July 22, 07:06 Station Square Casino cul-de-sac

Eruption Countdown: 10 days, 10 hours, 1 minute

* Tails and Amy show up inside the broken train tunnel. Tails is carrying the machine that monitors volcanic gases. *

Amy: Now, let's go over the plan again, Tails. You'll find a place in the sewers where you can monitor any volcanic gases released. But be sure you have proper protection, since the gases are hazardous. In the meantime, I'll find the others and tell them about the volcano.

Tails: Gotcha. (flies off)

* Amy starts to climb down the track-ladder. However, another earthquake, magnitude 6.4, hits the area, and the track begins to break. Amy knows she can't make it in time, so she jumps. She is able to land on her feet. *

Amy: Whew. That was close. (runs off)

July 22, 08:47 Station Square sewers

Eruption Countdown: 10 days, 8 hours, 20 minutes

* Tails is walking through the sewers with a silver suit covering his body. This type of suit is normally used to protect the wearer from volcanic gases. *

Tails: (looking at machine) No readings so far. I just hope I don't get lost down here. (continues walking)

July 22, 12:14 Station Square Park

Eruption Countdown: 10 days, 4 hours, 53 minutes

* Amy is walking through the park towards Cream's house. When she gets close to the entrance, G-mel, the black robot that Tails modified for Cream's family, rushes up to her. *

G-mel: Identify.

Amy: G-mel, it's me, Amy.

G-mel: *beep beep* Welcome back, Amy. (steps aside)

* Amy runs up to the front door and knocks on it. Vanilla, Cream's mother, answers the door. *

Vanilla: Hello Amy.

Amy: Hello. (steps in) Is that the news?

News: This is Station Square's Scarlet Garcia, reporting to you live from the train station. We've just gotten word that the magnitude 6.4 earthquake felt several hours ago has done more destruction to the local mass transit system. Apparently, the train tracks have received even more damage, as almost the entire track-bridge leading out of Station Square over the river has collapsed. Construction crews estimate approximately several months before the trains will become operational again.

Vanilla: (turns TV off) I wonder if I'll ever get used to these earthquakes here on Earth. (to Amy) We were just making lunch. You want any?

Amy: No thanks. There's no time anyway. You, Cream, and G-mel have to leave the city before August 1.

Vanilla: Leave the city? Why, exactly?

Amy: This is something that may startle you, so please don't jump on this. There is a volcano underneath Station Square. On August 1, it'll erupt and destroy the city.

Vanilla: Oh my…For real?

Amy: Yes, unfortunately.

Vanilla: But, how do you know? Have people finally found a way to predict eruptions?

Amy: Well, no.

Vanilla: Then, how do you know of this volcano?

Amy: Listen to me. This may sound strange, but I'm not the Amy Rose from the present. I'm from the future.

Vanilla: Huh? You're from the future?!

Amy: I thought I said not to jump. Look. (takes clear Emerald out of pocket)

Vanilla: How'd you get that off of Sonic?

Amy: He gave it to me in the future, and it came into the past with me. Now, back to what I was saying. I somehow got sent two weeks back in time during the middle of the volcano's first eruption. As far as I know, Chaos Control did that.

Vanilla: You used Chaos Control? I thought only Sonic and Shadow could use it.

Amy: That's what I thought too. I still don't know how I pulled it off. It was kinda accidental anyway.

Vanilla: Accidental?

Amy: The thing is, my foot got stuck in gravel, and then the clear Chaos Emerald, which was already next to me, activated Chaos Control.

Vanilla: Do you know if anyone else survived?

Amy: (lowers head) No one else survived. And if Chaos Control hadn't saved me, I would've been dead too.

Vanilla: Then, you're saying Cream, Tails, and the others -

Amy: (pause, then she slowly nods her head) Yes.

Vanilla: (puts hand to mouth) Oh…this is terrible! And I can't even get out of here!

Amy: What do you mean?

Vanilla: I don't own anything that could take us out of the city safely. Almost all the bridges that exit the city are basically highways, so they don't allow pedestrians. The only exception is the track-bridge, and as the news said, it's been completely destroyed. Last I heard, the X Tornado also needs major repairs. And we can't afford mass transit either, be it bus, taxi, ferry, airplane, or rickshaw.

Amy: I can help you with that.

Vanilla: But where could we stay? None of us have vacation homes outside the city. The trains are the only way to Tails' workshop, and they're out of service. And the Thorndykes won't return until late at night on August 15. None of us have the money to afford a stay at an inn until then.

Amy: Couldn't G-mel or Tails fly you out of the city?

Vanilla: Neither of them could fly that far. The whole city is surrounded by a very wide river. If G-mel or Tails ran out of energy, we'd all plunge into the river.

Amy: You can swim to safety if that happened, right?

Vanilla: I can't swim. I never got a chance to learn as a child. You were the one who taught Cream how to swim, and with what you plan to do, there's no time for you to teach me how.

Amy: Hmm, you have a point there. (slight pause, then) Hey, I have an idea! We could put you with the rest of the evacuation.

Vanilla: Evacuation?

Amy: Now that I'm in the past, I'm trying to convince the city council of the volcano. That way, they can order an evacuation of the city, saving everyone in it. You and Cream can flee with the rest of the citizens.

Vanilla: You think you can pull that off?

Amy: I have no choice. If I fail, Sonic will die again…

* There is silence between them for a few seconds. Then, Vanilla speaks. *

Vanilla: Amy, if there is any way I could help, please tell me. I don't want anyone else to die either.

Amy: Well, I don't want you to leave Cream here all alone. Even though G-mel is here to take care of her, Cream will worry if something has happened to you.

Vanilla: I understand. But I still feel like I should be helping you.

Amy: There's nothing you can do until the evacuation is called. Sonic is the only one left to talk to, next to the city council. I'm the only one who can try to convince him to stay out of the city.

* There is a knock on the door. A familiar voice is heard yelling through. *

???: Vanilla? Are you in there?

Amy: (quietly) Oh great. It's my other self. (to Vanilla) Listen, just act like it's the fist time you've seen me today. I can't let my past self notice I'm here. I'll see you later. (runs toward the back door)

Vanilla: (thinking) So she is from the future… (walks toward front door)

July 22, 19:33 Station Square Casino cul-de-sac

Eruption Countdown: 9 days, 22 hours, 34 minutes

* Amy walks into the street from the train station entrance. Tails is already there waiting for her. *

Amy: You find anything yet?

Tails. No. I've already checked a big section of the city. Do you remember where in the city the volcano first erupted?

Amy: No. I didn't have time to look around during the eruption.

Tails: I guess I'll have to try another part of the city in the morning. It's getting kinda late.

Amy: It's okay. I have to find Sonic by myself anyway. I'm the only one who has a chance of getting through to him.

Tails: Well, good luck. Bye. (flies off)

Amy: (to herself) Now to find Sonic. (runs off)

July 22, 19:57 Station Square

Eruption Countdown: 9 days, 22 hours, 10 minutes

* Amy is rushing down a random street searching for Sonic. A blue blur suddenly passes by her. The blur turns around and stops near Amy. *

Sonic: Hey, Amy. What's up?

Amy: Sonic! Glad I found you. I have something important to tell you.

Sonic: What? Is Eggman back?

Amy: Not as far as I know. This may sound strange, but I want you to trust me when I say this.

Sonic: Go ahead. I'm listening.

Amy: There is a volcano under Station Square. On August 1, it'll erupt and destroy the city.

Sonic: Say WHAT?!

Amy: I'm not kidding, Sonic. Right now, I'm trying to order an evacuation of the city so no one gets killed.

Sonic: And how are you so sure of all this? Last I checked, humans couldn't accurately predict volcanic eruptions. No offense, but now I'm starting to think this may not be true.

Amy: Look, Sonic. (takes clear Emerald out of pocket) You gave this to me in the future. Somehow, I accidentally Chaos Controlled back in time with this Emerald.

Sonic: Huh? Wait a minute.

* Sonic feels around his pockets, and he pulls out his clear Emerald and holds it near Amy's. *

Sonic: (slowly) Holy shit…

* An aftershock of that morning's earthquake, which is about magnitude 4.8, hits the area. *

Amy: Another aftershock, just as I expected.

Sonic: (to himself, but loud enough for Amy to hear) Too many quakes around here. I have the feeling these natural disasters will be the end of me someday.

Amy: But -

* In the middle of Amy's sentence, an explosion is heard behind Sonic, and a building collapses. *

Sonic: What was that?

Amy: A gas line may have exploded.

Sonic: That sounded more like a projectile hit it. I'll be right back. (dashes towards fallen building)

Amy: Wait up, Sonic! (runs after Sonic)

* When Sonic arrives at the building, he spots Eggman hovering close to the ground. *

Sonic: You never seem to learn your lesson. What are you up to now?

Eggman: You think I'd tell you? You'll just have to wait and see!

* A mechanical arm lunges out at Sonic at a very fast speed. It catches him off guard, as he drops the clear Emerald when it grabs him. Another arm comes out and snatches the Emerald. *

Amy: Sonic!

Eggman: Ha ha ha! One Emerald down!

Sonic: (to Amy) Get away, Amy! Run!

Eggman: (to Sonic) I have no use for her this time. And with the tight grip I have on you, you can't spin dash your way free!

Sonic: I'll get out somehow!

Eggman: Ha ha! Where you are going, there's no way you could escape! I created a special holding cell just for you! (flies off, carrying Sonic with him)

Amy: Sonic!!

Sonic: (to Amy) Stay there! I'll free myself soon!

* Eggman turns his head around and talks to Amy. *

Eggman: You can't get me now, Amy! I have Sonic for good this time!

???: (in the distance) Sonic!

* Eggman turns his head forward again and sees another Amy running right toward him. *

Eggman: What the hell? Two of them?!

* Eggman maneuvers his ship away from the ground and flies out of the city. Amy just stands there, staring at Eggman. *

Amy: Sonic…

* But she notices the other Amy rushing towards the wreck site. She quickly ducks for cover. *

July 22, 22:02 Eggman's Base

Eruption Countdown: 9 days, 19 hours, 5 minutes

* Eggman enters his base's prison. Sonic is already in one of the cells, which is sealed with an orange force field. *

Eggman: How do you feel now, Sonic?

Sonic: I've been through this before, Eggman. Remember when the military captured me for stealing the green Chaos Emerald from the federal reserve?

Eggman: Yes, yes, and it was really Shadow who took it. But enough of this small talk. Let's get down to business. Earlier, just after I had captured you, I noticed that there were two of Amy. I'm thinking you know something about this.

* Sonic realizes that Eggman may be trying to get something out of him about the future Amy, so he tries to talk his way out of it. *

Sonic: No, I don't. How is it possible to have two of someone like that anyway?

Eggman: I don't know. But I did see two of her, nonetheless. I'm telling you that there's something fishy about all this.

Sonic: And I'm telling you, you were probably hallucinating.

Eggman: Hmph. (takes out clear Emerald and tosses it through force field into the cell)

Sonic: What a stupid mistake that was! (picks up clear Emerald) Chaos Control!

* Nothing happens. Sonic is still in his cell. *

Eggman: Ha ha ha! I designed that cell to neutralize the energy of the Chaos Emeralds inside the cell, so you can't just teleport away! This force field also doesn't allow any object through in either direction - well, living objects at least. That's how I was able to throw that Emerald in. I'll leave you and the Chaos Emerald in here for now. You better get used to not being able to run around, because you'll be in here much longer than you can imagine!

* Eggman leaves and enters a nearby laboratory room in his base. Decoe and Bocoe are waiting for him. *

Decoe: (to Eggman) So, how did it go, Dr.?

Eggman: Swimmingly. Sonic is finally contained in a place where he can't stop my plans.

Bocoe: Did any of his friends try to get you back in the city?

Eggman: Well, yes. But they failed miserably, since they couldn't keep up with me. How's that new battle robot coming along?

Decoe: It's coming along quite well. Bocoe and I think it'll be a couple days until this thing is finished.

Eggman: Well, from what I've just seen today, I'd want this robot done sooner!

Decoe: What do you mean?

Eggman: Just after I captured Sonic in Station Square, I noticed a very strange sight: two of Amy Rose!

Bocoe: Two of her? But that's not possible!

Eggman: Oh yes it is. My guess is a future version of herself came back in time, since it is the only logical way there could be two of her in the present. Chaos Control is a warp through time and space - that's the only reason I can think of that can explain this. But I wonder how Amy was able to use Chaos Control in the first place…

Bocoe: Maybe Sonic taught her.

Eggman: Only Sonic and Shadow really have the ability to do that move. But back to what I was saying, I want this robot done by lunchtime tomorrow! I've found the perfect mission to test this prototype's capabilities. When you activate it, program it to find and kill the Amy Rose from the future!

Bocoe: Affirmative, Dr.!

Decoe: Right away, sir!

*Decoe and Bocoe swiftly get back to work on the prototype battle robot in the back of the room. Strangely enough, the robot vaguely resembles Zero… *

Sorry I took so long to update. I kinda got hooked on Sonic Battle over the past few weeks, and I had another long research paper to write. But now I have another chapter up, and I'm looking for reviews! So please review! See ya!
