THE DEATH OF THE GUARDIAN?

A/N- I bet the title gives off what's gonna happen in this chapter! I'm writing this purely as I go along. I have the plot planned, but most of the stuff in the middle just happens. I wasn't planning the Rouge spying again. Anyway, I have to say that I am hyper today. Air Heads are REALLY good, and I had some a little bit ago. If you want to help go to my bio page. It will be on the very bottom. Anyway, I don't own Sonic and company. I get REALLY annoyed of saying that! It just makes me feel bad!!! I DO own Celestial, Lisa, Drake and possibly others if I feel like putting them in. I might put some other people in as back ground characters or something. Anyway…I say anyway a lot. Um…here's chapter five.

It's the middle of the night at Sonic's house and everyone is sound asleep. Shadow is sleeping on one of the couches. Amy is sleeping in the guestroom, Cream is sleeping in Tails room, and Knuckles and Rouge are curled up together on another couch.

/Shadow's dream (memory)/

Shadow, Maria, Gerald and a few other scientists are standing around a glass capsule. A small hedgehog is floating eerily in a greenish liquid. Shadow pulls on the hem of Maria's dress and she looks down at him.

"Maria…what's going on?" asks a confused Shadow.

"Gerald is going to show us the last step of his project," says Maria. "Me and you get to take care of her."

Gerald walks over to a computer and begins to type rapidly. After a few minutes the green liquid begins to drain and the wires connected to the hedgehog disconnect. The small hedgehog slumps to the bottom of the tube. After a few minutes the hedgehog's eyes open. They are the bluish gray color most new borns have. The small child sits on the bottom for a while. It begins to cry and Maria rushes over to it. She wraps a towel around it and picks it up. Maria gently rocks the small creature back and forth and it stops crying.

"She's so cute," says Maria. Maria tickles the child with her pointer finger. The little girl giggles and grabs Maria's finger. "Look Shadow." Maria goes down to Shadow's height. "It's your little sister." Maria walks over to Gerald. "Have you named her all ready?"

Gerald sits in thought for a moment. "Why don't you name her Maria?"

Maria thinks for a moment before snapping her fingers. The little hedgehog's ears perk up and she looks at Maria with her curious eyes. "How about Celestial? Do you like it?" asks Maria looking at the hedgehog. The hedgehog giggles slightly. "I'll take that as a yes. Then it's settled. She's Celestial the Hedgehog."

Shadow pulls on the hem of Maria's dress again.

"Yes Shadow?" asks Maria.

"Can I hold her?" asks the dark hedgehog.

"You can, but you have to be very careful," warns Maria.

Shadow takes Cel in his arms and smiles as she puts one of her feet in her mouth. "I'll always be there for you."

Suddenly Shadow is surrounded in darkness. He turns around. It was all dark. He hears crying and his ears perk up. "Hello?! Hello?! Is someone here?!"

"HOW COULD YOU!" shouts a female voice loudly. The voice is choked with tears.

"What?!" asks Shadow.

"HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!"

"Do what?!"

"HOW COULD YOU LEAVE ME BEHIND?!"

"What's going on?! Who are you?!"

"YOU PROMISED I'D BE OKAY! YOU PROMISED!"

"Huh?"

"WHERE WERE YOU?!"

"What are you talking about?!"

"I HATE YOU SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG!"

The darkness around Shadow seems to break around him and he begins to fall. He looks up and sees Celestial staring at him.

"Cel!" he shouts. "HELP ME!"

"Sayonara Shadow, the Hedgehog," says Celestial. She throws down a red rose. A wind blows and she seems to be blown away like smoke.

/With Shadow/

Shadow wakes up abruptly. Cold sweat is on his face and he is breathing deeply.

"Shadow?" calls a voice. "Shadow?! Are you awake?"

"I'm up!" calls Shadow.

"Come have some breakfast!" calls the voice of Amy.

Shadow walks upstairs and gives Amy a good morning kiss on her cheek.

"We thought you would never wake up," says Sonic while taking a bite of one of his pancakes.

"I'm not very hungry," says Shadow.

"Just have some toast or something," says Amy.

"Okay," says Shadow. He takes a piece of toast and takes a few bites.

"After everyone is finished eating we're going to visit Tails in the hospital and see how he's doing," says Rouge.

"I hope he's okay," says Cream worriedly.

"I'm sure he's just fine," says Amy putting a comforting hand on Cream's shoulder.

"Thank you Amy," says Cream.

"This is what friends are for," says Amy.

Approximately 30 minutes and many pancakes later the group leaves to go to the hospital. As they enter they walk up to the desk and see a light green bunny with forest green spots on her ears, which are pulled back into a ponytail.

"How can I help you?" asks the rabbit.

"We're here to visit Miles Prower," says Sonic. "Can you please tell us which room he's in?"

"Of course," says the rabbit. She looks through her files until she finds Tails. "He's in room 109. It right down the hall to your right. Another is currently seeing him actually. She is really quite sweet actually."

The group's eyes widen.

"By any chance does this girl have wings and resemble him slightly?" asks Rouge pointing to Shadow.

"Why yes," says the nurse.

"Thank you," says Amy. The group leaves quickly and bursts into the room to find Celestial sitting on a chair reading a magazine. The door hits the wall with a crash and her ears perk up. She puts the magazine down on a side table and looks at the group.

"You should really be more quiet," says Celestial. "The little cubling is trying to get some well deserved sleep. He DID almost die yesterday." She crosses her arms and stares at the group. Her gaze is fierce and unnerving. "He won't die by my hands…today anyway. I want it to be swift, clean, and painless. He is only a child after all. He deserves a little mercy."

"Wow," says Knuckles. "And I thought you were just a heartless monster. Shows how wrong I was!"

Celestial turns her gaze on Knuckles. She narrows her eyes in rage. "Your lucky we're in a public place." She walks over to Tails and stares at him.

"You touch one hair on his head and I'll…" starts Sonic.

"And you'll what?" questions Celestial. "Kill me? Really now. You amuse me blue hedgehog. Everyone in this room knows you don't have the heart to kill." Celestial kisses Tails cheek before walking towards the window.

"You aren't going anywhere!" shouts Sonic. He runs towards Celestial.

Celestial smiles and charges a Celestial Shocker in her hands. "Don't make me kill you. It's not your time…yet."

Sonic stops, knowing that she could hit him with the attack way before he got to her.

"Much better," muses Celestial. "I think you're learning." Celestial stands on the windowsill. "I'll be seeing you again shortly, and believe me. Our next meeting won't be nearly as pleasant." She jumps off the windowsill and spreads out her wings. She winks at them before flying off too fast to truly see her.

They all rush over to Tails and check on him.

"He seems to be okay," says Amy.

"What is up with her?" asks Knuckles. "Sometimes she's sweet, and other times she's a ruthless killer. Does she have a split personality or what?"

"She's pretty creepy if you ask me," says Rouge.

"Though I have to admit she is kind of attractive," says Sonic.

Everyone stares at Sonic.

"What?" asks Sonic. "She is!"

Tails gives a slight moan and opens his eyes.

"Hey," says Sonic. "How are ya buddy?"

"I've felt worse," says Tails. "Were you talking about Celestial?"

"Yeah, why?" asks Shadow.

"She's not as bad as she makes herself out to be," says Tails. "She actually talked to me before I dosed off."

"What did she say?" asks Shadow.

/Flash Back/

Tails lay on his bed with his eyes open when the door opens. He turns his head and sees Celestial walk in. He begins to scream and Celestial covers his mouth with her hand.

"I'm not here to kill you," whispers Celestial. She removes her hand from Tails mouth.

"Why should I trust you?" asks Tails.

"If I was here to kill you I would have already done it," says Celestial. "Besides, I want my victim to be at full strength when I kill them. That way I have a challenge, and I can actually have honor."

"Why would you come talk to me?" questions the young kitsune.

"Most people wouldn't have survived my attack," answers the hedgird. "I came to see if you survived, and if so, congratulate you." She puts her hand out and Tails stares at it apprehensively. "Don't worry. I won't hurt you…now any ways."

`How can she be so calm talking about her killing people?' thinks Tails. He slowly reaches out and shakes her hand.

"So how are you feeling?" asks Celestial.

"Okay, I guess," answers Tails. "Why do you want revenge on Shadow anyway?"

"I'm sorry to say I can't answer that question," says Celestial. "Let's just say he broke a promise, and it ruined my life, so now I'm returning the favor." Celestial walks over to a chair and takes a bag from under it. She pulls out a can of Mountain Dew. She opens it and takes a sip of it. "Man this is good. It seems like ever since I took the first sip I haven't been able to get enough of it."

"Probably cause of all the sugar in it," answers Tails. "It's like energy."

"Your pretty smart kid," says Celestial. "It's a shame I'm going to have to kill you." She flies in a laying position. She crosses her legs and puts her arms under her head.

"Why do you think that because your angry with Shadow it gives you the right to kill people?" asks Tails.

"I was taught that as long as you have a reason it's okay to kill people," answers Celestial.

"Who taught you that?!" asks Tails.

"Professor Gerald Robotnic," states Celestial. The two sit in silence for a while before Celestial breaks it. "So, can you fly?"

"Yeah," says Tails.

"That means we're alike," says Celestial. "We are both able to do something our species shouldn't…though I guess you could argue that I'm my own species."

"Yeah," says Tails. "You know. You seem really nice. Why don't you just join us? I mean, we could really use someone with your abilities on our team."

"You don't need a team anymore," says Celestial. "I killed Robotnic, remember? Your enemy is dead and he's never coming back." Celestial finishes her pop and crushes the can in her hand. She throws it over her head and it lands in the wastebasket. She pulls herself into a sitting position.

"That doesn't mean we won't ever have another battle," argues Tails. "I'm sure we have plenty of other deadly villains to battle out there!"

"Yes," says Celestial. "And I'm one of them." She closes her eyes and a blade comes out from each of her bracelets. Tails gulps and Celestial smirks. "Like my weapon?"

"Um…I guess?" says Tails. "I mean it's cool…and it's concealed well." Tails yawns.

"I'm gonna stop boring you to death now and let you sleep," says Celestial. She sits on a chair and retracts her blades. "I want to see your friends when they come."

"You won't hurt them…will you?" asks Tails.

"Not with so many people around," answers Celestial. She pulls a magazine out of her bag. "Now go to sleep before I make you permanently."

/Un-Flashback/

"She didn't hurt you?" questions Sonic.

"Not even a little," says Tails.

"I think she's crazy," says Knuckles. He walks towards the door.

"Where are you going knucklehead?" asks Sonic.

"Back to Angel Island," answers the echidna. "I've been away from the Master Emerald for long enough." He begins to leave.

"What about Celestial?" says Rouge in a worried voice.

Knuckles eyes soften slightly. "Don't worry. I'll be careful." He leaves the room.

"I just hope he'll be okay," says Rouge.

/With Celestial/

Celestial stands on the rooftop of the hospital. She watches as Knuckles leaves alone. "That's it. Leave the group. Make yourself an easier target." As Knuckles runs off Celestial smirks and follows him through the air.

/With Knuckles/

Knuckles reaches Angel Island and walks over to the shrine. He sits next to the Master Emerald in silence. He closes his eyes. The call of bird's soothing him. Slowly lulling him into sleep. Suddenly, a totally different birdcall rents through the air. This call is shriller. It's louder and it sends chills down the strong echidna's spine.

"Celestial," mutters Knuckles. He opens his eyes to find that the sun was beginning to set. He is slightly wet as well. `It must have sprinkled,' thinks Knuckles. His foe stands a few feet in front of him with her arms crossed. She has a jean jacket on, and for some reason she changed her top to a black tube top.

"This was your final day," says Celestial. "I'm honored to be the one that will wipe the echidna's race out of existence."

"That's not gonna happen!" shouts Knuckles. He throws a punch at Cel.

Using her superior speed she easily avoids the attack. Celestial hits Knuckles in the chest with a roundhouse.

Knuckles quickly hits Celestial with an upper cut. She is sent into the air. She turns her self around mid air and lands on her feet.

Celestial quickly moves forward and slashes Knuckles across his side with her talons. She throws another kick at the guardian. Knuckles grabs her leg before it could hit him. He spins Celestial around before throwing her. She slams into a rock, and the force of the hit makes her fly through it. She hits another rock. The rock cracks, but doesn't break. She gets up, a little shakily and charges at Knuckles again. "I would have expected you to give up after that," says Knuckles.

"I NEVER give up," says Celestial putting emphasis on the word "never."

"Then I guess you'll just lose," says Knuckles. He throws another punch at her. This time she takes to the sky to avoid the attack.

"Celestial shocker!" shouts Celestial. Several balls of energy are launched at Knuckles. He narrowly avoids them. Then, using her speed, Celestial sends a flurry of fists and feet at Knuckles. Knuckles expertly dodges most, but he is hit with a few of the attacks. A strong kick is sent at Knuckles. He grabs her leg again.

"Made the same mistake twice," says Knuckles.

Celestial simple twists around and kicks him in the head with her other leg. He releases his grip on her and she smirks. He gets back up. The two are panting. "To bad I have to kill ya. This is the best fight I've had in ages."

"Likewise," says Knuckles.

Celestial closes her eyes and the blades on her bracelets extend. "This is where it ends guardian." She pulls out her magenta, used to be purple, Chaos Emerald. "CHAOS FLASH!" Time slows down around Knuckles. During which Celestial moves too quickly for him. She easily attacks him furiously with her blades. When time returns to normal Knuckles is a bloody mess. He slowly falls to the ground. Blood mixing with the mud on the ground. Celestial smirks down at him. Her blades glisten with blood as she retracts them. She picks up the wounded Knuckles and carries him to the edge off the island. "So long guardian." Celestial drops Knuckles. He falls quite a distance before landing in the water. The sudden shock makes him bring water into his lungs. The water burning some of the cuts on his body. He begins to slowly sink to the bottom of the sea. He tries to swim to shore, but he is too tired. He knew he wouldn't be able to keep himself alive for much longer. The blood loss begins to get to him. His sight becomes foggy and he begins to sink into the water again.

/With Celestial/

Celestial looks at the Master Emerald and smirks. "Won't be needing this anymore." Celestial grabs the gem and it shrinks to a hand held size. She puts it in her bag as the Island begins to lose altitude. Celestial throws a red rose down into the water before flying off.

/With Knuckles/

Angel Island comes crashing down sending a tidal wave towards Knuckles. Knuckles stays in his place. Not having the energy to swim away. The wave crashes into Knuckles. He gets pulled under water and breathes in more water. His lungs begin to burn in pain. Unable to obtain the oxygen they need. Knuckles soon gets washed up onto the shore. He hears another wave and it hits his feet. A red rose washes up next to him before everything goes black.
