Chapter One: Just a Little Kindness.

She watched the boys every time they came. They came fairly often. After a while another boy started to come, every time he did she felt the urge to run as far as she could, instead she exhausted her aura so she couldn't be sensed. She really disliked the look in the boy's eyes. Luckily, the boy only came once or twice a week, usually when the boys -who's names she had learned from watching them- weren't there.

One night she sat in her tree contemplating something, whether or not it was time to try her luck, again. Her thoughts shifted as she overheard the conversations of other spirits.

"Did you hear? Yoh and Amidamaru are becoming big heroes!"

A grey haired woman that looked to have died in the past hundred years giggled to a younger girl with brown hair that looked to be a noble from the meiji era, "Becoming? They have been heroes my dear!"

A burly man that seemed to have died in a time frame between the two girls laughed, "Yeah! This time it was a huge feat though! They saved some children from a burning building! Risked their own lives too!" "Oh! How I wish I had married a man like them!" The girl from the meiji era said clasping her hands together.

At that time the fox demon ignored the spirits, her thoughts took up all room in her mind.

I wonder if he could help me. She thought solemnly. As she continued to think she didn't notice Yoh and Manta enter the cemetery. Yoh and Manta were walking around and talking to many ghosts, just asking them questions out of curiosity, many times it seemed as though Yoh was flirting with or trying to cheer up many of the younger female spirits.

The fox demon was so caught up within her own thoughts she had floated to the ground, she didn't even hear the loathing words of many human spirits that saw her. Even though she didn't, Yoh Asakura did. She blinked hearing a laid back 'hello.' Looking up she saw Yoh, she tensed heavily till she saw his smile and blinked again. "Hey there, I've never seen you here before." "I can't say the same for you." The coldness in her reply seemed to drown out the cheer of his. He looked at her carefully, and smiled again, "C'mon don't be down!"

Even she couldn't help but crack a small smile, a sad smile, but a smile none the less.

"Yoh! Who are you talking too?" Manta called, his voice grated a bit on the fox demon's nerves. The blonde haired boy walked over to Yoh and immediately paled. "DEMON!" He started screaming and running around in circles. Yoh grinned, the fox demon was giggling, "Baka manta sama."

Manta blinked at her, "You know my name?"

"I'm not deaf, to be exact even a dead Kitsune Youkai can hear the way they did alive." "So that means you can't hurt me?" "If I could hurt you I would have done it already, you scream like a girl. A very squeaky voiced girl at that."

Yoh laughed, "You know what, she's right." Manta sweat dropped. "That's not funny." "Yeah, it's painful." The black eared Kitsune replied. Yoh smiled. "So, What's your name?" She blinked. "My name?" "Yeah." "Oh. Akakitsune." Yoh smiled and held his left hand out. "Nice to meet you!" She raised an eyebrow. I'll humor the boy. She thought. She put her hand out and tensed. I can -touch- him, I don't go through him! Her eyes were wide. "Nani?"

Yoh smiled. "Sorry, I thought you knew I was a shaman."

Before she could reply she was painfully thrown aback. Nani?! She thought as she felt pain. "Amidamaru!" Yoh yelled, trying to stop the samurai.

"Leave Yoh Sama alone, Foul Fox!" The samurai yelled. Aka got up slowly. "Amidamaru no! I reached my hand out to her. She wasn't trying to hurt me!" Amidamaru looked at Yoh. "She will! She's a demon, Yoh sama. Demons exist to kill humans. She must be an especially evil demon is she was damned to being a ghost."

Aka looked down. Her eyes hidden by her bangs. "She could not be stuck here due to the circumstances of her death, demons don't have hearts." He said glaring at her. "How -dare- you say that!" She looked at him with a glare ferocious enough to kill the living. Tears were forming at the edges of her eyes. "I am stuck here due to my death's circumstances. I was murdered in cold blood!"

"And you're here for revenge." He said coldly. "No. I'm here because I won't leave till I find out what I did to upset him!" "Who? Your foul master?" "No you ass! My mate! My mate murdered me for no reason all right?!" She floated back into her tree. She was trying to hide the tears falling down her face.

"Amidamaru!" Yoh said as he saw his friend cross his arms and turn his back. "She's a demon." The samurai replied. "Amidamaru, give her a chance." Yoh said looking at the side of his friend's face. "All right, Yoh sama." Amidamaru turned towards the tree. "I admit that you may not be heartless. But I'm still going to keep my eye on you. If you hurt Yoh sama I will destroy you."

With that said, Amidamaru returned to his memorial tablet. Yoh walked up to the base of the tree. "Are you all right?" There was no reply. "Don't worry. I'm sure you'll eventually grow on him."

"I'm not sure I want too." A shaky reply came. "I've existed fine enough on my own since my death two thousand years ago. I've existed with no one to talk to. I'm sure I can manage a few thousand more years." "You don't have to." Yoh said looking up at the kitsune spirit. "You can come with me. You'll have friends. Me and manta. Right manta?" The straw haired boy nodded. He was shaken but managed to reply. "Y-yeah." The kitsune slowly floated down. Her moss green eyes scanning their faces. "All right. I can always leave when I want to."

Yoh smiled. "Yep."
