~Ahh… it tastes so good …~ Amy's punch splashed down her throat, giving her a cool rush of raspberries and iced tea. Although it was fairly cool outside, the only time she felt it's temperature was when it chose to buffet the surroundings. And besides, the party was taking place inside, and the wind wisped in only when it came close enough to the opened windows. It was late spring, and it was starting to get hotter. Which was good in Amy's opinion; the hotter it is, the more things you can do for romantic fun. Walks in a park, trips to the beach, and yes, even going to Twinkle Park.

“Hee hee; if Sonic is going to confess to you, he couldn't of picked a better time of year!” Cream said with a smile, taking a seat next to Amy on the sofa. It was as if she'd read Amy's mind, proof that they were meant to be such close friends. Amy nodded in agreement. “You're right Cream! But maybe we shouldn't count the chickens before the hatch; I mean, what if he wants to tell me something different? Like something totally different … like wanting help for something girly he knows I'd be good at, or telling me (god forbid) that he doesn't feel for me at all…”

Cream frowned at her friend's pessimism. Sonic for sure had something good to say; this wasn't an occasion to be glum for. The young rabbit shook her head in total disagreement. “Amy, how could you think that it might be bad? Mr. Sonic knows better than to get you all hyped up for nothing. Don't worry; I can guarantee that you're going to be VERY pleased tonight!!!” The young rabbit gave her friend, as well as mentor, a big smile of assurance and certainty. Amy couldn't help but return it. Cream was right; why would Sonic get her hopes up when he knows how crazy she is about him? He may be dense sometimes, but not THAT dense. He just possessed the natural naiveté of a guy. That was understandable, right? They both laughed gingerly.

The girls' giggles of excitement were interrupted by Vanilla, whom came with a pitcher to refill Amy and Cream's cups.

“Hello girls; you both look so wonderful tonight!” A delicate smile adorned her face, which the girls returned sweetly. “I suppose everyone will be showing up tonight? I hope you girls contacted everyone,” She continued, straightening her back as she finished pouring the sweet, cool liquid.

Amy nodded yes, sipping a bit of her iced tea. She swallowed quickly, then replied. “Everyone we contacted agreed to come; though we weren't able to get a hold of everyone.”

Vanilla frowned. “So then, who didn't you get a hold of?” She asked, disappointment apparent. “Rouge and Shadow,” Cream replied, disappointed as well. “Rouge seems to always be busy doing things like stealing jewels and other bad stuff; I'm not surprised she couldn't come, mother. But I don't know where Mr. Shadow would be…”

Vanilla shrugged it off with a sigh, still thankful that the rest of the group would be attending the get-together. Cream did the same, drinking her tea in little gulps; she was more interested in what was to come tonight. Amy felt the same, but couldn't help but wonder why Shadow was always so secretive, and what he could be using his time for….

-Meanwhile elsewhere-

The young, sullen hedgehog sighed deeply, his eyes locked on the resonating light of the moon. It was so beautiful; so majestic and calming. Lost in a sea of pitch-black as dark as his fur, the moon was what made the sky whole and what made it beautiful; what brought out the best in it, and made it shine. Even if the sky had it's stars here and there, dotted along in various patterns, the moon was still its ultimate possession.

He was just like the sky.

Of course he held the title of “Ultimate Life Form” ; he was looked at as strong, fast, and quite intelligent. He had many stars shining within him. But, he didn't have his moon; the thing that made his sky whole.

Of course he'd had Maria, but unfortunately she wasn't there with him. Time had continued without her, and unfortunately Shadow hadn't followed time either. He was still stuck, unable to forget the past and look to the future. He had only his sad, sullen self, and what was that to look forward to? The only good things he had were the memories of the good times from his past.

“Maria… you understood everything… you knew just the way everything should be, you knew just how I felt… damn it… why was it you who had to go?” The day she'd been taken away replayed over and over in his head every waking moment he had to spend leisurely. He'd loved Maria; it was no surprise. Of course, this didn't mean he was in love with her; Maria was more like a sister to him. A best friend. A daughter, and in a lot of ways, a mother. She was the most important person to him in all of the universe.

“If I had just one chance, one chance to bring you back…” The crimson-streaked hedgehog shifted his weight back to his arms, supporting himself as he continued to adore the sky on a steep, grassy cliff. “… I'm sure I'd feel complete.”

“Now, now, Shadow; no need to act so depressed. Maria passed away half a century ago.”

The onyx hedgehog quickly stood and turned to face his rude intruder. A low growl escaped from his throat, blood red eyes burning fiercely. “What the hell do you want!? I never asked you to listen in on my damn thoughts!” Shadow was already in a bad mood, and the last thing he needed was unwanted attention.

The intruder smirked. “Well then, perhaps you shouldn't state your thoughts aloud, Shadow.”

Shadow huffed, growing more and more irritated by the second. “What do my thoughts have to do with you anyway? Why are you even here?!”

A trademark guffaw boomed through the air, emitting from the intruder. It was Dr. Robotnik, And there was no way he was there to just chat. The Doctor fiddled with one of the ends of his mustache, twirling it in between his gloved fingers. “Shadow, I just happen to invent a very special machine, with you in mind. You see, I believe you have an enormous amount of power within you. There's just a lot of things that hold you back…” Shadow narrowed his eyes, retorting in a low growl. “So what, doctor? I never asked you to analyze me. get to your point already!” Robotnik frowned. “Don't be so rude, Shadow! What I'm about to tell you is unimaginably important! You see, I've invented a machine that could change your life forever, for the better. Something that would mean the world to you…”

Shadow shifted his weight from one side to the other, growing impatient. He got the point; the machine was “special”. But what did it do? Trying to sound as calm as possible, Shadow said in a low breath, “I'm listening…”

The doctor smirked manically at this point. “I've invented a machine that could bring back what you wallow in desperation for so much… a machine that could bring back Maria.” Shadows eyes shot wide open in an expression of surprise and disbelief, something his face rarely adorned. “You… you can do… what?!” He stepped closer to the doctor, not knowing what to think. Robotnik only smirked wider, knowing now that Shadow was wrapped around his finger.

“You heard right; I can bring back your dear Maria. All I need is a soul equal to hers, or at least equal enough. All the other items are being taken care of by Rouge… Are you for it or not?” Robotnik leaned back into his hovering seat, his eyes hooked sternly on shadow's ebony silhouette in the moonlight. Shadow thought for a moment, staring right back at the doctor with equally stern eyes; could he trust him? Or was this just a scam… but then again, what reason would the doctor have to do so? Shadow had always worked for the doctor, whenever it was convenient for him. He let out a low sigh, considering within himself the pros and cons. ~Hm… what should I do? Should I trust him? If I say yes to easily, then I'd be worse than that damned echidna... but what if the doctor is telling the truth? Even so, there must be a catch…~

Shadow shut his eyes, his expression still serious, crossing his arms firmly. He shifted his weight to the opposite side again, then asked, “What's the catch? I know you wouldn't do this out of the imaginary goodness in your heart.” Robotnik held his stare, as well as his smirk. “Well Shadow, you're quite correct; I do want something in return, but it should be simple enough for you, having such motivation. The one thing I want from you in return is the dead body of Sonic the hedgehog.”

Shadow cocked an eyebrow. He hadn't expected this. Of course Sonic was his arch-enemy, but usually the doctor preferred a rare item of some sort, or something else such as blowing up a military base. Either way, Shadow had decided he would agree. And, if the doctor planned to go back on his word, it would be very unfortunate for him. The onyx, crimson streaked hedgehog smirked devilishly. “Alright; the dead body of Sonic the hedgehog. In return, you bring Maria back.”

The doctor chuckled in agreement, playing with his mustache tips once again. “Good. I'm glad to see that you're agreeing with me here. But of course, as I said before, I'm going to need an equal soul to Maria's… hold on a moment as I locate someone who fits those standards…”

Shadow watched for a moment as the doctor pressed different buttons on a little keyboard, located on the edge of his gliding contraption. He soon tapped his foot impatiently, irritated at the length of time this was taking. ~Damn doctor… couldn't he find a faster way to do this…?~

He continued to wait, sighing with more irritation. Finally, the doctor broke the silence. He'd found a match. A near perfect match.

“Well now… this is interesting… the person whom I need you to recover, alive, is…”

“Amy!!! Sonic is here, and he wants to see his little miss Amy rose!!”

To be continued!!!!!!
