Ch. 2: The Future is Wide Open

"Amy...will you marry me?" Sonic said with a tear in his eye.

Amy was speechless for a minute or two, but finally she spoke.

"Yes! I will!" Amy said with tears in her eyes, Sonic placed the ring on her finger; the ring was glod with a fairly good sized Amthyest stone at the end of it.

"I know we've already had a baby, and we just got married, but I feel I need to make it official." Sonic said with his nervousness gone, replaced by joy and happiness.

"I'm glad you did...Its about damn time!" Amy said, giggling a bit after that phrase.

"You weren't seeing anybody..were you?" Sonic said with an accusing, yet jokingly sarcastic, tone.

"I would never love anyone but you, Sonic." Amy replied.

"I love you, Amy." Sonic said smoothly, planting a kiss on Amy's lips.

Amy was slightly taken aback by this but returned the kiss with just as much passion and enthusiasm as Sonic. They were officially a couple.

"Lets head home; I'm sure they are wondering where we went." Amy said, as she drove off, one hand on the steering wheel and one holding Sonic's hand.

<Back at Sonic's house>

"Where are they?!" Knuckles said impatiently, they had been waiting about twenty minutes and they still weren't home.

"Maybe they got stuck in traffic?" suggessted Tails.

"At 1:00 PM?!" Knuckles glared at Tails, looking at him suspiciously as if he might know something.

"Hey, I have no clue as to whats holding them up, so don't look at me like that!" Tails snapped back at Knuckles, putting an end to that gaze.

"Whatever..." Knuckles grumbled as he sulked.

<Car horn>

"Hey! I think they're here!" Michael excitedly said as he ran towards the car, noticing Sonic and Amy's hand clinched together. "Oh my goodness! They proposed!!" Michael noticed the ring on Amy's finger and joyfully announced it to the others.

"You serious?!" Knuckles didn't believe it at first, but then he saw the ring for himself and he knew then it was true.

"Way to go, Sonic!!" Tails gave his buddy a slap on the back, which wasn't easy, being a little shorter then Sonic was.

"You two finally tied the knot, huh?" asked Michael.

"Yes, we did. Our lives as a couple has officially started." said Amy happily.

"Well, dad, how do you feel?" asked Michael.

"Like I'm the luckiest hedgehog in the world." Sonic said, giving Amy a kiss on the cheek.

"I'm happy for you two!" Knuckles said as he gave Sonic another slight punch to the back.

"Well, now that you two are officially a couple, whats next?" asked Tails.

"I feel like I ned a reprieve from the evil-fighting I do everyday...I need a reprieve and a well-deserved vacation!" Sonic said, grabbing Amy and speeding off towards some place for the two of them to spend some quality timw with each other.

"Well, I guess that means Michael is the new Sonic!" Knuckles said.

"No, I could never be like my father...He is so much better then me!" Michael said, knowing full well that he was twice as powerful as his father.

"You're in denial!" Tails said, giving Michael a kick.

"Well, if I have to be the next Sonic, then I guess I have no choice!" Michael said.

"Well, you need a sidekick..."Tails said.

"Hmmmmm...you are absolutely right, Tails! I choose...you!" Michael pointed to Tails, much to Tails shock.

"What?! I thought I was Sonic's sidekick?!" Tails complained, trying to avoid being Michael's sidekick.

"Why don't you want to be my sidekick?" Michael asked.

"I don't know you like I know Sonic...me and him know how to cooperate smoothly!" Tails said, turning his back in refusal.

"Very well...I guess I can do it on my own!" Michael said as he sped off towards his house.

"Tails? Why did you turn down his offer?! Thats Sonics' son you turned down there!" Knuckles looked at Tails as though he was insane.

"He's not Sonic!" Tails said, running from Knuckles.

"Tails!" Knuckles called after Tails, but he had already gotten away from him. "Shit! Now what am I gonna do?!" Knuckles flew back to his apartment.

Meanwhile, a shadowed figure had been listening to the entire conversation.

"Excellent...the young one doesn't want to be with Sonic's son...yes, very good indeed...with Tails not a threat, then I can take Michael out easily...that son-of-a-bitch...Michael, he will pay for what he did to me..." the mysterious figure said. the voice was like a robot, but it had human qualities.

<Meanwhile, at an abandoned complex 5 miles away>

"Monic! Report!"

"It seems as though the young one refuses to be Michael's sidekick." said the Monic.

"Very good news! That means your job will be much easier! Now, I want you to get that Knuckles out of the way! He isn't a threat to you, but he could change your battle with Michael! He must be eliminated!" the figure spoke to the Monic.

"Affirmative! Monic out!"

"It seems as though Michael is alone...heheh...that is very good, now I can proceed with my plans for total destruction! For the world will soon tremble at the prescence of Robotnicks successor, Proffesor Frank Shingleman!!!" the prof. laughed as his screen went blank.

<Meanwhile, at Michael's house>

"Damn Tails...why did he turn me down? It doesn't make any sense...Tails has just seemed so passive and depressed as of late...I wonder if it has anything to do with Shadow getting killed or anything...whatever it is, it can't be good..." Michael thought to himself as the Monic watched him from his window.

"Thats it, keep pacing...soon enough you're going to fall victim to the one you destroyed...Mecha Monic is back...but now...he is a living, breathing hedgehog with the same powers as you, Michael...Just you wait...the time will come when Sonic won't be there to help you and you will be all alone...when that time comes, I will be the one standing over your rotting carcass as the world will tremble with the rise of the New World Order led by Dr. Shingleman..." the Monci grinned as he sat perched in a tree, awaiting for Michael to step ouit of his house.
