Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Everlasting Love ❯ Impossible, right? ( Chapter 3 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Ok, sorry for the brief delay everybody! I'm happy to say that the good ol' laptop is up and running again!

I know this update is out of the previous mentioned order (for those of you that read it), but I'm drawin' a blank on the other one and I like this one! So, I'll try and fit to that order the best I can, I just need more time for the others. Meanwhile, here's the next chap in this part.

The disclaimer from Chapter 1 still holds true.

~Everlasting Love; Part 1, Chapter 2~

"He who has a 'why' to live, can bear with almost any 'how'."
- Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)
(I'm putting famous quotes on all of my chapters now)

~Later that day~

Shadow had just come back from a run and was lying on the couch, hot, slightly sweaty, and a little hungry. He glanced over at the clock. It was 4:30. Rouge would have to open up soon.

He sighed and walked over to the freezer, glancing at the couch where that girl was as he went by. He frowned. She was……….well, not weird, he decided, but….different. He grabbed the ice bucket from the freezer and went to the sink to fill it with cold water. She was a lot different from Rouge anyway, almost opposite.

He scoffed at this. Did he always compare things to Rouge? He shrugged it off and entered her room, leaving the door open. Clenching the bucket in both hands, he suddenly dumped its contents over the bed, making a scream erupt from under its covers.

“SHADOW!!!!!!!!!”

“It's 4:30”

“Couldn't you once just wake me up without getting me drenched in the process?”

“Nope”

Haley yawned and stretched luxuriously on the beach in the hot sun. She hadn't slept a full night like that in about a week. That hedgehog though………..He was something else.

She sighed and shook the thought out of her mind. “You think a girl would learn……..”

“Learn what?”

Eyes wide, Haley whirled around to see the owner of the voice………..
*****

“Echidna, what are you doing here?”

Knuckles frowned at Shadow's `greeting'. “What? A guy can't walk into a club without being condescended?”

Shadow shrugged. “Whatever. What are you doing here?”

“Just came to see Rouge officer.”

Shadow rolled his eyes but ignored the comment. “Take over,” he more commanded than stated, walking out the door.

Knuckles watched him leave. “Going out clubbing again huh? Pfff, fine….” Gives me more time alone anyway….. “Hey, if you've got nothing better to do, check out Starlight. They've got a new gal over there and rumor has it she's quite a looker.”

New girl? It can't be…….. Shadow instantly thought of the girl he'd found in the alley. Life couldn't be that ironic, could it? (if the author's evil enough, no >=3)

Storing the information in the back of his mind, Shadow merely `hmphed' and left.

“Schmitty! You scared the crap out of me!” Haley yelled while laughing at the 19-year-old human boy that had snuck up on her.

The boy gave a hearty laugh, pushing his blood-red hair out of his eyes. “Ah, sorry love,” he said with a thick southern drawl. “I thought I migh' find ya here. Ya always come to the beach righ' before ya work.”

“Yeah, I don't know why though. It's like………something's waiting for me and this beach is where I'm going to find it.” She could feel her mind begin to drift again with the waves.

Schmitty took one look at her and groaned. “Haley…you know I can't understand ya when ya get all spiritual on me….”

Haley made a sound that was half-scoff, half-laugh, but ignored the comment and stood. “Well, I better head back to the club anyway. There I can think all I want.”

The boy laughed, and then raised an eyebrow. “Not that I mind, but where were ya las' night? I was out waitin' for ya and ya never came so I headed in. You finally found a home of yer own?” he smirked, “Or ya found someone else to pawn offa?”

Despite herself, Haley blushed. “Well I….” she turned and smirked, blush still on her face. “Do you want me to work tonight or not?” she said hastily.

“Hey, hey, calm down. I didn' mean anythin' by it. Ya better head back to the club anyway though. Almost openin' time.”

“Yeah, you're right. See you there Schmitty.” And with that, she sped off back into town.

Schmitty watched her leave and shook his head. Watch out for yerself gal. Don't rush too fast into things. Women may be able to fake orgasm, but men can fake an entire relationship.
******
Quick heads up to you guys out there, no, it's not a strip club, and no, Haley's not a stripper. Sorry to ruin any hopes or w/e you guys might have had in that account.

~That night~

Shadow stood outside on the street, gazing up at the huge neon sign which, in big cursive letters, read Starlight. The ebony and crimson hedgehog considered going in. I'm all the way here……..I might as well. After all, what hurt could it do? He realized the odds of actually seeing the girl were pretty slim, but it couldn't hurt to look.

It was loud inside, and much more crowded than Club Rouge ever was. All the men were gathered around the stage and (Shadow noticed there were much more men than women, and 60% of the people there were human) mostly females around the bar.

Curious as to what was going to happen, Shadow eased in behind the crowd and casually glanced around. The stage looked like one you might see on TV at a rock concert. The main stage had a cul-de-sac-like addition to it, and the stairs that led to it were blocked by tape across the rails. A single pole was placed in the center of the cul-de-sac circle. Above the main stage was a smaller, rectangular outcropping that was connected to the main stage by another pole.

Suddenly, the lights went dim and the noise ceased. The overhead lights illuminated the stage, and the curtains were opening. Shadow's ears twitched as the music started.

Well you say your every day…………………
Is a bad dream that keeps repeatin………………
Maybe you should have thought about that……………
When you were cheatin………………

With that last verse, the curtains opened fully and Shadow almost cried out. It was that girl! That hedgehog he'd found just last night in an alley was now up on stage, singing into a microphone.

How do you like that furnished room?
The bed, the chair, the table,
The TV picture comes and goes,
Too bad you don't have cable...
How do you like that paper plate,
And those pork and beans you're eatin……

The girl walked slowly across the stage as she sung, flashing smirks and winks at the boys below. Seeing this made something in Shadow spark, but he chose to ignore it.

Maybe you should've thought about that……….
When you were cheatin'……………

Now she shimmed up the pole to the outcropping with a surprising amount of ease. She'd obviously done this before, with more or less the same routine. Everyone down below was fascinated by her, Shadow among them. She's a talented dancer, he decided.

How do you like that beat up car?
I think it's fair we traded.
Your pick-up truck is runnin' fine,
It's a cozy ride for datin'………….
Yes I've been out a time or two…….
And found the comfort I'd been needin'………

In about the middle of the verse she jumped down, flipped backwards, and landed where she had previously been. And acrobat, Shadow thought, eyes wide. By this time he had somehow wandered his way to almost the front, the stairs to the added part of the stage only a few feet away.

Maybe you should have thought about that…
When you were cheeeaaatinnnnnn……..

Suddenly her head turned and her eyes widened as well. She'd spotted him! Shadow made a move to step back, but in two blinks of an eye the music got slower and she had one hand on the pole and was leaning out until their faces were mere inches apart. Her voice got softer but still enough to where everyone else could hear it.

Now what became of what's-her-name,
After she spent all your money…….
Did she leave you just like you left me?
Well sometimes life is funny…….

Upon the last verse she sprang back, flashed him a smirk, and preformed another back flip to the main stage, leaving Shadow's eyes wide. He shook his head quickly to regain his senses, but to not much avail. Giving up he simply continued watching her, the recollections of what just happened flooding back.

Yes I'll be glad to take you back……
Just as soon as I stop breathin……
Maybe you should have thought about that,
Oh, maybe you should have thought about that…….
Maybe you should have thought about that,
When you were cheatin'…….

As the song ended, she flashed him one more look, then disappeared behind the curtains.
*******

Shadow stood back outside, under a streetlamp. That girl…… he thought with a smirk. She might be friskier than Rouge, and that's saying something. He turned to look at Starlight's entrance. “Wonder where she is now………” he mumbled.

“Boo”

Shadow jumped and whirled around to see the girl he'd just been thinking about standing right in front of him, laughing.

“What's so funny?”

Her laughter died down some. “You jumped like three feet in the air! What're you doing here anyway? You don't seem the type to be around these parts.”

“I normally don't. Guess you're just lucky,” he smirked. “Haley right?”

“Smart and cute, double points,” she said, turning around and eyeing him over her shoulder. “Come on then, I'll show you around. It's a lot different here than in the outskirts where you are.”

Shadow wanted to point out that it was Rouge's place, not his, but figured it would be pointless and merely followed.

~Ugh, there's no way it should've taken this long. And to make things worse, I won't be able to type for two weeks cause of camp! ^^;;; Sorry y'all! I'll get to work on it when I get back!~
