Disclaimer: This story is an adaptation of the GBA game Sonic Advance 3, copyrighted by Sega Sonic Team. Thus, I don't own the game or any of their trademarked characters. The names that I've given Eggman's machines aren't their official names, so you have my permission to use them if you wish.

(A/N: This story will have me telling background information about what is going on in case you haven't played the game yet. The background information will be placed between small [note that] hyphen marks, as shown just below. However, I've added some things of my own when it comes to the background info, so it's not exactly like the game.)

- Scene: a huge, grassy plain. All seems calm, until Sonic is seen rushing somewhere, with Tails trying to keep up. -

Tails: How much longer, Sonic?

Sonic: I don't know. Eggman's got some sort of new contraption to harness the energy of the Chaos Emeralds he's stolen. We'd better hurry and find him!

Tails: But what if he's activated it already?

- Now we go to the central control room of Eggman's base. He puts the green Chaos Emerald into a small capsule. -

Eggman: (stepping back) That's all seven Emeralds in place. And since Sonic's not around to stop me this time, this should be a piece of cake…

- He turns around and presses a red button. All of the Emeralds begin glowing brightly. -

Eggman: Yes! It's working!

- Now back to our heroes. They notice that the sky has turned a dark orange, and they see a very big energy dome coming their way… -

Tails: Oh no!

Sonic: Is that - Chaos Control?!

- The Chaos Control emits a pull that Sonic and Tails can't escape from. They get sucked in, and when it disappears, only the grass on the plain remains. -

- Scene: apparent blackness. Sonic is lying down unconscious in the middle of this "void". He soon wakes. -

Sonic: (stands up) Where am I?

- Looking around, he finds he is in the middle of a city intersection, but the roads around him are empty. -

Sonic: What's this? It's kind of reminds me of Station Square, except for the fact that no one's here.

???: (in the distance) Sonic?!

- And realizing whose voice it is… -

Sonic: Is that you Tails?

Tails: I'm over here! Follow my voice!

Sonic: Um, ok!

- Following Tails' voice, he finds himself in the middle of a wide highway. He arrives to see Tails standing near a fence on the other side. -

Sonic: There you are.

Tails: I've been looking everywhere for you.

Sonic: What happened anyway? Where is everyone?

Tails: I guess they ran toward the bomb shelters due to the emergency.

Sonic: And just what did Eggman do?

Tails: Well, Eggman activated his machine, just like I feared. Take a look over the fence if you want to see what he did.

Sonic: Gotcha.

- Sonic walks over to the fence and takes a peek over it. To his surprise, he sees the same dark orange sky practically going down forever. -

Sonic: Yep. We got trouble. But how did Chaos Control get us so high?

Tails: I dunno. All I know is that the world has been separated into seven parts. I can barely see them from over here, even through my binoculars. From what I can gather, it turns out that these new sections of the world are all particular "environments" of the original world fused into individual regions. For example, the city we are in right now is a fusion of all the world's cities.

Sonic: O…k… Then where are we now?

Tails: You mean the highway? This is Route 99, normally on the edge of Station Square.

Sonic: And where's the closest section of the world to us?

Tails: (takes out his binoculars) Hmm. That would be Sunset Hill, in the forest-like region in front of us.

- Suddenly, a figure pops up very close to the binoculars, and Tails jumps back from surprise. This figure, which is a black robot about 3.5 feet tall, flies out and lands in front of Sonic. -

Sonic: Hey, who are you?

Robot: *beep beep beep*

Sonic: Can you even talk properly?

Robot: *beep beep* - Who are you?

Sonic: Umm, Sonic the Hedgehog.

Robot: Target confirmed. Prepare to attack.

Sonic: What?

- The robot lunges at him, but he swiftly evades it. Sonic runs over to the fence. -

Sonic: If you want to fight, try to catch me!

Robot: Attack!

- It lunges again at Sonic, but it misses, breaks through the fence, and falls off the highway. -

Sonic: (to Tails) I'm starting to pity Eggman if that was one of his creations.

- Little does he know that the robot has flown back up right behind him, until Tails tells him. -

Tails: Sonic, look out!

Sonic: Hyah!

- Sonic jumps up and spin kicks the robot, which had begun another lunge at him. -

Tails: Nice one.

Sonic: I learned that from Knuckles.

- They both stare at the robot lying on the ground. It sparks slightly, followed by a small explosion from it stomach. The robot stands up despite its condition. -

Robot: Heavy damage sustained. Retreat.

- It hovers down the highway at a surprisingly fast speed in an effort to escape. -

Tails: Should we chase it?

Sonic: It can't be as fast as me.

- He starts to chase after it, with Tails shortly behind, but soon he sees a giant hammer-like tank positioned in the middle of the highway. An easily recognizable voice is heard through an intercom on the tank. -

???: Hahahaha! Long time no see, Sonic.

Tails: Eggman!

Sonic: What are you doing here Eggman?

Eggman: Why, stopping you from defeating me, of course. I suppose you've met my newest creation, G-mel?

Sonic: I hope that's the thing you're in right now.

Eggman: No, you fool! This is the EggHammerTank-3. I'm talking about that black robot you fought earlier.

Sonic: Oh jeez…(giggles slightly) I can't help but laugh at you now, Eggman (starts laughing).

Tails: How do know we've fought him?

Eggman: He came back all damaged and dirty. You must've battled it.

Sonic: (stops laughing to say this) I wouldn't have called it a battle, Egghead. There's no way you'd be in your right mind to send something that weak into battle against me.

Eggman: I just friggin' built it!

Tails: What do you plan to do with G-mel?

Eggman: You think I would tell you pests?

Tails: Yes.

Eggman: Damn, you're good. (mutters something inaudible under his breath) Ok, here it is in a nutshell. In each contraption I've built to fight you is a Chaos Emerald. There is also a slot for G-mel to slide into so he can harness the Emerald's power. I'll let you figure out the rest.

Sonic: It won't be so important soon enough, Eggman.

Eggman: Oh, it will be. Too bad you won't be around long enough to find out. Take this!

- Eggman thrusts a lever forward and the hammer begins swinging downward at Sonic. -

Tails: Watch out, Sonic!

- Sonic, of course, is able to dodge the blow. -

Sonic: Is that the best you've got?

- Looking around, he sees G-mel positioned in the EHT-3's base. He gets an idea (duh!), and he kicks the glass of the cockpit at high speed. The glass easily shatters. -

Eggman: No!

- Eggman flinches due to the glass flying everywhere, and Sonic gets ready for the counterattack. -

Sonic: Take this, Egghead.

- He pushes the lever in front of Eggman and the hammer crashes into EHT-3's base. Sonic jumps out as the EHT-3 sparks and explodes on Eggman and G-mel. -

Sonic: That takes care of that.

- Eggman obviously survives the blast, but is covered in ashes. He shakes them off, and discovers the purple Emerald in his hand. -

Eggman: Well, at least I still got my Emerald.

Sonic: Enough talk, Eggman. Hand over the Chaos Emeralds you stole now!

Eggman: No! And besides, this one Emerald isn't going to be too much of a help.

Sonic: What are you talking about? Don't you have the six other Emeralds?

Eggman: That's the point. I don't. During Chaos Control they all were separated and transported to each of the regions, so I know generally where they all are! I just have to gather them all over again, and then you'll have no means to foil my plan!

- G-mel, who is holding his dismembered right arm in his left hand, interrupts Sonic and Eggman's conversation. -

G-mel: Circuits in critical condition. No possible chance to win. I suggest we retreat, Dr. Eggman.

Eggman: I'll be back, Sonic. Just you wait!

- Eggman flies off with G-mel toward Sunset Hill in the distance. -

Tails: (worried) I don't like this. I think that as long as G-mel is connected to a Chaos Emerald, he'll just grow stronger.

Sonic: You think? Isn't that pretty obvious?

Tails: We don't have any time to waste. The world needs us again.

Sonic: Hey Tails, transport me over to Sunset Hill, will ya?

Tails: Ok.

Sonic: We should be able find a Chaos Emerald over there. And maybe some of our friends too.

- He grabs hold of Tails' feet, and they fly over toward Sunset Hill together. -
