Chapter 2--Reunion
Tails was unloading the Tornado from the cargo bay of the space shuttle when he received a
signal from an unknown source. He was already in the pilot's seat of the Tornado, so he decided to answer
it. He was a little surprised to see someone wearing what appeared to be a flight helmet appear on his
monitor. Cautiously, he asked, "...Hello?"
"Hey Tails!" the helmeted person responded, rather energetically. "You probably don't know me,
but I know you! Call me Siruis. Before you ask how I got this frequency, let me answer it by saying
that I can't explain; it would take too long." His expression became more serious, and he said, "Listen, I'm
calling you to give you some very important and exciting news...Shadow...has survived." By now, everyone
had gathered around to see what Tails was doing. When they heard this, they stared at each other in
disbelief.
After what seemed like forever, Sonic broke the silence, and said, "Wait! How do we know you're
not lying! Give us some proof!"
After thinking for a moment, Siruis glanced over to the back of the cockpit, where Shadow
was. The image on Tails's monitor panned over to the back of the room like cockpit, revealing a certain
sleeping hedgehog. A few moments passed.
Sonic, who had mistaken the sleep for death, thusly shouted: "YOU!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE
TO HIM??!!!"
A somewhat surprised and offended Siruis then returned: "Whoa! hold on a minute! You
think I killed him?! No way! I saved him! He's just asleep, that's all! Jeez, calm down!" After a moment,
he continued, "You'd be wiped too, if you had just gone through what he did."
Once he had contemplated this, Sonic apologized--but not before releasing a big, exhausted
*SIGH*. "So anyway, where are you?"
As soon as Sonic had finished that sentence, Siruis smirked a huge smirk and said, "Actually,
We're headed right for you!" A mere 7 and a half seconds later, the huge mass of metal known as
Metalporygon came to a stop a few yards away from the shuttle. Tails looked in awe, Knuckles and Rouge
looked in astonishment, Eggman wondered how he could make one, and Amy hid behind Sonic, who stared
at Metalporygon with a look of duty on his face. A few seconds later, the antigravity beam (the same one
that picked up Shadow) appeared between the ground and Metalporygon's head. Siruis and a
somewhat groggy Shadow were lowered down.
"Hello...everyone" The half-asleep hedgehog mumbled to everybody.
Sonic smiled, happy to see his friend. Then a devilish little grin appeared on his face as he thought
of what he was about to say--"So, the ultimate life form had to take a little nap, huh?" he said with a
sarcastic, holier-than-thou tone that would've caused Shadow to attack Sonic, had it been any other day.
"I seem to remember a certain blue hedgehog that literally walked right into a trap that shot him
into space, and nearly blew him to pieces." Shadow flatly replied, while trying to repress the grin that was
slowly creeping it's way onto his face.
"I got out, didn't I?" returned Sonic, still smiling.
"Only because you copied me" Shadow said, knowing he had completely disarmed Sonic of all but
the lamest comebacks. Shadow couldn't help but smile--a rare event, in his case.
Before either of them could say anything, Tails bumped in, looked at Siruis, and asked,
"So...Just who are you, anyway?"
Before Siruis could answer, they all heard the rumble of thunder. It sounded nearby; in fact, it
was. Looking up, the group realized that none of them had noticed the clouds that had been there since
before the shuttle landed. Eventually, the gaze of the group fell on Siruis; he was about to answer
Tails's question.
"Like I said before, my name is Siruis. But I suppose you all want to know where I'm from."
The rest of the group nodded in unison. Siruis continued: "Well, uh,...*sigh!* Metalporygon and I are
from another dimension. You see, I've been monitoring your progress, and the ARK incident. I've been
hanging around to see if you'd desperately need help; and, before you ask, we only interfere when there's
no way anyone else could help. Saving Shadow is an example of when one of you needed help, and only
we-that is, Metalporygon and I, could provide it."
"So how exactly did you get here?" Eggman asked, eager to jump on the idea of technology from
another dimension.
"Metalporygon is capable of inter-dimensional travel" responded Siruis.
"Are you gonna be staying long?" inquired Knuckles.
"I haven't decided yet." replied Siruis. "I can leave whenever I want to, all I have to do is
have Metalporygon here give me a lift."
Amy, who had finally come out from her hiding place behind Sonic, Asked, "I'm guessing that that
big thing there is Metalporygon, right?" She pointed at Metalporygon as she said this.
"Yup, that's him, or it, or whatever." Siruis said, proudly.
"So just where exactly did this thing come from anyway?" Rouge wanted to know. Before
Siruis could answer, she added, "Wait, lemme guess, long story, right?"
"I'm afraid so, yup. In fact, I'm not even sure how he was created. I was tinkering with the
programming of some advanced virtual reality equipment, and the next thing I know, there it was.
Fortunately, I knew how to operate it, since I created it." Siruis explained.
Almost none of this was true, but it was easier than explaining what really happened; since that
would lead to a line of questions that would take forever to explain. Just then, without warning, the clouds
burst out with rain.
"Oh great!" Sonic exclaimed, "It's raining on the day we saved the world!" The frustrated
hedgehog thought for a moment as he and everyone except Metalporygon, who just stood there, took cover
under the wing of the shuttle. Sonic then added: "Which reminds me, where's the press, anyway? They
should've been all over us before we even landed."
"I think they're over there," Knuckles said, indicating the direction with his hand. When they
looked in the direction that Knuckles had pointed in, (sort of, it's kinda hard to point when you have boxing
gloves on) they saw a mob of angry, and now, soaked, reporters. They were forced to stay behind a line of
police and police barricades, which almost wasn't enough. They were mad enough as it was, and the rain
didn't help.
Siruis turned to Sonic and semi-jokingly asked, "Those reporters look pretty mad; you guys
wanna ride outta here?"
They all took him seriously, and accepted. Siruis walked out from underneath the shuttle and
looked up at Metalporygon, without saying a word. As if knowing exactly what to do, Metalporygon
reactivated the anti-gravity beam, placing the edge of it right in front of Siruis. At Siruis's signal,
Sonic and the gang all entered the anti-gravity beam. Sonic had to 'help' (read: push) Amy into the beam
before going in himself. Making sure that everyone was safely aboard, Siruis entered the beam last.
Moments later, Metalporygon lifted off the ground and flew away, leaving behind two very large footprints.
