Sonic: Here it is, Emerald Hill.

Eggman appears with 3 new robots, codenamed the X-300-S's.

Eggman: Now my new robots, destroy Sonic while I gain control of Emerald Hill!

The X-300-S's obey and attack Sonic.

---Back in Knothole Village---

Sally: I've never seen anything like them!

Rotor: It's like he debugged Sonic 2 and inserted his own bots!

Tails: I knew Sonic wasn't lying. I gotta go help him!

Sally: No, Tails. Stay.

Tails: If Sonic was right, then he'd need help, because Robotnik would be expecting him alone. Probably, anyway.

Princess Sally's servant, Antoine, walks in and fixes his wig.

Antoine: I think Sonic is rather capable of beating Robotnik, but I think Tails may be right.

---After Button Mashing---

Good Job! You helped Sonic without costing him a life!

Sonic: Alright, now I gotta dash through this level.

Sonic: Come on out guys!

Sonic grabs 8 rings and blasts a few enemies before he eventually gets 50 and passes a starpost.

Sally is still watching on her screen.

Sally: Wow! Sonic entered a Special Stage and can get a Chaos Emerald to help!

Tails is still trying to catch up to Sonic. He's very tired and stops near the starpost Sonic entered.

Tails: SONIC, WHERE ARE YOU! I WANNA HELP!

Sonic, meanwhile, is about to grab his first Chaos Emerald.

Sonic: There it is, ahead of me!

Sonic Jumps over some spikeballs and snags the emerald. Then he returns and sees Tails sleeping near the starpost. He shakes Tails to awaken him.

Sonic (whispering): Tails… Tails…

Tails opens his eyes.

Tails: Sonic? It is you!

Sonic: Why are you here?

Tails: I wanna help.

Sonic: No way! It's too dangerous.

Tails: Exactly. Robotnik could kill you if you two really did come from the future.

Sonic: You're right. Last time I beat Robotnik alone, and that's what he's expecting.

Tails: Exactly!

Sonic: Well, I suppose you can help.

Tails: YAY!

Sonic: But you'll need to stay out of sight until I reach Robotnik.

Tails: Aww, Sonic.

Sonic: Either that, or go back to Knothole.

Tails: You're acting just like my dad did when I was younger. Then he died in a freak bowling accident.

Sonic: I think I'd rather not know.

Tails: Well, you better get through this level, because if it takes more than 10 minutes, the stress will kill you.

Sonic: We have 3 lives each.

Tails: True, but if we don't get out of here soon, Robotnik's bots will kill us first.

Sonic: And I don't have any rings.

Tails: I have 16, so here's one you can use to guard yourself.

Sonic takes the ring.

Sonic: Thanks.

Sonic and Tails race each other through the remainder of the level, Sonic beating tails by 23 seconds.

Tails: Hey! Wait up!

Sonic: Robotnik must have continued to Act 2!

Tails: That fast?

---Back at Knothole---

Antoine: Well, they made it past Act 1.

Sally: Yeah, but they're still a long ways off from Robotnik!

Rotor: I hope they'll be safe.
