talked to her three or four nights before. The tour would soon be finished and Lucifer would be heading home by the end of the week. He was exhausted, and overjoyed to hear his wife's voice.
Maria seemed excited about him coming home, and they chatted about recent events. Yukihiko was walking now. Not well, but he was learning. And he was speaking much better. Yuki could hear his son calling out "Dada" over and over in the background.
Her classes were almost over and she was looking forward to the break. She wanted to go back to school. For what, she wasn't sure. But he agreed that it would be good for her to do so, and supported her decision wholeheartedly. She was also working part-time at a local flower shop and loved the job dearly. It was time away from home that he knew she needed.
Away from home...something he knew far too much about. Now that his band had gone global, they'd been on the move. Home for a few days, away for weeks at a time. No breaks, no vacations. No chances to spend time with the family he loved so much. With the son who was growing up so fast, or with the wife he could not survive without.
A wife who had picked up and left without so much as a goodbye.
Was she fed up? Was there an article, a picture that upset her? A news report, television appearance or radio spot?
As far as he knew, he couldn't be accused with any wrongdoing. He stayed as far away from the adoring fans as he could. They weren't always interested in him anyway. Most of them came to see Sakuya. Sure he was nice enough when he had to be, but he wasn't interested in them. Any of them.
Maybe Sakuya was right. He could be overreacting. She may have gone to see a relative. Her family, despite previous hardships, was supportive of their relationship. And hadn't she mentioned that her grandfather was not well. Perhaps he was dying, or already dead.
There was still a feeling he couldn't shake. A bad feeling. This wasn't like her. It had to be important. An emergency. That's all he could think of, but he still could not come up with an underlying reason.
With a sense of renewed determination, he left Yukihiko's room and searched for his cell phone. Checked for voicemail and text messages. There were no new messages. And no old messages to give any clues.
Punching three buttons, he called her cell. Why didn't he think of it sooner?! Immediately he was transferred to her voicemail. The phone was turned off. He sighed. It was after two in the morning. With as much calm as he could muster, he left her a message.
"Good morning, love. I just got in and noticed you weren't here. If there's an emergency, please give me call." A pause. "I miss you." Another pause as tears welled in his eyes. "And I love you."
As he ended the call, the tears began to fall. He clutched the phone to his heart like a child with a security blanket. The bad feeling wouldn't go away. Not until he could hear her voice for real. Not until he knew for certain that his wife and son were okay.
He crashed onto the couch, still in tears.
That's where Sakuya found him when he arrived only a half hour later.
