Chapter 15

Deep in Marron's mind (and the others' as well) the merging was being completed at a faster pace. He saw the world Yaksha had came from. He saw a beautiful world full of grace and joy. And he saw how war had torn apart that world. He learned the history of Hakaishin; how he had been forced to serve the invading army and caused destruction and chaos wherever he went.

They accepted all the memories the four Guardians gave them while merging with their counterparts. They accepted the good with the bad, felt new strength surging through their bodies. New pathways opened in their minds. Synapses forming new connections, boosting their intelligence to above average and their speed to slightly faster than normal. All the skills and abilities of their counterparts they now possess as the merging continued.

Hours later, Stella and the others still paced downstairs. They wondered what was happening to the children. Occasionally they sat down only to jump back up at the slightest noise. She hoped and prayed that things would be alright. She had wanted to be one of the chosen, to spare the children. However, she agreed with the choices the being's had made. She knew that Carrot had no better protectors than those four.

Hearing laughter coming down the stairs, they glanced at each other before rushing out of the room. They felt weak with relief upon seeing the smiling faces of the children as they laughed and ran down the stairs. She marveled at laughter shining in Marron's eyes as he chased Carrot down the stairs while yelling at him. The two boys were swiftly followed by a Tira, Chocolate, and Gateau, all of whom were laughing.

She frowned when she noticed that Marron looked wet as if someone had poured…and began to snicker, realizing that that was exactly what Carrot must had done to Marron. The others, catching her amusement, had also figured out why Marron was chasing Carrot and threatening him.

Carrot ran laughing to Mama, hiding behind her body and ducking Marron's long reach. Shrieking with laughter, he ran dodged around Mama and ran behind the couch, making sure Marron couldn't get him.

"But you wouldn't get up," he protested, laughing at the mock rage on his brother's face.

"But you didn't have to pour water all over me," Marron said, laughter in his eyes, glad to finally see the shadows gone from his niisan's eyes. He dodged left, making Carrot dodge right.

"I read somewhere that you're supposed to wake people up with water," Carrot retorted, still giggling. The others continued laughing as Carrot continued to elude Marron.

"But a basin?!" Marron cried out in mock anger, jumping over the couch and tackling the giggling boy to the floor. The others roared with laughter as Marron firmly squashed his wet clothes all over Carrot's struggling body. His niisan shook with laughter. He pulled him into a hug, and, for the first time in months, felt that everything was right in the world.
