Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Adventures of the Future 3 ❯ The final Showdown ( Chapter 7 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

While everybody was searching for Thunder on the space ship, they heard a loud roar. That...
thing that Maria and Shadow had fought was standing right behind them. It roared again and
disappeared.

"Where did it go?"Gierin asked.

"Oh no, it's still dangerous. That thing is trying to get down to earth, we've got to stop
it!"Burlow replied.

"What can we do?"Maria asked.

"Somebody has to take the Chaos Emeralds and turn into super form."Shadow said.

"Burlow and I will do it."

"No, Maria! Don't!"

"Dad, I have to."

"But what if..."

"Dad, I'll be fine. I promise I'll come back in one piece, okay?"

"*sigh* You're so stubborn..."

Burlow and Maria took the Chaos Emeralds, Burlow did the transformation and became a gold
and blue hedgehog, Maria did the same but she became silver and red.

"Alright, lets go!"Burlow said.

Maria and Burlow left the ship and found that creature slithering through space like the snake it
was. Thunder was riding on its back like a horse.

Maria and Burlow attacked the creature but it was much stronger than before, it scratched Maria
on the arm.

"This won't work, we can't fight it like this."Maria said.

A golden blade appeared in Maria's hands.

"What's this?"Maria asked.

"I don't know, maybe you can use it to defeat that monster."Burlow replied.

Maria charged at the creature and lashed at it with the sword, black fluid spluttered everywhere.

"Burlow, we need something else besides this."Maria said.

Burlow thought while Maria fought with all her strength until she'd been cut and bitten several
times.

"I've got it! Maria, cut him again!"Burlow shouted.

Maria did so and Burlow did an attack that he rarely used.

"SONIC WIND!!!"Burlow yelled, throwing the disc towards the creature, destroying it once and
for all.

Burlow noticed that Maria was exhausted and grabbed hold of her.

"We did it, Maria. Lets get back to the ship."Burlow said.

Maria was too tired to hold onto Burlow, she fell from his grip and began to slowly fall towards
the atmosphere.

"MARIA!!!"Burlow yelled. "Hang on, I've got you!"

Burlow grabbed Maria's wrist but Maria's hand was too hot, causing Burlow to let go. He
reached for Maria again but she slapped his hand away.

"Huh?"Burlow asked.

"Let me be unless you want to die too!"Maria yelled.

Maria closed her eyes and awaited death.

"Maria..."Burlow whispered, he saw Maria's body burn down to the bone. "MARIAAAAAA!!!!"

Maria felt her skin melt away. As it happened, her entire life flashed before her eyes. She saw
herself as a fetus, growing inside her mother's body. Then she saw everything that happened
from there to the moment she was born. The flashback came so fast, she saw herself grow from a
newborn hoglet to a three year old girl all the way up until her final moments of life. Just before
the last bit of life was burned from her visible skeleton, she remembered all of her friends and
family, all the things she would leave behind if she died. Her daughter, her son, her aging father,
Burlow and all of her friends... but it was too late, even if she did escape, she'd die anyway.

Burlow came back to the ship, alone.

"Where's Maria?"Shadow asked.

"She... she didn't make it."Burlow replied.

Shadow backed away, his eyes welled up with tears.

"NOOOOO!!!!"Shadow yelled.

He fell to the floor sitting on his seat but at the same time, in a fetal position.

"No... no... NO!!! My little girl is gone!"Shadow cried.

"Grandfather, calm down. It'll be alright."Cristie cooed, kneeling down and somewhat cradling
Shadow in her arms.

"How can you say that?! She's gone! I... I tried to warn her, I really tried... but she wouldn't
listen, she had to be so stubborn!"Shadow cried.

"Don't cry, grandfather. You'll make me cry... too, WAAAAAAH!!!"Cristie started bawling
with Shadow.

Burlow walked over to Kurama, he was silently crying.

"Son, I caught this before your mother fell. Take it."Burlow handed a torn off piece of black
wool from Maria's sweatshirt to Kurama.

"Dad, is it true? Is mother really gone?"Kurama asked.

"Yes... I'm sorry. I know you two had an attachment to each other."

"At least she'll be with grandma for now, I hope."

"Yeah, she's ganna meet her mother for the first time now. At least there's somebody up there to
look after her."
