A/N: Hmm they're getting closer eh? Hehe… I actually drew a fairly decent picture of Ion but I lack photo-shop on my laptop while my computer is down and am too lazy to edit all the pencil marks and messes with paint so you people will just have to wait to see it!

Chapter Eight: Kidnapped!
----------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------

School went by quickly the next day and the three friends waited eagerly to hang out together. They spent the whole after noon together but Virgil and Richie both had to go after Richie's wrist device made some beeping sounds.

“What's that?” she asked him. He seemed to get nervous and stutter.

“Oh nothing… just a uh beeper like device I made, it…” he thought a moment what he could say. “It tells us when our parents need us… it works for either, err anyway, we gotta go bye!” Richie said in a rush and left before he had to explain further how it worked.

“Sorry Alex, we'll catch you later!” Virgil said.

”Hold up Rich!” he called as he ran after him. Alex frowned thoughtfully. But shrugged and decided to go home. When she reached her house she fell on her couch groaning in frustration because she forgot Virgil had picked her up and taken them to school that day and she had no way back home except to walk.

Her mom came up to her about half an hour later, the smell of baked goods wafted through the room. “Alex honey could you go to the store and get a bag of chocolate chips? I forgot to get it when I went this morning… You can't have chocolate-chip cookies without the chocolate!” her mom said and smiled, hearing her father concur with an “Mmm” from the kitchen. “You stay out of the dough for the next batch!” she called to her husband. A sound of chuckle was heard before Mrs. McCoy turned back to her daughter.

Alex shrugged and smiled. “Sure mom, I'll be right back.” She said and got up, grabbing her helmet from the closet and getting her bike. Alex must have been a few blocks away from the store when suddenly a van drove next to her, opened up and two men grabbed her. She gasped and quickly reached in her pocket to speed dial a number to someone who she knew would know what to do… at least she hoped so…

Virgil and Richie had just come back from a fight with the newly-gassed Talon and lounged in the gas station. “I feel bad for tricking Alex like that again…” Richie said somberly. Virgil nodded.

“Yeah I agree… but if we want to keep hiding our identities from her…” he trailed off. Richie scoffed.

“Why are we still hiding? We're suppose to be helping her!” he said a little put off. Virgil nodded then jumped when his pocket vibrated. He picked up his phone and flipped it open.

“Virgil spea-” he cut himself off as he heard the other line.

“LET ME GO!” He heard Alex yell as another voice growled at her and the sound of a smack against flesh was heard.

“SHUT UP!” said the male voice.

“HELP!” They heard her screen then the line died… Richie and Virgil looked at each other with an identical look of pure horror. Richie was up and working on tracking the signal from the phone faster then you could say “Mega-mechanic”… Virgil paced as Richie worked. Once he was done they put their guises over their faces once more and shot out from their hide-out.

“Thankfully her cell is one of those new ones with GPS, it wasn't hard to track it… okay, she should be…. There!” he pointed to an old looking apartment building. They crash into the buildings and punch first and ask questions later. They had startled the three, hooded men from their act of doing something neither Richie or Virgil could bare thinking of. Luckily they didn't get far at all.

“YOU BASTARDS!” Richie bellowed as he repeatedly punched the knocked out face of the man that had been on top of an unconscious Alex. He only stopped when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up and saw the face of his grim looking partner. Grim not because Richie almost beat the man to death but because of how guilty he felt for leaving Alex alone… Richie must have felt the same way because he slumped and tears ran down his eyes freely. “We should have been there V! We should have protected her!!” he cried. Virgil squeezed his friends shoulder.

“We got here on time Rich.” He said softly. Richie shook his head stubbornly.

“What if she didn't have her cell phone!! WHAT IF WE COULDN'T STOP THEM FROM RAPING HER?!” he cried fiercely, lowering his head and shaking as he cried. Virgil didn't know what to say, Richie was right… if they hadn't gotten here to help her…

“Look Richie. We stopped them, she's safe and… still pure… what you say could have happened didn't… just, come on, let's take her home…” he said, trying to stimulate his best-friend to move. Richie sniffled but nodded and stood. He wiped his eyes from under his helmet and turned his gaze to the one girl he would give his soul for lying helpless on the old mattress. He walked to her and lifted her in his arms, holding her tight and sighing in relief.

Gear and Static took off from the ruined apartment, leaving an anonymous tip for the cops. It was late and Alex's parents had to be worried by now. The two heroes landed softly in Alex's front yard and knocked on the door. When Mrs. McCoy opened the door to see the two resident Super heroes and one holding her unconscious daughter she gasped and dropped the cup of tea she had been holding.

“We're sorry to bother you Ma'am… your daughter was kidnapped… we were able to reach her on time before something bad happened.” Virgil explained.

“Oh my God!” The aging woman exclaimed. Richie stepped forward.

“Where is her room?” he asked softly. Mrs. McCoy normally would have never allowed a young man, hero or not, to carry her daughter to her room alone but with the look in the eyes behind the mask of the young man before her and the way he held her so protectively she understood how safe she was with this boy.

“Upstairs to the left… second door on the right side of the hall…” She said and watched Gear walk through the house taking purposeful steps. Static nodded respectfully at her and followed Gear up. Alex groaned and her eyes fluttered open. She gasped when she saw Gear looking down at her and then realized he was caring her to her bed. She flushed tomato red at a thought that went along with that realization but shoved it away quickly. Gear gently placed her on the bed. She sat up and shifted her gaze back and forth from the two heroes standing in her room… once again they had saved her…

“But how??” she began asking but stopped when Gear gave her a familiar looking slow and soft smile.

“Your friends Virgil and Richard-” Gear began but was cut off softly.

“Richie.” She clarified, blushing slightly. Gear smiled and nodded.

“Right Richie, they told us what had happened to you after Virgil received a phone call…” he explained and Static went on.

“They told us where to take you…” he said.

“We did it because they're… friends of ours, besides, we'd never let low-lifes like them hurt people, especially pretty girls like you…” Gear finished and smiled. Alex was slightly put off by the slightly sexist suggestion but knew he didn't mean it that way…

The two said their goodbyes and left through the front door. Richie had given her a side-long look before he followed Virgil out of the door. Alex groaned and fell against her bed. `How can I be falling for two guys!!' she thought in exasperation.

Later the next day at school Alex gasped as she was bombarded by hugs from the two boys. “Oh my gosh are you okay Alex?!?!?” Virgil asked desperately. Alex smiled at them, overjoyed that they cared for her so much.

“I'm fine… Static and Gear saved me…” she said giving them a look.

“Did they? Well how about that they got our message!” Richie said and grinned happily. Alex rested her eyes on him and he fidgeted under her scrutiny.

“Do I have something on me?” he asked. Alex suddenly smiled and shook her head as if not realizing she was staring at him.

“No… hey I know, after school let's go shoot some hoops!” she said out of the blue. The two males once again gave her a peculiar look. She laughed and jogged down the hall to their class. “Come on slow pokes!” She called. The two looked at each other in bewilderment, shrugged and chased after her.

“We're coming to get you!” Virgil asked as they ran down the halls. Richie picked up speed and Alex squealed in delight as she escaped their grasps. Soon she let them catch her and they both gave her bear hugs. She laughed.

“I can't breathe!” she said with mirth. They grinned and let go of her. The three went to their class and school began. School seemed to go by quickly lately, since the three became best-buddies. Soon school was over once again and Alex dragged the two baffled males to the basket-ball court.

“You weren't joking?” Virgil asked. She gave him a look.

“Of course not, why would I be?” she asked. Virgil shrugged then grinned.

“You sure you can play us? We're tough…” he said, his ego flaring. Alex snorted and grinned broadly.

“We'll see about that!” she said. The three began their game but at one point Richie had to stop as his mind began to wander. He watched Alex swing her hips back and forth as she tried to block Virgil from knocking the ball from her hands. He swallowed hard as he watched her sway, her legs bent and shirt sticking to her body as the sun beat down mercilessly on them.

He felt a twitch at the thought of her moving her hips in a similar way but under him and he began to pant. He shook his head and tried to clear his mind. He glared at the direction of the sun. `It must be the heat, yeah that's it…' he reasoned and sat down at the bench nearby, watching his two best friends dodge each other, laughing and competing. Suddenly they stop and look at him.

Alex was panting from the fun game as she walked up to Richie, Virgil in tow. “What's wrong Richie? Tired already?” she asked, leaning slightly to the side as she stood with a hand on her hip and the other holding the ball against her. Richie shook his head to clear it from his very inappropriate thoughts and smiled sheepishly at her.

“Yeah I guess…” he said, his practiced, super-advanced-mind able to cage the thoughts from popping up again.

“Well… it is getting kind of late. We should head home.” Virgil suggested. Richie nodded.

“Yeah… Good idea…” He said and looked away, feeling slightly uneasy. Virgil must have seen something. He frowned thoughtfully and turned to Alex.

“Alex, can I walk you home?” He offered. Alex was a little disappointed that Richie didn't ask to do such but decided he had to have a reason.

“Sure Virgil!” She said, smiling at the young man she saw as the brother she always wanted. She loved her own brother but ever since… she sighed inwardly at the sad thought smiled again.

“You two go on… I'm not feeling too well, I think I'll just head straight to bed…” he said and stuffed his hands in his pocket as he walked off. He felt crummy for not offering to walk her but he was worried about his state of mind lately. Not only could he simply not get his mind off her but it was starting to wander. Besides, he truly wasn't feeling well. `I gotta stop wearing so much in this heat… I'll get a heat-stroke if I keep it up.' He pondered and waved over his shoulder when his best-friend and woman he was falling in love with said goodbye to him.

He paused in his thoughts. `Do I really love her?' he asked himself. He frowned thoughtfully then sighed. `I guess I do…' he thought and a blush spread across his face. This was going to be a long night…
