War of Hearts
Its morning now, and I almost forgot about last night's activities. Just as I vaguely thought about visiting Sonic, it hit me again in an instant. That girl… I have to see her. The constant worry of who she was kept slapping me in the face and I also can't help but think of what she wants with Sonic. So I got ready as fast as I could to visit this mysterious stranger.
Tails shuffled along the ragged pathway, almost in a hurry. Passing somebody's house, he almost tripped over a small rock on the floor. The people living in that house, a family of cats, noticed and one yelled out to Tails asking if he was okay. Tails merely shrugged them off and continued his quick journey to Vanilla's. He almost broke into a run when he saw Vanilla's house in the distance. He stopped in front of the house and gasped for breath.
Cream's face greeted him when the door opened. As soon as she saw him, her face split into a big grin.
“Hello there Tails!” she said enthusiastically, ushering him inside. Tails settled on the sofa while Cream made Tails some tea, and made him feel welcome. Tails felt like Cream was going overboard. After all, he was only here to see that girl from the previous night.
“Where's your mom?” Tails managed to ask. Cream looked at Tails, feeling a little bit confused. For those few moments, she had really thought he was there to see her. She couldn't help but feel a little disappointed when she remembered that girl that lay upstairs and the fact that Tails, along with Amy, were the ones who found her. No doubt would he want to see her.
Cream sighed in a disappointed way, “She's upstairs checking on that girl.”
Tails' ears pricked up, alert. “Is she alright?”
Cream dug her toe into the carpet, focused on her feet, “Mom says she'll be okay… she woke up this morning.”
Tails nodded slowly, taking in all of what Cream had said. He could tell by the tone in her voice that she was disappointed that he had not come to see her, but to see the female she had found last night. Tails tried to keep himself from just rushing upstairs and demanding explanations, for he knew that would be just rude, and it might make Cream more disappointed. Tails just wished that there was a way to tell Cream that he didn't like her that way without hurting her feelings.
At that moment, Vanilla entered the room, tearing Tails from his thoughts. “Oh hello there Tails. Are you here to see that young girl?”
Tails nodded dumbly and Vanilla smiled sweetly at him, “She's upstairs. You can see her now if you want. She's awake.”
Tails gave Vanilla a thanking smile before walking up the stairs to confront this girl.

Sonic's quills whipped back in the wind as he sped along the fields. He breathed in fresh air and sighed. His feet left a trail of dust behind him. There was nothing to disturb him this morning. He knew Amy was asleep at this time of morning so she couldn't chase him. Not that she could keep up with him if he went at full speed. But to be truthful, Amy had been working out. She could run a little faster than what she used to, though not up to his speed.
He sighed, his thoughts now on Amy. Though the pink hedgehog proved annoying and persistent, he admired her for her determination and courage. Though in truth, Sonic felt they were both a lot safer when she wasn't pursuing him. Eggman had used her for bait before in the past after all. And it had almost always been him that had to come and bail her out. Not that he complained of course.
Sonic's ears perked up as he heard some suspicious whispering coming from not far off. He looked to his right and could have sworn he caught sight of some shadows behind one of the trees.
Rushing in to things without thinking was a trait of Sonic's possibly unchanged throughout the years since he began his battle against Eggman. And since Eggman's death four years ago, Sonic felt the need for a little excitement. The nearest thing to excitement the blue hedgehog got these days was challenging Shadow to battles of speed and skill.
Sonic revved up his feet and charged toward the tree to confront whatever was behind it.

She lay there in the bed, staring at the ceiling. True she felt grateful to the rabbit family for looking after her but she really had to go. She had to tell Sonic of what was going on. She tried to lift herself up with her arms but they collapsed beneath her. Her head hit the pillow again. She silently thanked that the pillow wasn't hard, she felt like she had taken enough damage already. She just had to find him. She had to warn him.
Suddenly the door began to open. Her eyes looked at the door, expecting to see Vanilla Rabbit again. But instead her eyes fell on a young male Mobian fox.

Tails for the first time, laid his eyes properly on the girl he had saved last night. For some reason, his heart began beating loudly. He blushed a little, fearing that he might be able to hear him. Suddenly, all the words Tails had organised in his head had been completely erased.
The young girl wasn't a Mobian, it was completely obvious. She wasn't an animal. In truth, she looked more like a plant. But Tails noted that she also looked kind of cute. She had leaf-like green hair which fell around her face. Deep pink roses were on her head where ears would have usually been. Her skin was a creamy colour with baby blue eyes that seemed to pierce Tails' own. He could see the girl's hands were small and delicate, with green sleeves.
She looked at Tails almost frightened, wondering vaguely why he was there instead of Vanilla. Tails was confused. Couldn't she remember him? Probably not, it was dark so she probably didn't see him all that clearly.
Tails edged closer to her as the girl continued to stare, “Who are you?” she asked almost timidly.
Tails noticed a slight fear in her voice and sighed, “It's okay I am a friend. I was one of the people who found you last night.”
The girl began to calm down and lowered the blanket that she hadn't noticed she had been clinging onto from around her neck. She didn't know what to say. She took in the appearance of the fox. He was tall, with light orange fur, baby blue eyes similar to her own, three thin bangs on his head, a furry white muzzle and stomach, and two swishing tails. This confused the plant girl. Weren't foxes only supposed to have one tail? The two-tailed fox edged nearer to her, but she didn't move.
“Who are you?” he asked nervousness in his voice. The girl looked at him and blinked, “And what do you want with Sonic?”
The girl's eyes brightened a little bit, “You know of Sonic the Hedgehog?” she asked hopefully.
“Do I ever! Sonic's my best friend! That's why I'm curious as to what you want him for.” Tails responded enthusiastically, his two tails swishing.
The girl hesitated, on the verge of telling him everything, but decided against it. It was best that she share the information only with Sonic. She didn't want what she had to tell him to leak out and cause panic. She shook her head at the fox.
“I can't say. I can only tell Sonic.”
Tails sighed. He had expected that she wouldn't tell him though he had prayed silently that she would. But he admitted defeat. To be honest, this girl didn't look like an evil threat. He didn't think she was capable of hurting anything. He sighed, deciding to change subject.
“You look like you've taken a beating.” he pointed out her wounds. The girl looked at him confused that he wasn't forcing information out of her, but decided that this fox wasn't that person. She smiled weakly at him, “I've taken worse beatings…”
She tried to lift herself up with her arms again but failed, collapsing again. Tails wasn't sure what he was doing, but he grabbed her hand, “Don't. You'll only hurt yourself even more than you already are,”
“But… I have to find Sonic…”
Tails sighed at the girl's persistence. It was a good quality in some people. Amy was also quite persistent in her chasing of Sonic, Cream was persistent in trying to get Tails to notice her in a different light, Sonic was persistent in keeping away from Amy… Persistence was a quality in most people. The girl gave in after a few more attempts and collapsed. She looked up at him, feeling helpless.
“So…” Tails pondered, deciding on finding more out about the girl, “What's your name?”
The girl hesitated so Tails decided to continue, “My name is Miles Prower, but everyone calls me Tails.”
The girl continued to say nothing, obviously considering Tails' question. Part of her felt it better to discuss this with Sonic first, but something else told her that she could trust this fox. After all, if what he said was true, he was Sonic's best friend. She eventually reached her decision and turned to Tails.
“Call me Cosmo.”

Something inside the pit of his stomach was telling him something wasn't right. He could sense these things, don't ask him how, but he could. He leaned up and glanced at his surroundings. The small apartment building he'd managed to rent out. His friend Rouge had talked him into buying it, considering his last place was a dump, not to mention all kinds of hooligans hung around there, smashing into people's homes and stealing their belongings. This apartment, however, was nicer and more peaceful, with decent space to live in, not that he ever was home.
Still, Shadow the Hedgehog couldn't shake off the feeling that something was coming, and that something wasn't friendly. He could sense Chaos Energy was possibly involved, negative Chaos Energy. The black and red hedgehog glanced out of the window at the streets below. Empty apart from a mother chimpanzee walking her rather naughty son home. His blood red eyes narrowed. Something definitely wasn't right.

Sonic edged closer to the tree, hoping to jump any enemy he found behind it by surprise. But as he edged closer, the shadows disappeared out of thin air. He sped behind the tree, hoping to see the face of an enemy. He gasped in shock to see not an enemy of any sort, not an ally, not a mere Mobian. Nothing. The blue hedgehog slapped his forehead, “Man, I must be losing it!” he exclaimed before streaking off again. As the blue hero sped away, a figure watched him disappear.
“So that is Sonic the Hedgehog…”

The girl named Cosmo glanced up at Tails again, almost on the verge of telling him everything. Her eyes watered and tears slipped out of her eyes, as she remembered that dreadful night. She had been unable to prevent them from doing what they wanted with her family and herself. The knowledge that she had been useless in saving them made her cry a little bit more.
Tails was beside himself, “Did I say something?” he asked, worried that he has hurt the girl's feelings.
“No it's just… just…” she sobbed, “I'm so lonely…”
Tails didn't know what to do. He hardly knew this girl but it felt like he had known her his whole life. It was almost as if he had been waiting for her to come into his and his friend's lives. He stroked her hand reassuringly as Cosmo tried to choke back tears.
“It's okay… I'm here I'm your friend…”
Cosmo looked at Tails with wet tears streaked across her face, and she had a weak smile on her face. She stared into his baby blue eyes with her own and whispered, “Thank you Tails…”
The girl lay back on the pillow with a faint smile on her lips and she yawned. To be honest, her energy felt drained. Though she knew she had to find Sonic soon, she also knew that she needed to regain energy. She glanced up at Tails, with watery blue eyes.
“If you see Sonic, could you tell him to come see me, and that it's urgent…”
Tails smiled and stroked Cosmo's leafy green hair as the girl closed her eyes and snoozed. Tails felt that she deserved it. Just by looking at her, Tails could only guess that she had a rough time. He merely stroked her hair. It felt nice and tingly to the fingertips, and it tickled him near the ends. He looked at her pretty face and a thought hit him, “Could she be… her?”
As Tails thoughts wandered to his dreams of finding that special girl, Cosmo escaped into dreams of her own. But not of the two figures that had been haunting her since her family died… but a peaceful dream that made her smile.

The figure glanced around before entering into the slimy guttered street. It was utterly abandoned, thank goodness. He didn't want to be seen. No doubt it would scare the residents of this planet. He walked up to a dingy building and punched the door as hard as his fist could muster. The blue door, paintwork scratched, fell on the floor with a loud bang.
“Can't you ever just knock?” said a gruff, menacing voice.
“You're going to like this big brother.” the figure muttered, approaching a sofa, on which he knew his brother was sitting.
“It better be good Skull,” he said in that same menacing voice that dripped with evil, “I'mbusy as you can see…”
“Well, you see, I've found him…”
