Chapter 1: Attacked!
"Silas, how the hell did I ever let you talk me into this?!" I yelled to my friend, while running as fast as I could down the alley.
"I dunno," he replied. "But less talky, and more runny!"
We ran down the alley as quickly as we could, and I heard our pursuers yelling and shouting not too far behind. "Hey, Silas, I think that they're catching up!" I turned to look at my friend, and quite possibly give him a good hit on the head, but he wasn't next to me. I stopped to look for him, but I didn't see him anywhere. That's when the mob that was chasing us decided to catch up and surround me.
"Heh heh, hey, guys. What's up?" I said, my cockiness taking over. I knew I wouldn't get out of here without fighting, so I'd better be prepared.
"Shut up and give back what you stole, you stupid little punk!" one of them said.
"You know, I'd like to, but I can't. I don't have you're whatever-it- was that got stolen. My friend does, and it seems he's disappeared." 'Where is he anyway?' I thought.
A slightly bulky kid walked out of the group. He was pretty big, and he had a dark tan. I recognized him from school, and he was a good fighter. "In that case, I'll kick your ass, while they," he jerks head to the group, "search for your buddy." A few of the people in the group run off to look for Silas. "Prepare for the worst beating you'll ever get, shrimp." He started to laugh, and cracked his knuckles.
"Oh, I'm so scared," I replied. "Well, then, let's party!"
He rushed at me, getting ready to take me down with a left hook. Now this guy was bigger than me, by at least 70 pounds. If he hit me...well, I'll let you imgine that. He swung at me, but I ducked at the last second, and readied myself to start my attack. But he decided at that time to forcefully connect his knee to my mouth. I flew back a few feet, and landed on my back. I couldn't even think because of the immense pain in my mouth and the rest of my head. I stayed on the ground for a while, trying to ignore the pain, while the other guy's buddies were cheering and celebrating like he had won or something.
"Haha! Take that, you pussy!" one of the guys said.
'Oh, that's it,' I thought. I got up, which I found surprising because of the blow to the head I just took, and started laughing. "It'll take more than that to keep me down," I said, bewildering the mob. They started murmuring about how I was able to get up after that attack, and my opponent just stared at me. Then a grin appeared on his face. "Now then," I said, " shall we try that again?" He nodded. 'Heh, I don't lose twice!' I thought. We ran towards each other, but stopped when we heard a voice coming from above us. We stopped and looked up. A figure stood on the roof of a building on my right.
"Hey, Tim!" the voice yelled, and I recognized the figure as Silas. "Don't worry, I'll help ya!" And with that, he disappeared and came back with a nice sized rock, which he chucked down at us. It landed near the group of people, and many of them started running.
My opponent turned and told his friends to follow him. He turned back towards me and said,"I hope to face you again, sometime. But on more friendlier terms." He turned back and walked off.
/TWO HOURS LATER/
'Man, I can't believe I went along with what Silas did,' I thought, heading home. I was taking my time, trying to figure out what happened earlier. I took out the gem Silas had given me and looked at it closely.
/FLASHBACK/
"Here, Tim," Silas said, holding a red gem up. "This is what I stole from them."
"But why? I mean it just looks like a regular ruby or something," I replied.
"They took it from me, and I wanted it back. But I want you to have it. You earned it." I looked at him funny. "You were the one fighting, and you took a kick to the mouth for me. So I think you deserve it."
He handed it to me, and he wouldn't take it back, so I put it into my pocket and started on the long walk home.
/END FLASHBACK/
"I wonder how much it's worth?" I said to myself. I put the stone back into my pocket and look up at the clouds. I wasn't watching where I was going, and I stumbled over something, lost my balance, and fell, the ruby falling out of my pocket. 'Stupid tree root,' I thought, reaching for my gem. I saw something move towards my hand out of the corner of my eye, so I pulled my hand back, and whatever it was flew by and landed in the dirt next to me. I pocketed my jem and went to investigate the mysterious projectile. What I picked up was a spike of pure ice. 'What the hell? An ice spike? In the middle of July?!'
"I can feel Hope's power flowing strongly through you, boy." I turned to face the mystery person. He was a little shorter than me, with really light blonde hair. His eyes were blue, and kinda looked frozen.
"What are you talking about?" I asked, a little agitated.
"Thousands of years ago, my master defeated the being known as Hope. But by doing so, Hope split into nine seperate beings, each with a part of his power. They defeated the Dark God Chaos, but I was given his powers to find a way to bring him back. You harbor the power of one of them, and I need your powers to revive Chaos."
"Heh, you're crazy," I said, turning and walking off.
"Foolish brat! Frozen Quills!" I turned to see him shoot ice spikes at me, but jumped to the right before most of them hit me, but some still stuck into my left arm.
"Grr...Who do you think you are?!" I yelled, outraged. "And how did you just do that?!"
"My name is Roland. I have been infused with the powers of the Dark God Chaos. Anymore questions?"
'Great, now he's tauntiong me,' I thought.
He raised his right arm into the air, and held it steady with his left. Sheets of ice started encasing his arm, and it started coming to a point. He created an ice blade on his arm, and swung it around to test it.
'Great, how am I supposed to compete with that? He's gonna rip me to shreds!' I was slowly starting to panic, and it messed with my concentration.
He sprinted towards me-man, his speed was incredible! I barely jumped back to dodge his slash, but it still sliced through my shirt. Before I had a chance to react, he attacked me from the left. He slashed my already injured arm, and I felt it slice through flesh. I felt pain beyond anything I had ever felt before. I collapsed to one knee, already feeling dizzy from blood loss. I couldn't see straight, but my hearing was still good. I could hear him laughing at me. I looked up, and saw him standing above me, laughing at me.
His laughing echoed through my head, nearly driving me insane. "SHUT UP!!" I yelled, curling my right hand into a fist, then upper cutting him. It caught him off guard, and the impact caused him to fly back a few feet. "Heh heh, super powers or not, I'm still the best fighter there is."
Roland started getting up. He stood erect, glaring at me. "You'll pay for that, mortal," he said, the threat being being more threatening by the look of his eyes. After getting rid of the ice blade, he rushed toward me. He seemed even faster with my injuries. He hit me in the gut, causing me to double over in pain. He then brought his knee to my mouth with enough force to send me flying a few feet into the air.
I couldn't move. Every muscle in my body felt as if it was on fire. And my mouth hurt. "You know," I said, "I'm getting tired of being kicked in the mouth!"
"How are you still conscience, boy?" he asked.
"Hehehe, I dunno. I've got a hard head," I replied. "Either that or you underestimated me."
"Well, now I will kill you," he said. "Any last words?"
"Just three: go screw yourself." If I was gonna die, I might as well piss him off before then.
"Damn you!" he said, shooting an Frozen Quill at me. I rolled to the left, causing the shot to miss me, but shredding my shorts.
"Grr...Will you stop ripping my clothes?!" I looked towars my shorts, which was filled with holes on the right side. The ruby fell out of my pocket, and landed close to my hand. 'Stupid rock,' I think, reaching for it. As soon as I touched it, it began to shine brightly. I felt my power return slowly, and my wounds heal. My dizziness left, and my eyesight returned. 'What's happening to me?' I thought, as images started to fill my head, images of a war.
A/N: Okay, there's the chapter. If you liked it, review and tell me. That kind of stuff gets me to writing quicker. Well, until next time, later.
