The princess slowly opened the glowing door to reveal a dark room. As Sonic and Tails looked in with awe, lights began to turn on, revealing a city. This city had no streets; instead, waterways that covered every inch of pavement. (For those who don't know what I'm describing, think of Venice, Italy and you know what it looks like pretty much.) As Tails continued to stare in awe, Sonic slowly looked at the princess, who started to lightly tear and sag her head. Tails pointed at a boat in the distance.
“Hey guys! Maybe we should get on that boat!” Tails suggested, Elise agreeing. Sonic reluctantly agreed, only because the princess wanted to get on. Normally, Sonic would stay behind as he hates water.
Sometime later, the trio was on a boat. Only the princess knew where it was headed, and hid it for a reason. She started to look down to her feet, tearing again. Sonic, sitting at her side, put his arm around her consolingly. “What's up Elise? Want to talk about it?” Elise started to turn her head, and look at Sonic, smiling his usual smile. The princess couldn't help but let out a chuckle, as Sonic wiped the tears away from her eyes.
“Well, Sonic… if you must know…” Elise started, Sonic listening attentively, Tails just tuned in to the conversation. “I hold a secret known as the `Flames of Disaster.' One day, I was peacefully sitting in my garden out in the front of the palace, when the birdbath out back started to glow and eerie shade of red. I went to investigate, and I put my hand into the water. All of a sudden, I felt this burning sensation, then a tingle, and then I passed out. When I woke up, I walked over to the nearest mirror…” Elise stopped there, starting to cry again. Sonic consolingly caressed both of her cheeks with his hands, as if he was about to start kissing her. He instead whispered “It can't be all that bad… trust me, I've seen bad.” Somehow, that made the princess feel better, and she continued to tell the story. “When I looked into the mirror… I had transformed into a cat. A purple cat who wore high heels, similar to yours Sonic, and had power over fire. That's when I immediately went to the palace physician. He told me that I had a curse, which could never completely go away. So, with the brightest minds around the world, we constructed this room…the Soleanna Room… in hopes to prevent this transformation from happening again.” All of a sudden, the boat nudged up against a series of wooden planks, held up by support beams. Tails flew out of the boat, as Sonic helped the princess out. They went up to an altar, as Sonic's head began to slightly sag. He wanted to ask Elise a question, burning at the foremost part of his mind, but he couldn't gather the guts. Elise looked down at the hedgehog, and smiled. “What is it, Sonic Hedgehog?”
Sonic then looked up, tenderly taking both of her hands into his. “How can we prevent this transformation?”
Elise slowly saddened again, and turned to face the altar. “With this chant, Sonic Hedgehog.” She extended her arms to her sides, lifted her head up slightly and closed her eyes. Sonic and Tails watched, confused. “Sun of Soleanna, guide and watch over us with your eternal light!” As those very words were said, lights on the altar began to illuminate, forming a bit of a criss-cross shape, kind of like the DNA double helix. Eventually, the lights joined at one spot and a small fireworks display began. Sonic and Tails had their `awe faces' on again, this time their jaws were both dropped as far as they could drop. Suddenly, there was a brilliant flash of light. Sonic and Tails covered their eyes, hunching over slightly, but Elise just stood there. Within a matter of seconds, they were teleported back outside of the Soleanna Room, the door glowing that shade of gold once more. Sonic and Elise were saddened, as Tails started to walk down the hall to the main corridor.
“I think I'll leave you guys to your own devices for a while… catch ya later, Sonic!”
“Thanks, Tails… I'll call ya in the morning bud, ok?”
“Sure thing, Sonic.” Tails began to whirl his tails in his signature heli-rotor form and flew away. Sonic looked up at the princess consolingly, as she cracked a slight smile. Then, out of nowhere, she grabbed Sonic's hand and led him down the long hallway. They eventually reached a room with a sign on the door that said “Princess' Quarters” in Arabic. Elise opened the door and quickly led Sonic in…
