Chapter 4: The meetings

A day later after the storm had hit…

It was a beautiful day in the Emerald Hill zone on the South Island. Sonic and his gang of freedom fighters had welcomed Rouge the bat to the gang because she had asked to join the gang after the ARK, which happened a year ago. She was a treasure hunter and a spy from the president of Metropolis City.

"Hey, Tails," called a seventeen-year-old blue hedgehog, walking into his friend's workshop. "Hey, Tails, you in here?"

"Over here, Sonic," replied a ten-year-old orange fox. He was under the Tek-plane, and he pulled himself out from under the plane. His face had oil all over and his arms were covered too.

"What are you doing to the Cyclone?" asked Sonic, giving his little buddy a weird look.

"Oh, just updating her, Sonic," Tails said. He stood up off the ground, helped up by one of Sonic's hands. "Thanks. Well, what do you think of Cyclone 2?" The new Cyclone 2 was indeed updated, but that was not why Sonic gave Tails a weird look.

"Red and yellow, Tails?" Sonic asked, looking at him with that weird look again.

"What?" Tails asked, walking over to wash his hands to get the oil off them.

"Are you trying to tell me something?" Sonic asked, looking at Tails, and he was really trying not to laugh.

"Oh, hey, Sonic, did you hear about Robotnik, how he is going to be a Professor at Emerald Hill School?"

"Yeah, he told me two days ago." Sonic stood still next to the Cyclone 2. He was looking down at the ground, sad.

"What's the matter Sonic?" asked the fox, who was looking at his blue hedgehog friend.

"Oh, Tails, it's Rouge…" Sonic sighed.

"Rouge? How is she?" Tails asked, turning around fast to face Sonic.

"Rouge and Amy are best friends, Tails…" He paused. "Well, I visited Knuckles three days ago on the Floating Island, and he's okay," he paused again this time longer. "And even Dr. Robotnik is on our side now." Sonic sat on a wooden box that was next to the plane "What do I do now? What do I do when the bad guy turns good, Tails? I wish Shadow was here." Sonic sighed, leaning back on the Cyclone 2.

"Oh, Sonic, you'll find something to do." Tails stopped walking and just watched Sonic. He needed to cheer his friend up. "Oh, I have a letter from my cousin," said the twin-tailed fox. He was really trying to get Sonic back to his normal self again. After seeing Shadow the Hedgehog fall into Mobius' atmosphere… Well, that would do that to someone.

"Tails, I didn't know you had a cousin," said Sonic, looking up at him.

"Yeah, she's coming to Station Square," Tails said. He walked over to his desk, and came back with a photo of his family. Tails gave the photograph to Sonic for him to look at.

In the photo there was his mother, father, and a boy about the age of two. His mother was a twin-tailed orange fox, and his father was a darker orange fox. His mother was holding a young Miles Prower in her arms, standing next to his father, a black fox. Standing next to them in the photo was a female white bat that had long brown hair, and she had two kids, two girls. The older girl was a white bat, and the younger was black, half fox, and half bat.

"Station Square? But why there?" Sonic asked, and he suddenly pointed to someone in the photo. "I know her." He showed Tails.

"You know my cousin? Wow!"

"Well, it was four years ago. I was running around trying to find Robotnik's doomsdays weapon. 'Sliver Sonic' and I saw her, a half fox half-bat girl. She was about to be killed by Sliver Sonic, so I had to save her. Oh, and I kicked Silver's ass," Sonic said. He gave the photo back to Tails.

"Did I hear someone say a half fox, half-bat girl being the cousin of Fox boy here?" asked a voice.

Sonic and Tails turned to see Rouge the bat standing at the doorway.

"Yes, Rouge," replied Tails.

Rouge started to walk over to them. "Can I see please, Tails?"

"Sure, Rouge, here." Tails gave the photo to her.

"My sister… But I thought she died!" Rouge said, shocked.

She was about to fall, but Sonic caught her.

"She's your sister? But that makes you and Tails family," Sonic said, shocked. He was helping Rouge to sit down on a chair.

"WOW!" Tails cried, looking at Rouge. "I have two cousins!"

"How are you two related?" Sonic asked.

"Tails' mother had a brother who is my father. His name's Andrew Prower, so that's the connection. Got it, blue? How is Rei, Tails?" Rouge asked, forgetting about Sonic.

"She says in her letter…" Tails' eyes opened wide. "I don't believe it!"

"What is it, buddy?" Sonic asked, walking over to him.

"Rei is coming here to the Emerald Hill zone."

"When Tails?" Rouge asked.

"Two days."

"It will be nice to see Rei again." Rogue looked Tails.

"What happened, Rouge?" Tails asked.

"Our village was attacked by humans, and someone helped me and my parents out. But we couldn't find Rei after that. It was four years ago now, and she now would be seven. I hope she's okay," Rouge said, looking out the window.

At the Temple of the Chaos Emeralds, on the Floating Island, Knuckles the Echidna the Guardian of the Emeralds, sat on the steps, over looking the rest Island.

The red echidna sighed. {Man, I wish something would happen.}

"Hey, Knux!" shouted a voice. Knuckles turned to see a bee flying over to him. {I hate that name.} He thought.

"Charmy, it's been a long time…" He stopped. "How are you and other Chaotix crew members?" Knuckles asked, looking at the bee.

"Well, Knux, Vector, Mighty, and Espio are down on Mobius, so I came here to say, Hi!" replied the over excited bee.

"Thank you." Knuckles said in a sarcastic way. "You don't know how boring being the Guardian of the Chaos Emeralds can get and--" Knuckles was stopped in mid-sentence as he heard a noise.

Both Knuckles and Charmy turned slowly to see Chaos 0, a liquid creator. Its green eyes glowed with anger.

"KKKNNUUCCKKLLEESS!" Chaos screamed.

"Charmy, get out of here, NOW!" Knuckles shouted at the bee.

Charmy looked at Knuckles, and nodded as he flew off, leaving Knuckles at the mercy of Chaos.

Meanwhile, on Mobius, on the South Island in Emerald Hill School, Robotnik walked down the corridors of the small school.

{It's hard to think that all this could have been destroyed by the Eclipse canon,} he thought.

As he walked, he heard someone fighting outside. He walked over to the window in the corridor to see a black and red hedgehog trying to get in the school, but the GUN guards did not let him by.

"I need to see Dr. Robotnik, NOW!" the hedgehog shouted at the guards.

Since the whole ARK thing a year ago, Robotnik had been put under heavy guard by GUN. At the Airport a year ago, Sonic had stepped forward before the president of Metropolis City and asked that Robotnik could have a chance, after being enemies for so long it would finally be at an end.

"Shadow the Hedgehog, well of course he is still alive, he is the ultimate life form after all. He survived the fall to Mobius," Robotnik thought. He made his way to the main door, and walked out side.

"Didn't you hear me? I need to see Robotnik, NOW!" Shadow shouted again, this time angrier.

"Shadow, it's good to see you survived the fall to Mobius," said Robotnik. "But how did you?"

"Cut the talk, Buttink, and come with me now." Shadow's red eyes looked at Robotnik in anger. "We need to get the others," Shadow said forcefully to Robotnik.

Shadow grabbed Robotnik's arm, and held up a ruby red emerald. "CHAOS CONTROL!" He shouted, and the two vanished.

The group had arrived at Station Square.

"It's funny, Tails, to think that Chaos nearly destroyed this place," Sonic said. He walked down the street and next to him was his best friend Tails. "Wait, Tails, where's Rouge?" asked Sonic. He turned to see her.

"Hey, wait up!" said Rouge, exhausted.

Sonic and Tails had gone to the mall to meet Amy and some old friends, and Rouge asked if she could come too.

"It will be nice to meet some of our old friends again," Sonic said, walking down the street to the mall.

"Like the Chaotix crew?" Tails asked, and he looked forward at the mall that had came into view.

"Sonic, Tails, Rouge, over here!" shouted a pink hedgehog.

She was waving to them to come over, and next to her was a green Crocodile called Vector. He was the leader of the Chaotix crew.

"Vector, it's been a long time, huh?" Sonic joked, walking over to meet the three other members of the Chaotix crew.

"Where's Charmy?" asked Sonic, surprised.

"Gone to visit Knuckles," replied a red Armadillo

"Oh, lucky Knuckles," Sonic said, smiling.

Seconds after that, the group heard someone shouting.

"GUYS, GUYS!" Charmy shouted, and he was flying as fast as his wings could go.

"Charmy, I thought you--" Mighty said, but was stopped.

"Knuckles is in trouble!" Charmy said as he landed on the ground, exhausted from flying. "Come on, come on!"

"Knuckles is in trouble? That will be the day," Sonic said in a sarcastic way.

"You should listen to him, Mieko-hoshi." A voice said.

Sonic's face turned pale as he turned to see a white hedgehog with red and black lines down his spikes.

"I know you," Sonic said quietly.

"Mieko-hoshi… Oh, you now go by the name of Sonic the Hedgehog," the white hedgehog said. The others looked at Sonic, and then back at the white hedgehog.

"How did you know my name?" Sonic asked.

He walked slowly out of the shadows and over to the group. "Does it really matter?"

He wore a dark crimson, leather trench coat and dark purple body armour, and he wore grey fingerless cloves, and red shades. Standing behind him was a seven-year-old girl. She was half bat and half fox with black fur.

"Max, look," whispered the young girl, and she was pointing at Rouge.

"Rei, it's me your big sister," Rouge said happily walking over to her, but the white hedgehog stood in her way.

"Stop," the white hedgehog said, who was standing in front of the young girl.

"Who are you?" asked Rouge angrily.

The young girl was looking around, and the white hedgehog at her.

"I am Rei's brother," replied the white hedgehog.

"Rei has no brother." Rouge was now angrier. "I am her big sister, her only family!" Rouge screamed at the white hedgehog.

"Rei, is she your sister?" the white hedgehog turned to the seven-year-old girl, who shook her head.

"No, she isn't, Max," she replied, seeing the hurt Rouge.

{Max, it can't be him.} Sonic thought.

"Max is my brother," Rei shouted at Rouge. "My real family, you all abandon me years ago!"

"To your first question about who I am, I am Matrix, one of the Ultimate Life Forms," the white hedgehog replied with a smile.

"But I thought Shadow was the only one," Espio said, looking at the white hedgehog.

"No, fool!" Snapped the white hedgehog.

"So, you are real," said Robotnik's voice.

The others turn to see Robotnik, and standing next to him was a black and red hedgehog.

"My Grandfather was right, Grey Orin did create you," Robotnik said looking straight at the white hedgehog.

"Shadow, we finally meet," commented the white hedgehog as he walked past Robotnik and up to Shadow.

"Who are you?" asked Shadow.

"Man, I'm really surprised you don't remember me. We both lived on the ARK…" Matrix walked around Shadow looking at him. "Professor Grey Orin created me," replied Matrix.

"So, what's so special about you? I mean I have Chaos Control and Chaos Spear," said a smiling Shadow. "What do you have?"

"Oh, you'd like to see my power?" Matrix asked, turning slowly to face him.

"Max, no, he doesn't know you like me and the others," Rei said. She was trying hard to stop him. "Brother, please."

"Don't worry, Rei, I'll be nice and not use my full power," said Matrix.

Shadow made the first move by kicking at Matrix, but he missed. He tried again and again. Shadow tried to kick, but missed again. Shadow missed every time. Then Matrix appeared behind Shadow and tapped him on his shoulder.

"Hi," It was all the white hedgehog said, and before Shadow could punch him, Matrix moved.

"Good try, Shade, now feel this," Matrix said.

Shadow was suddenly sent flying backwards. Matrix did not lay a hand on him, but he was just suddenly sent flying backwards. Shadow hit one of the buildings on the other side of the road. Matrix started to walk over to Shadow, and Matrix smiled at the black hedgehog. Rei ran in front of Matrix.

"Stop, Max," she said without fear in her voice.

"I'm not going to hurt him, Rei," said Matrix.

He looked a Rei, and smiled nicely at her.

Rouge saw this.

"Not bad," Shadow said. Sonic was helping him to get up.

"You're not bad either, but being good and bad is not enough..." Matrix looked at Sonic. "Not this time," Matrix finally said.

"What do you mean?" asked Tails, joining them.

"I mean the other members of my team are tracking Chaos," replied Matrix.

"Did you say Chaos? Chaos the god of Destruction?" asked a totally shocked Sonic. "But I defeated him over two years ago!"

"Who is Chaos?" asked Shadow, confused.

"Well, you were sleeping at the time, so I'll tell you. Well, two years ago, Sonic here had tried to defeat the god of Destruction called Chaos, and well, that's it." Matrix said, smiling at Sonic. "He's back and he's already destroyed the Master Emerald."

"What?!! Chaos has already destroyed the Master Emerald? No! The floating Island will crash!" Tails said, starting to panic.

"Don't worry, my team are there now," Matrix said to them, and the way he spoke to the group was like he was in a weird trance. {Spere, Leona, have you got it?}

{Yes, but we got Knucklehead to deal with.}

"Is Leona okay, Max?" asked Rei.

"She is Rei," Matrix said. The Matrix pulled out a com-link and started to speak into it. "Professor, all is going to plan?" The com-link was silent.

"Yes, Matrix, and good work. Now come back, and tell the others to bring Chaos," replied the voice out of the com-link.

Matrix turned off the com-link and turned to the others. "I am sorry to run, but it looks like I have to go now," Matrix said with Rei following behind him.

Rouge watched her younger sister as she walked away.

Matrix stopped and turned only his head. "We'll meet again, Mieko-hoshi."
