Out Like a Light
“I'm all alone…there's no one here beside me…my problems have all gone…there's no one to deride me. But you gotta have friends—“

“Master, stop it. Hao sounds like he is dying.” Opacho reprimanded me like I was a small child.

“I wish I was dying, then maybe I could forget all this pain…” I moaned back.

“Master should not say such things…Hao needs help. Maybe he should look at other women?” Opacho suggested.

“If I do then I will only be reminded of what I fell in love with in the first place. There's no point anymore, Opacho. I wish it would all just end right now!” I whined.

“God help Opacho. He has become a babysitter. Master Hao needs to get over her. She left Hao, and despite all of Hao's and Opacho's desperate urging, she refuses to come back. Hao must come to accept this as a fact, and move on.” Opacho tried to reason with my lovesick form that was currently lying face down on my bed.

“I will never accept that she chose Yoh over me.” I spat dangerously. “I will kill him one of these days, and I will get Ivy back. I love her, and she will come back to me.” I probably sounded psychotic, but I didn't care. That's how I really felt.

“Hao, do Opacho a favor and go take a long walk. Hao needs alone time to think.” And with that he left.

I looked up at the door as it closed behind my smallest follower. `I do need help…but what can I do? I'll never get over Ivy…she's not something you just get over. I need her to live. Why did I have to mess things up with her?'

I got up out of bed and got dressed (at 3:33 in the afternoon). I walked away from my campsite and into the Patch Village. I strolled past so many different kinds of shops and stands, but saw nothing of interest. Until I came upon a small tavern. I stopped and starred at the door for a while, contemplating if I should go in or not. If I did go in, what would be the consequences? I had no idea; I had had alcohol before, but I'd never been drunk…

“Why not? It might help.” I muttered as I pushed open the bar door.

I ran down the busy Patch street with a definite course in mind. I had to know. To know what he was thinking. He had been acting so strangely. Maybe he really was sick…

I finally came to Hao's campsite after about two or so hours. “Here goes nothing.” I mumbled as I approached the familiar camping ground. “Hello?!!!” I called.

Instant reaction. Everyone flooded out of her or his tent at the sound of my voice. “IVY!!!!” I was pounced upon by all of Hao's followers.

“OHMIGOD!!!! I'm sooooo happy you're okay!!! I was sooo scared that the X-LAWS got you!” Macchi yelled as she jumped up and down hugging me.

“Mari is glad that Ivy has returned to her rightful home.”

“Hmph.” Kanna grunted, putting out a cigarette, “Good to have you back Kid.”

“Opacho cannot believe it! He thought Mistress Ivy was gone for sure!!”

Everyone took their turn saying hi in their own enthusiastic way. After I was finished being hugged, jumped on, greeted, and other wise fondled, I finally managed to ask, “Where is Hao?”

The troupe fell silent as they all looked at one another. No one knew. Then Opacho pushed his way to the front of the crowd. “Master Hao has been very depressed as of late, so Opacho sent him off on a walk. Opacho is sorry. Maybe Mistress will be able to find him in town.”

“All right, thanks Opacho. I'm not stay, guys sorry. I'm staying with Yoh, but I…just had to see if Hao was okay. Aikido said he was acting very strangely. I'll talk to him and then go home. Thanks guys for your help. Goodbye!” I ran off toward the town to search for Hao.

“Goodbye!! Please come back to us!!!” Pretty much everyone called after me.

“She's worried about him…” Kanna smirked.

It took me the better part of six hours to search the whole town, but I still didn't find Hao anywhere. It was 9:30, and I had gotten nowhere. “I need to sit down. I've been searching forever.” I noticed a small bar across the street. I could have sworn that it wasn't there before. “Oh well, it's a pace to rest.” I shrugged as I pushed the door open. `Plus, I've never been in a bar before…'

What I found inside shocked me to no end. “HAO!?” Hao. And he was slobbering drunk.

“Hey, Ivy.” He greeted. “Hey bartender! Get me another Vodka!”

“Oh, no you don't!! You've had enough already!” I shrieked.

“Wow, you actually seem to care. Or is it that you're feeling guilty? Probably guilty; you'd never care for me…Woman, you drive a man to drink.” He slurred his words together drunkenly.

“Oh, my God. Hao, you're even worse off than I thought. Come on, we should get you home…and sober.” I had to admit, I did feel more than a little bit guilty.

“No thanks. I'd rather stay here and give myself alcohol poisoning.” He replied cheerfully.

“No way I'm letting you hurt yourself! I may not like you very much, but like it or not, you're human, and I won't let you slowly kill yourself.” I argued back.

“Stop it, I'm fine—Uhhh…” And he passed out.

I rolled my eyes as I carefully slung him over my shoulder. The bartender stopped me saying, “Hey! You can't just leave! That man has been here since 4 o' clock, and he hasn't paid for his drinks!”

I glared at the uncompassionate man as I used my electrical powers to blow up some glass beer mugs to the right of his head. “I don't see why people would pay to lower their life span and get slobbering drunk. Goodbye.”

I had no idea where to go with him. Hao was out cold. I couldn't take him back to his campsite; it was too far, and I didn't want his followers to see their great leader unconscious because he had one too many drinks. I could take him back to Yoh's place if I snuck him in, but that would be really dangerous. It would be pretty hard to explain why I was carting an unconscious Hao into my room late at night. Yoh's house was infinitely closer though…

Before I could make a final decision, a voice called from behind me. “Give up Hao to us, and we won't harm you. What's your decision, girl? He is an enemy of God!”
