Chapter 10
<Meanwhile, inside an abandoned labratory 150 miles away>
"Lark, report! What is the status of Shadow's capture?" The man spoke through the mich on his screen to Lark.
"Unfortunetely, we have a little...issue...it seems as though some unexpected help has shown up to stop us...we both tried to stop them, but it seems as though they beat us this time..." Lark said nervously through his wristwatch.
"DAMNT!!!! I told you not to underestimate those fools...!!!" The man shouted at Lark.
"Calm down, boss, we tired, honestly!!" Frieta tried to speak some sense into the man.
"You got one more chance, and if you fail you are both going to suffer!!!" The man said angerly as his image dissapered from the screen.
"Shit...We need to get Shadow or we're done for!!" Lark said to Frieta.
"I know...theres got to be a way..." Frieta began to attempt to figure out how to get Shadow.
<Meanwhile, inside Amy's hotel>
"Anything good on, Sonie?" Sonic asked his son.
"Nothing...not even a comedy standup!! This place bites!" Sonie complained.
"Shut up!" Amy retaliated by hitting Sonie with her hammer. "If you'd like, I can have you sleep OUTSIDE!!" Amy shouted at Sonic's son.
"Then again, the air seems to be rather cold outside..." Sonie said.
"I thought so!" Amy put the hammer away and leaped onto her bed, exhausted from the chili-dog brawl earlier on that day.
"Hey, Shadow...?" Gina asked.
"...Yeah, Gina?" Shadow was extremely nervous talking to Gina, since he had never had a girl, especially a hedgehog girl before in his life.
"I think I'm gonna head back to my place, could you come with me...?" Gina asked a surprised Shadow.
"U-u-u-u-...uh su-su-sure...whatever you-sa-say!" Shadow was studdering terribly, Gina notcied this and started to giggle.
"Yeah, Shadow! You get him boy!" Sonic teased Shadow, punching lightly on the shoulder.
"Baka..." Shadow replied as he walked out the door with Gina in hand.
"They look so cute don't they!?" Susan said, happy for her friend.
"They sure do...I just only hope Shadow doesn't get his heart broken..." Sonic muttered.
<Meanwhile, near Gina's apartment>
"So, Gina, why did you come here?" Shadow asked Gina, holding her hand the entire time.
"Well, its a long story, really..." Gina said, her tone changing tremendously as she finished this statement.
"...Why is that?" Shadow asked, leaning closer to Gina to get every single detail.
"...my family died a short time ago...my mother...father...my brother and sister all died..." Gina said, tears starting to form on her eyes.
"I'm sorry to hear that, Gina...I myself know how you feel..." Shadow also had a few tears forming in his eyes.
"You don't know what its like to lose a family..." Gina stated.
"Don't say that to me!!" Shadow inadvertently shouted at Gina, hurting her slightly.
Gina started to cry but Shadow embraced her to try and comfort her.
"I'm sorry, Gina...I lost not just a person...I lost the only person I ever knew..." Shadow said remorsefully.
As Shadow began to enbrace Gina more and more, his ears started popping, but Shadow didn't think anything of it at the moment.
"Oh...I-I'm sorry, Shadow...I didn't know..." Gina said apologetically.
"Its okay...I'm sure you're here for a reason...and me too..." Shadow said to himself.
Gina continued to embrace Shadow, clinging to his fur like a teddy bear. Surprisingly, Shadow was able to maintain his composure and return the show of affection to Gina.
While Shadow and Gina were preoccupied with themselves they didn't happen to notice the changing conditons in the sky. Shadow felt his ears "pop" but didn't think much of it at that moment in time.
Gina looked up in Shadow's eyes, glad that he was comforting her like he was, the feeling of Shadow holding her gave Gina shivers all over.
"Wow...she is beautiful! I can't believe I'm..actually embracing a female..." Shadow said to himself as he saw Gina eyes in a different way: Shadow saw something in Gina's eyes that made him lose all doubts in his mind that this was a fluke, and that it wasn't fate that he and Gina met, Shadow lost all those doubts when he saw Gina's eyes. Shadow decided that now would be the chance that he never thought would be given to him as he leaned his head closer to Gina, who was seemingly doing the same thing.
Suddenly, the peaceful environment was shattered by a lightning flash in the sky, then a rumble of thunder as Shadow saw something truly horrific.
"ITS A TWISTER!!!!" Gina screamed at the size of the tornado infront of them but had no time to express her fear as Shadow had grabbed her and was dashing away from the twister, which was moving at a fast pace towards them.
"Its gaining on us!!" Gina shouted to Shadow, who was running slowly, but still faster then most vehicles because he had not rested enough after his long journey to the city.
"Shit...its gonna get rough, hang on!!" Shadow ran as fast as his legs would allow him with the little strength he had and sped off towards the east side of the plain.
Shadow wasn't kidding either, hidden dips and rocks in the grass greatly hindered their progress as the twister was gaining on them.
"HANG ON!!!" Shadow yelled as Gina dug her claws into Shadow's back, making Shadow wince slightly, but Shadow dove for a ditch infront of them, clinging onto whatever they could as the twister passed over them.
Shadow covered his eyes for a split second as he got a pocket of dust in his eyes and Gina started slipping from Shadow's grasp.
"No! Gina!" Shadow shouted as he saw Gina slipping away from his grasp.
"SHADOW!!!!" Gina screamed as her hand slipped from Shadow's as she started to drift away from Shadow.
Gina closed her eyes, expecting to be flung hundreds of feet into the air, instead, she felt a hand cling onto hers as Gina slowly opened her eyes to find that Shadow was firmly gripping her hand while latching onto an underground pipe with the other hand, both of their bodies floating in the air off the gorund, mere feet away from the surface.
"Hang on, Gina!!" Shadow shouted as loud as he could because the noise from the twister was deafening. Shadow and Gina continued to float feet off the ground, the debris luckily not hitting their vulnerable forms.
Suddenly, the winds died down and Shadow and Gina were no longer floating but on the ground in the same place they were before.
"Thank you, Shadow...Thank you!!!!" Gina said to Shadow.
"I wasn't going...to lose...you...Gina...!" Shadow wearily said to Gina as the two of them had been clinging to each other ever since they were on the ground.
Shadow and Gina were breathing heavily, both from fear and exhaustion as they had survived that grueling ordeal with the twister.
Shadow slowly got up from his spot, holding onto Gina's hand as they backtracked to Amy's hotel.
