Chapter 3 -
----------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------
The light of the sun fell on Alex's slumbering form; she groaned in protest at the light and opened her eyes painfully. She had not slept well that night; her dreams were plagued with images of blood and violence, she was only able to sleep at all because of the pleasant thoughts of her hero from before. She knew he and Static went to check on her last night, she didn't know how she knew but she did. Somehow it made her feel safe rather then nervous like any other normal person.
She stretched out and gut up, she proceeded to do her normal morning activities. At one point however, something very abnormal happened; she went to reach for her cup rinsing and the water sprang from the cup and into her hand as if she had called it to her. She jerked back in surprise and looked at her hand, nothing unusual, just a wet hand. She put her palm out experimentally and beckoned the cup, it rattled but then nothing.
She frowned but chose to ignore this event, for now. She shrugged and got ready for the day, when she was down she skipped steps and flew by her mom to grab some toast then headed to the front door. Her mom stood there continuing her normal morning events as if it was a normal, every day thing to see her daughter run at break-neck speed through the kitchen and out.
“Bye mom I'm heading off now!” Alex called over her shoulder as she snatched her motorcycle keys from the coffee table and ran out the door. It was 8:17 and she lived 20 minutes from school, this would be a long day if she were late again. Her motorcycle roared to life and she sped off. She stopped at a red light like a good driver should, silently cursing it for delaying her, as she waited she noticed Virgil Hawkins and Richie Foley, she turned to look at them, they were 2 cars away from her but she could somehow see them crystal clearly.
She peered at Virgil, there was something about him, he looked just like Static… she turned to look at Richie and had the same strange feeling; he looked just like Gear… could it be? She furrowed her eyebrows but couldn't look too much into it as the light turned green and she had to continue.
When she got to school she quickly parked, snatched her bad and ran into the building. Unfortunately she was not paying much attention to where she was going and ran smack into Richie. “Ooff, hey watch where you're- oh… um, Hi…” Richie said sheepishly, recognizing the blushing girl before him. Alex stepped backward to let him stand and blushed again. How could this guy be affecting her so much? She never had this sort of reaction for anyone before. She cleared her throat to compose herself and gave him a brilliant smile, a little astonished to see him blush, could he possible like her??
Richie had never seen such a beautiful smile. He suddenly had the suspicion that his “best friend” was laughing behind his back; he turned to look and sure enough Virgil was trying to contain his laughter, Richie glared at him but turned to smile back to an amused looking Alex.
Feeling more confident Alex put out her hand, “I don't believe we were properly introduced. Hey, I'm Alex.” She said, her smile reaching her green eyes, making them sparkle like emeralds. Richie felt his heart hammer against his ribs, the only other time he felt like he was feeling was when his one, true, most favorite comic ended in a cliff hanger and the sequel was about to come out, but this must have been 50 times more!
He tried to keep his cool, at least on the outside, and straightened himself, he grinned and gently took her hand, “Charmed.” He said and laid a soft kiss on her knuckles, “My given name is Richard but PLEASE call me Richie.” He said in a dramatic, Shakespearian way, Alex couldn't stop herself from giggling at his antics,
“Alright Richie, it's nice to meet you, oh and thanks for the pencil yesterday in math class… math class- oh no! We're going to be late!” she said and together they took off down the quickly emptying halls. Luckily, they arrived just on time as the late bell rang. They sat down out of breath. Virgil grinned at Alex,
“Damn girl, you should go for track! I've never seen someone run that fast!” he said, mentally adding `except speedwarp…', Alex smiled bashfully,
“Y-Yeah, uh thanks, I work out…” she said, although she DID in fact work out that was not the true reason why she was fast. Alex turned to Richie,
“So… you have a pencil I could borrow?” she asked with a sheepish grin, Richie laughed and nodded, retrieving the same mechanical pencil from yesterday. He suddenly remembered the diary…
