Chapter 7: Alive from days of old

A few days had past by, and Matrix was back in his apartment again. This time it was different.

"It's time I moved out of this place. Too many memories of him are here," Matrix said.

Looking around the room, he saw a ghost-like form of Grey there. He shook his head to get the image out of his head.

"I'm not like that anymore." Matrix closed his eyes. "Can't I just let that life die in past?"

"You can't run all your life," replied a soft and peaceful voice.

Matrix turned to see an old female human standing at the door with the sun behind her. She was in her fifties, and she looked at Matrix with her soft, beautiful, blue eyes. Her golden blonde hair glittered in the sun at the doorway.

"Maria." He put some more things in a box that was next to him and then stood up to face her.

"How are you doing, Max?" Maria asked with tears in her eyes.

"I'm fine, Maria." Matrix said, "You could have kept your promise to me." Then Matrix sat down on a chair after she did.

"I know." Maria said back to him. She looked at him, sad. "I'm sorry."

"Maria, look, you should tell Shadow you're still alive…" Matrix stopped, and he looked into her eyes.

"I can't, he saw me when I was beautiful." Maria moved her left hand to her right arm. It was a robotic arm and the left half of her face was burned badly. She now wore a dark blue jacket, a red t-shirt, and black trousers.

"You're still beautiful, Maria." Matrix said, "He'll see that." He put his arms around her and hugged her, and she hugged him back.

"Thank you, old friend," Maria said. She smiled at him and helped Matrix pack his things.

"Where are you moving to?" Maria asked

"To the Emerald Hill zone to get my new base started."

Then they both left to go to the Emerald Hill zone on the South Island.

An hour later in the Emerald Hill zone…

"Shadow! Hey, Shadow!" shouted Rouge. She had been trying to find him for hours now. "SHADOW! SHADDDDDOOOOOWWWWW!" she screamed.

Then something or someone moving really fast suddenly knocked her to the ground.

"Sonic, don't do that! Oh, have you seen Shadow? Matrix is coming and he would like to see him the minute he gets here." Rouge said, still a bit mad at Sonic for knocking her to the ground.

"No, Rouge, I haven't seen him." Sonic smirked. "Did Matrix say why?"

"No."

"That's one hedgehog who likes to stay a mystery," Sonic said. He turned to look at the landscape of the Island.

"People say that all the time, Sonic." Matrix's voice said.

Sonic and Rouge turned to see Matrix, and standing next to him was a female human in her fifties.

"Who is this Max?" asked Rouge, looking up and down at the human.

"Oh, this is Maria Robotnik." Matrix said, looking around calmly.

"WHAT!?!" said Sonic and Rouge in unison.

"But she's dead!" Sonic said.

"Do I look dead to you, blue boy?" Maria asked. Then Maria looked at Matrix. "Hey, Max, is Rei okay?"

"Maria, you're here!" Rei said as she ran out of the Freedom Fighters base.

As she ran to meet Maria, Matrix felt a power, but this power was not from any living being.

{The sword.} He thought as he pulled the sword from his back and looked at it. The blade of the sword turned dark sliver and the two jewels, a dark green emerald, and the dark ruby turned brighter.

Matrix was in a trance, his eyes looked deeper and deeper into the sword. {What's happening to me?} He started to feel dizzy.

Maria was the first to notice. "Max, you okay?"

Matrix, without warning, fell to the ground.

"Mmmmaaaaxxxxxx!" Their voices where lost to him as he hit the ground.

Then one minute, Matrix was on the South Island, and the next minute, he was not.

"Where am I?" Matrix asked himself, groggy.

He slowly stood up and looked around. He was still holding the sword in his right hand. He looked up at the towering ancient style buildings, and he turned around. The sky of this new place was dark, but it wasn't night. It was like another world. No one was near him. The others were gone, vanished. Matrix was alone in this place. He started to walk down the street.

"Where on Mobius am I?!?" He shouted.

He walked up to two large stone doors, which where open. Matrix then ran through them, and through the cave-like tunnel, he got to the other side. After appearing on the other side, he saw a shrine surround by water, fire, and white light.

The shrine had three pillars around the center, and each pillar was a primary color. Red, blue, and yellow were each glowing in harmony. Each of the colors where licked to elements. Red was fire and war, blue was water and destruction, and yellow was light and hope.

Standing around the colored pillars was an echidna, a fox, and a hedgehog. The echidna was singing to the water, the fox was listening to the fire, and the light blinded the hedgehog. Each one was the same color as the three pillars around the shrine.

"Oh, you're here," said the red fox.

"Where am I?" Matrix asked her.

"You're in the ancient palace," said the yellow hedgehog.

"Who are you?" Matrix asked as he looked up at the shrine.

"We are the Ancients." The three said in union, looking at him.

"We know you have the power of sight, touch, and senses," the blue echidna spoke.

"So, you are the one in the legend." The fox said.

"Yes, one of the three legendary warriors." The hedgehog added.

"He is the holder of the Dark Omega." The echidna said, stepping back.

"Chaos shall rain from the skies, War will burn in the hearts of man, Hope will rise in new lands." The three said in union.

"What do you mean?" Matrix asked, confused.

"Your answers are in the Dark Omega." The three replied in union. "Do not tell the others what you have seen here."

Matrix looked at the sword in his hand. When he looked up, the shrine was gone.

"Guys, he's awake!" shouted Spere. The white echidna was looking at Matrix.

"What happened?" asked Matrix. He remembered what the three had said to him.

"Max, bro, are you okay?" Spere asked.

"Yes." The way Matrix replied to Spere was dark.

"The sword?" He asked, looking around the room. "Where is the sword?"

"It's over there," Spere said as he pointed to the sword. "You do know you've been out for a few days now, right?" Spere sat down.

"Chaos is coming," Matrix said, trying to sit up in the bed.

"You're not okay," Spere said. "You've been unconscious for days with no reason, so you're staying here, buddy."

Matrix sat back on the bed. He closed his eyes.

Night had fallen. Matrix was dreaming. He stood on a field of red fire and blood. He looked around in pure horror as he saw his friends and family, all dead.

"No, my friends!"

Something got his attention. He looked up to see three glowing beings. One was golden yellow, the second was sliver and red, and the last was a metal light grey with white lines down the spikes. This one had a sword in his hand, which was the Dark Omega. Matrix now understood that this one was himself in a high form. He looked at the other two, which were Super Sonic and Super Shadow, but what or who were they fighting? Matrix turned his head in the direction that the three beings where facing, and he saw Chaos, but this was not Perfect Chaos. This creature was glowing green all over, like the Master Chaos Emerald. Super Sonic was the first to move and to fight.

He shouted at the other two. "I'll handle this!"

But the new Chaos hit him with a blast of purple light, and killed him. Then it was Super Shadow's turn. Chaos did the same to him, and last was the grey being in the sky.

Matrix opened his eyes and sat up fast, and sweat was dripping down off his face.

"Was that a dream? You're a vision of the future?" He asked himself.

It was now two in the morning, and no one was up at this time. He got up out of bed, and walked outside into the cool breeze.

"So, I have to leave again. I am always running…" He turned to the base. "I have been running from it all my life," Matrix said to the wind.

He looked up at the stars. {I hope I can do this.} He thought. Then he turned and walked back into the base.

The next day, Matrix, who had been the first one up, was getting something for Rei and Maria to eat. The base was full of the smell of lovely food being cooked.

"Max, I didn't know you cooked," Shadow said, walking in.

Matrix looked up to see him standing in the kitchen, and then turned his head to see Rogue looking at him, angry.

"Shadow, where have you been?" she asked. She walked into the kitchen and then stood next to Matrix. "Need any help?" she asked Matrix.

"Can you do the eggs?" Matrix asked her. "Oh, you know how Robotnik likes them," Matrix smiled at Rouge.

"Yeah."

"I thought I saw Grey," Shadow said. Rouge saw Matrix's hands tighten around the wood top of kitchen units.

"You okay?" she asked him.

"That name…" He looked down. "Every time I hear it, I just want to…" He stopped when a female human walked in the kitchen.

Shadow froze in shock. "Maria…is…that…really…you?" Shadow said in total shock.

She nodded and ran up to him, and put her arms around him. "Oh, my little Shadow!" Maria cried.

Matrix stood at the cooker. Without warning, a blast from outside hit the cooker. Matrix was caught off guard as some of the flames hit him in the face. In pain, Matrix used his telekinesis ability. He threw the cooker out of a wall, and he fell to the floor of the kitchen.

"MAX!" Maria shouted as she ran up to him to see if he was okay. "Max, let me look at your face." Her voice was shaking with fear.

He put his hands down.

"You're okay, Max!" She hugged him.

Matrix turned his head to the hole in the wall. "Come, let's get out!" Matrix shouted he stood up and jumped out the hole. Maria and Shadow jumped out too.

Outside, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik stood in front of Chaos 2, and Grey was next to the liquid creature.

"Oh, how nice of you all to come," Grey said. He smirked at the gang.

"You're not going to be laughing after I'm finished with you!" A voice shouted.

The gang, Chaos 2, and Grey turned to see Matrix running at full speed to them.

"CHAOS, deal with this creature, kill him!" Grey shouted.

Chaos 2 turned into a lager sphere, flew up into the air, and Matrix used his telepyro ability to create a field of fire around him. Matrix was then hit by one of Chaos' hands, and Matrix was sent flying into one of the other houses in the area. Chaos 2 landed on the ground in front of the house that Matrix was in. Kneeling on one leg in the house, he had his head down, and then he slowly looked up at the hole in the wall that he created.

Matrix put his hand behind his back and pulled out the Dark Omega, slowly got up and walked out to face Chaos 2. The sword started to glow a white color. Matrix too started to change. His white fur turned a light grey in color; his red and black lines on his spikes vanished, and were replaced with white. Waves of psychic energy like electricity left Matrix's body, and the biggest change was that his eyes were pure white, no pupils.

"At last, my ultimate life form has finally shown itself!" Grey shouted with an evil smile.

Matrix faced Chaos, and in his mind, he was still Matrix. {This will be your downfall, Grey, creating a being to have this kind of power.} Matrix slowly walked over to Chaos 2. {That dream I had will come true, but if I stop Chaos now…} Matrix moved faster this time, and he hit Chaos with the sword. Chaos screamed in pain as the sword hit his liquid body.

Sonic and the others saw beams of energy flying all over the grass and homes around them, destroying them.

"It's chaos out here!" Amy cried.

As Matrix and Chaos were fighting, it was like two ancient forces of nature, one of destruction, and the other of life.

"Sonic, look, it is Perfect Chaos!" Tails cried out to Sonic.

Chaos 2 had, without warning, changed strait into Perfect Chaos, a Crocodile-like creature.

"I don't get it! Doesn't he need the Emeralds to do that?" Knuckles had to shout over the roar of Perfect Chaos.

"Chaos had changed because of one of the beams of energy had hit him," a voice said. The group turned to see Tikal.

"Tikal!" Knuckles cried.

"If getting hit by one of those beams of energy changes you like that, then come on, Shadow! I got an idea." Sonic said, running at Perfect Chaos.

"NO, Sonic, you'll be killed!" Matrix shouted, but the blue hedgehog could not hear him.

Sonic and Shadow were running strait for the beam.

{It's no use. I have to do it.} Matrix held the sword high up above his head, and more electricity left Matrix's body. A bolt of electricity flew over to Sonic, turning him into Super Sonic, a golden yellow hedgehog. Then another hit Shadow, changing him into his Super form.

One of Perfect Chaos' tentacles hit the building that Shadow was near. Sonic flew at Perfect Chaos, but out of Perfect Chaos' eyes, he fired red breams of light. Perfect Chaos roared at the three hedgehogs around him. Perfect Chaos was smashing homes up with his tentacles.

Matrix knew what was coming next. He stopped Sonic. "I'll go!" Matrix said.

Sonic stopped flying at Perfect Chaos, letting Matrix go by. Perfect Chaos let out one of his tentacles at Matrix. But Matrix knew, and he moved away in time.

"You'll have to do better than that!" Matrix shouted. He called back to Super Sonic and Super Shadow. "Hey!"

Both Super Sonic and Super Shadow nodded, and they moved in for the final attack. Super Sonic used his laser eyes, and Super Shadow used Chaos Control to stop Perfect Chaos from escaping.

Matrix held the sword close to his own chest. "I'll finish this!" He shouted.

Hovering in the air, he fired a blast at Perfect Chaos with the sword, and the blast hit Perfect Chaos. Matrix slowly moved to Perfect Chaos.

"Matrix, what are you doing?" shouted Super Shadow.

"It's not Chaos' fault, but it's Grey's." Matrix said, only meters away from Perfect Chaos' Crocodile-like head.

Perfect Chaos' green eyes looked at all three Super beings, and then suddenly, Perfect Chaos opened his mouth and ate Matrix.

"MMMMAAAAXXXX!" Sonic and Shadow screamed.
