Episode 4: Sports Craze

Agh... finally, Wednesday is over! The shurikens have stopped, and I'm the common sleepyhead like I usually am on school days. But that doesn't stop others from waking up early, like what happened this morning.
-Hawk wakes up.
Hawk: "RISE AND SHINE! IT'S 7:00! TIME TO GET READY FOR SCHOOL!"
-Kiyobi barely opens eyes and checks the clock beside his bed (3:45 AM)
Kiyobi (mumbly): "Go back to sleep, ya dolt!"
-Kiyobi throws clock at Hawk's head, knocking him over backwards, foot sticking up and twitching.
-Hawk gets up. (Noticable lump can be seen on his head)
Hawk: "Hey! What was that for?!"
-Hawk checks clock.
Hawk: "Huh. No wonder why the sun's not up yet."
-Hawk leaves the bedroom. Shower is heard, alongside Hawk's singing.
Oh my god, you wouldn't believe how terrible a singer Hawk is. Maybe it's just the shower capsule, but oh my god it was so unbearable!
Kiyobi: "SHUT UP HAWK!!!!!!!"
-Silence.
Kiyobi: "Hmph."
-Kiyobi lies back down.
Man, I hate this problem I have. When I wake up, I can never go back to sleep until nighttime or unless someone slips sleeping medicine into my food.
Kiyobi: "Argh. Stupid Hawk."
I try and go to sleep, but it never works. So I just lie down in my bed and kill time. I gain energy that way, too.
*Time cut: 4:00 AM*
-Hawk enters the room.
Hawk: "Ahh, nothing lke a good shower. Good night."
Good night?! IT'S FOUR IN THE MORNING!!! gah... I'm not even gonna bother.
-Hawk falls asleep.
I'll just kill time until I get energy to wake up. Then I'll brew some coffee or grab a cup of latte' in the fridge for some caffeine... Then... I'll find something to do until the time comes.
*Time cut: 5:00 AM*
-Kiyobi gets out of bed and stretches a bit.
Kiyobi: "ahh... time to grab some coffee."
-Kiyobi walks to the kitchen and searches the refirgerator. He then pulls out a cup of prepared coffee and pops it in the microwave for a few seconds. While the microwave works, Kiyobi searches for some half & half.
*Beeeep... Beeeep...*
-Kiyobi pulls out the coffee and stirs in some half & half.
Kiyobi: *sniffs* "Mmm... smells good..."
-Kiyobi sips a bit...
Kiyobi: "YEOW!!!!"
-Kiyobi jumps in a frenzy, falling over and spilling his coffee on his clothes.
Kiyobi: "AAAACK!!! HO-O-O-O-OT!!!!! IT BURNS!!!!!"
-Ms. Kawazaki enters the kitchen, rubbing her eyes.
Ms. Kawazaki: "mmm... Kiyobi... you're going to wake up the whole neighborhood yelling like that. What's the matter?"
Kiyobi: "Coffee... hot... spill... clothes... burning... OW OW OW OW!!!!"
*Time cut*
Ms. Kawazaki: "Tsk tsk... you know better than to drink coffee straight from the microwave."
Kiyobi: "Sorry, mom."
Ms. Kawazaki: "I'll make some fresh coffee for you right now."
-Ms. Kawazaki starts scouring the kitchen for coffee ingredients.
Oh man... that had to be the hottest thing I've ever sort of drank. That was like licking the sun on a stick, I bet it marked my tounge for life!
Ms. Kawazaki: "Here you go."
-Ms. Kawazaki passes a cup of coffee to Kiyobi.
Kiyobi: "Thanks, mom."
-Clock shows 5:35 AM.
Man... it's only 5:35.
-Kiyobi sips a bit of coffee.
Kiyobi: "Mmm... that's tasty."
-Kiyobi searches the cupboard for some bread and pops a couple of slices into the toaster. Then he searches he fridge for some sliced meat.
Kiyobi: "Hmm... salami? No... chicken? No... pastrami? Eh... not today."
-Toaster pops out toast.
Kiyobi: "Yes! We got ham!"
-Kiyobi pulls out some ham and sandwiches it in bread. Then he cuts the sandwich across into triangles.
Kiyobi: "Nothing beats a good toasted honey cured ham sandwich."
*Time cut: 7:45*
Yeah, I'll spare you the morning details. So we arrive at school a little early, just in time to meet the girls we met before.
Cream: "Good morning Kiyobi!!!"
Kiyobi: "Morning. How was the quiz yesterday?"
Cream: "I passed! Check it out! An 80!"
Kiyobi: "Cool!"
Cream: "Thanks to you!"
-Cream hugs Kiyobi.
Kiyobi: "Heh... it was nothing... just... stop... squeezing... can't... bre..."
-Cream lets go, Kiyobi passes out, falling backwards. Everything blurs out into black.

-Kiyobi starts gasping, then coughing.
Hawk (echoey): "Hey, Kiyobi's back!"
Whoa... what's going on...
Aurelli (echoey): "She's got a tight grip."
Cream (echoey): "Oh my god, this is all my fault..."
-Cream smiles.
Kiyobi (distant): "Whoa... pretty colors..."
-Kiyobi appears disoriented and dizzy.
Xyrho (echoey): "Kiyobi, how many fingers am I holding up?"
-Xyrho holds up his thumb and his pinky.
Kiyobi (distant): "Ooh... rainbowy monkeys..."
-Kiyobi faints again. Everything blurs out.

Cream?: "Kiyobi? Kiyobi...? Wake up..."
-Kiyobi starts to open his eyes.
Kiyobi: "W-where am I...?"
???: "I think he's starting to recover."
Kiyobi: "C-Cream...? And..."
When I woke up, I found Cream sitting beside me and Dr. Hiruko, the school nurse.
Dr. Hiruko: "Ah... I see he's regained consciousness."
Cream: "Kiyobi, I'm so sorry."
Kiyobi: "For what?"
Cream: "All this shock wouldn't have happened if I hadn't hugged you that tightly."
Kiyobi: "Relax... it's not a big deal..."
Dr. Hiruko: "Um... I guess I'll leave you two alone for a bit."
-Dr. Hiruko leaves the room.
Cream: "It is a big deal. Commotion spread across campus! Everyone knows!"
Kiyobi: "Meh... doesn't bother me."
-Kiyobi sits up.
Cream: "So, are you still going to enter in the Sports Fair?"
Kiyobi: "Oh yeah... it's today, isn't it?!"
Cream: "Yeah."
-Dr. Hiruko enters.
Dr. Hiruko: "You can return to class, Kiyobi."
Kiyobi: "Thanks, doc."
-Dr. Hiruko leaves.
Kiyobi: "What time is it?"
-Cream checks her watch.
Cream: "It's 9:20. Still first period."
Kiyobi: "All right."
-Kiyobi gets off bed.
Cream: "You sure you're going to be okay?"
Kiyobi: "I'll be fine."
-Kiyobi and Cream leave the office.
Kiyobi: "Are you sure you were allowed just to sit with me the whole time? Can't that be considered truancy?"
Cream: "Well, I was so worried about you, I couldn't help myself..."
Kiyobi: "Oh man... what are you going to do then?"
Cream: "I don't know..."
Kiyobi: "Maybe you should talk to Dr. Hiruko. Maybe he can write an excuse note for you."
Cream: "Great idea! I'll see you later then."
Kiyobi: "All right. Later!"
-Cream hugs Kiyobi.
Cream: "Later!"
-Cream returns to the nurse's office.
I hope she fares through that all right. But for me, I gotta get back to class!
-Kiyobi enters Mr. Motsu's classroom.
Mr. Motsu: "Kiyobi! Good to see you're well."
Kiyobi: "Thank you."
Mr. Motsu: "You didn't miss much. We were just discussing changes of states of matter."
Kiyobi: "I see."
Mr. Motsu: "Go ahead and take your seat."
-Kiyobi takes his seat.
Xyrho: "Man, Cream's got a grip on you, huh?"
Kiyobi: "Guess it shows when you're close. Know what I mean?"
Xyrho: "Yeah. Man... didn't that hurt, though?"
Kiyobi: "I just got to get used to it."
Xyrho: "Better get used to it fast. Heh."
*Time cut: 10:00 AM*
P.A.: "Attention everyone."
-Lecture stops.
P.A.: "In case you don't know already, today, we're having a Sports Fair. In light of this, periods 3 and 4 have been cancelled."
Yes! I get to skip Ginkei's class!
P.A.: "So, I ask everyone to gather in the auditorium after lunch period ends today. That is all."
-Shamoo raises her hand.
Ms. Hinata: "Yes, Shamoo?"
Shamoo: "What's a sports fair?"
Boy: "That's a stupid question!"
Ms. Hinata: "Gary, to the principal's office. Now."
Gary: "Aww..."
-Gary leaves the classroom.
I swear... immature people these days. Shamoo's new, you can't blame her asking that!
Ms. Hinata: "Anyway, where was I... oh yes. Sports fair. A sports fair is basically a pep rally in the US. But these fairs are sort of different. Diamond High holds intramural sports leagues throughout the year."
Shamoo: "Oh, I see. So these fairs also have like the kickoff show to the leagues?"
Ms. Hinata: "You could say that."
Shamoo: "Where can I go to join a team?"
Ms. Hinata: "After the main assembly, basically the rest of the school day is free, so you can gather up friends to form a team or join another team. You register with the school coach of that sport."
Shamoo: "Cool!"
Ms. Hinata: "I suppose that sums the fair up nicely. Anyway, back to our discussion..."
And Ms. Hinata continues on with her lectures. Seriously though, her lectures are like listening to someone paraphrasing the textbook. Not to offend her or anything, I'm just saying, I'd rather read the book.
*Time cut: Lunchtime*
Kiyobi: "So... any of you planning to be on one of those intramural teams?"
Xyrho: "I'm thinking about it."
Hawk: "Same here." *eats a piece of sushi*
Aurelli: "I don't know. I'm already on the archery team."
Cream: "Sounds like fun, but I'm no good at sports."
Shamoo: "Sign me up for basketball!"
Kiyobi: "I got it! How about we start a basketball team? It's all for good fun, right?"
Shamoo: "Count me in!" Hawk: "All right!"
Xyrho: "We got nothing to lose." Cream: "Why not?"
Kiyobi: "It's settled! Now we just need a team name..."
-Everyone starts thinking, while grabbing bites of lunch.
Xyrho: "Yellow Lightning?"
Everyone: "Nah."
Shamoo: "How about The Fantastic Five?"
Everyone: "Nah."
-Moment of thinking...
Hawk: "Basketball Breakers!"
Everyone: "eh... nah."
Kiyobi: "The Hedgehogs?"
Everyone: "Nah."
Cream: "I got it! The Transfers!"
-Tick tock, tick tock...
Everyone: "Nah."
Kiyobi: "Elemental Force?"
Xyrho: "Sounds like an old kiddies show."
Kiyobi: "You're right."
-Moment of thinking...
Hawk: "What about 'That Team'?"
Kiyobi: "Hey, I like it."
Xyrho: "It's got a pun in it."
Shamoo: "Yeah!"
Cream: "All right!"
Kiyobi: "It's settled! We're 'That Team'!!!"
Oh man... can you imagine how confusing that could be when they do commentator on that?
Everyone: "Yeah!"
Aurelli: "Uh, guys?"
Shamoo: "Yeah?"
Aurelli: "Are you going to finish your lunches?"
Kiyobi: "Why do you ask?"
Aurelli: "Because lunch ends in..." *checks watch* "...seven minutes."
Hawk: "Oh. Right."
-Everyone continues eating at normal paces.
Kiyobi: "Let's all meet here after the assembly, agree?"
Everyone: "All right."
-Bell rings.
Aurelli: "Okay, I need to get to class."
-Aurelli puts away lunchbox.
Aurelli: "See you guys later."
-Everyone says goodbye.
Xyrho: "Wait, why did she have to go so early? We got that assembly next."
Kiyobi: "She's on the archery team, right?"
Hawk: "Right."
Kiyobi: "They get involved in the rally in a way. You'll see what I mean."
So I lead everyone into the auditorium, where the entire place was packed to the brim. It wasn't very comfortable, I'll tell you that much.
-Screen shows the crew sitting in two different rows of bleachers: Kiyobi, Xyrho, and Cream in the back and Hawk and Shamoo in front of them.
Hawk: "Man, this seat's got a bump in it or something..."
Xyrho: "Sorry, that was my shoe."
After about 20 minutes of scattered conversations, the MC of the rallies, Mr. Motsu, kicked off the rally.
Mr. Motsu: "Is this thing on... Right. What's up Diamond High!"
-Crowd cheers wildly.
I didn't pay much attention to the whole thing, I was sleepy as hell today thanks to Mr. Shugo. So yeah, I did doze off until Hawk woke me up when the archery team was introduced.
Hawk: "Hey, Kiyobi!"
Kiyobi: *mumble* "...what..."
Hawk: "They're calling out the archery team!"
Kiyobi (wakes up): "W-Wha?"
Mr. Motsu: "And to introduce our newest spring sports team, please welcome our archery team coach, Shiroza Akai!"
Now, this was the first time I saw the archery coach. He was kinda short but not stubby at all. Like a midget, but with noticable growth.
Shiroza: "How's it going Diamond High?"
-Crowd cheers.
Shiroza: "I'm Shiroza Akai, your archery coach, like Mr. Motsuwawaguegira has already said. I'm sure you all heard all about it? Well, probably not, since this is probably the first time you heard about us. We're the newest team for Diamond High, so this is our first season ever, and it's going to kick off in a coupld of weeks. But enough about me, let's give it up for your archery team!"
Shiroza: "Please step up as I call your name... Higura Jirezu."
-Higura steps up and waves, getting cheers in return.
Shiroza: "Ken Higake."
-Ken steps up and gets cheers.
Shiroza: "Minami Weild."
-Minami comes up and gets cheers.
Shiroza: "And we're lucky to have this talented girl on our team. She just transferred in only three days ago, and when you see her take that bow, you'll see how skilled this girl is. Please give it up for Aurelli Yumeni!"
-Aurelli stands up, everyone cheers, especially her friends, who cheer really loud.
Hawk: "Yeah Aurelli!!!"
Kiyobi: "Aurelli!"
Xyrho: "Yeah!!!"
Cream: "Go Aurelli!"
Shamoo: "You go girl!!!"
Shiroza: "Give it up once more for the archery team!"
-Cheers again.
Mr. Motsu: "Thank you, Coach Akai. All right, this concludes our rally, hope you enjoy the rest of your free day. And don't forget, we have our intramural leagues coming up for all spring sports! So if think you and your friends are the best, head to the sport coach and sign up!"
Whoo... man, all that cheering takes it out of you, you know? So when the assembly ended, we all regathered at our lunch table.
Aurelli: "Did I look any good out there?"
Hawk: "You looked great!"
Aurelli: "Why thank you, Hawk."
-Hawk's face turns pinkish-red, and falls over sideways. Aurelli laughs modestly.
Kiyobi: "Yeah, I think they cheered on you the most."
Aurelli: "You think so?"
Kiyobi: "Yeah. Sounded like it to us."
Xyrho: "Anyway, shouldn't we be registering our team?"
Kiyobi: "Oh right, let's go!"
-Everyone starts walking, but Kiyobi stops.
Kiyobi: "Someone grab Hawk."
-Xyrho and Kiyobi start dragging Hawk by the legs.
Hawk: "Hey! Ow! Wait! Stop!!!"
*Time cut*
Kiyobi: "Coach Juko!"
That's the basketball coach, Hiro Juko. He's an excellent basketball coach, he led us to two consecutive titles. We're defending our title this year.
Hiro: "Yes?"
Kiyobi: "We'd like to sign up for the intramural league."
Hiro: "Oh. Great! Just fill this form out and we're all set."
-Hiro hands over a sheet of paper.
Kiyobi: "Got it. I'll get it done right now."
Hiro (friendly): "Don't rush it!"
Kiyobi: "So... team name, members, captain... basically it."
Xyrho: "Who's gonna be captain?"
Cream: "I vote Kiyobi!"
Shamoo: "I vote Xyrho."
Hawk: "I vote Kiyobi. He knows the most about Diamond High out of all of us."
Xyrho: "I agree. Kiyobi should be captain."
Kiyobi (sweatdrop): "Uh... you sure? I really suck at leading things..."
Seriously, I'm not! Last time I lead something, it came crashing down like a ton of bricks on Jupiter.
Cream: "You'll do fine!"
Kiyobi: "Well... all right, then!"
-Kiyobi fills out form.
Kiyobi: "Here you go, coach."
-Coach Juko inspects the form."
Hiro: "That Team?"
Kiyobi (innocent ^_^ face): "We ran out of ideas."
Hiro: "I like it."
-Hiro puts form with stack of other forms.
Kiyobi: "Does that mean we're in?"
Hiro: "Yep. Good luck out there!"
Everyone: "Thank you, Coach!"
Hiro: "No problem!"
-Everyone walks away from Coach Hiro in a random direction.
Kiyobi: "I can't wait to crush the competition!"
Cream: "Uh, hello? Guys? I don't know how to play basketball."
Kiyobi: "You don't?!"
Cream: "Well, I know the rules, I just need to get the actual playing down."
Kiyobi: "Well, you guys want to practice?"
Everyone: "Sure."
Kiyobi: "Cool! Now, we need a basketball..."
Shamoo: "I got one!"
-Shamoo pulls out a basketball out of her backpack.
Hawk (sweatdrop): "You carry that with you everywhere?"
Shamoo: "No. Only in school."
Kiyobi: "Let's get started, then!"
So the training begins. And it was only like around... 2:30. We got a good hours worth of basketball, and Cream got the basics of dribbling and shooting down. I also got to show off what I call my "Sniper Shot". I got this sort of "gift" that makes me throw or kick a ball at incredible heights. I once won a two on two with a cross-court shot at the buzzer. Man, you wouldn't have believed the looks on their faces! We also got to play a basic round of three on three. The girls won, actually. I was just going easy on them, though.
-Bell rings.
P.A.: "School dismissed! See you on Monday!"
Shamoo: "Monday? What about Friday?"
Kiyobi: "We have no school tomorrow. Faculty Inservice."
I still don't have a damn clue what a "Faculty inservice" actually is, but who cares? We get a day off!
Cream: "You guys wanna get together like on Saturday and hang out?"
Kiyobi: "Sounds great to me!"
Hawk: "Sure!" Xyrho: "All right."
Aurelli: "I'm in." Shamoo: "Sure!"
Cream: "All right! I'll call you guys, then."
Aurelli: "Okay."
Cream: "Wait, you don't have my number, do you?"
Silence...
Everyone but Kiyobi: "No."
-Cream pulls out two scraps of paper and writes her number on them and hands it to Aurelli and Shamoo.
Cream: "There."
Aurelli & Shamoo: "Thanks."
Kiyobi: "Wait. Let me see those."
-Shamoo and Aurelli give Kiyobi the scraps and writes something else on them.
Kiyobi: "Here, I wrote my house phone there too."
Aurelli & Shamoo: "Thanks!"
Hawk: "Me and Xyrho live there, too, so call that number if you need us."
Shamoo: "Okay."
Aurelli: "Well, I got to head to archery practice. Bye!"
Everyone: "Bye!"
-Aurelli heads to the field.
Shamoo: "I'm just gong to wait here. I take the bus home."
Xyrho: "You sure you don't want to come and drop by our home?"
Shamoo: "No, I can't. Not today. Maybe Saturday, like Cream said?"
Xyrho: "Okay."
Kiyobi: "Our home's just a little walk away."
Shamoo: "I can't go. My parents need to know about everything if I were to go somewhere."
Kiyobi: "Man, I hate those kind of parents!!!"
Shamoo: "Yeah."
Cream: "I'm going back home, I need to feed Nibbles."
Nibbles is her pet rabbit. So cute and cuddly.
*record scratch*
Wow. I said "cute and cuddly". Got a problem with that?!
Cream: "See you guys Saturday!"
Everyone: "Bye!"
Shamoo: "Oh, here comes the bus."
-Bus arrives and Shamoo hops on.
Shamoo: "See you!"
Everyone: "Later!"
-Bus departs.
Hawk: "Well, that's everyone."
Kiyobi: "Man, I'm tired, let's head home."
So we walk back home, but the day didn't end there.
Xyrho: "What the? Movers?"
There was a huge truck filled with furniture parked outside the house across from us.
Kiyobi: "Huh. Guess the home got sold."
Hawk: "Sweet! New neighbors!"
There were only three people moving in.
The first (and only) guy I saw looked to be our age. He had black hair, sort of the all over kind of hairstyle. He also had a look of a guy who got in a lot of fights. There was also a wooden sword of some kind in his hand. I wouldn't want to mess with him.
The second person was a girl. She was noticably shorter than the guy. She has purple hair and it only reaches a bit past her shoulders. She had the most innocent look I've ever seen on a girl. I bet she has a sweet voice, too.
Then the third person was a lady. She was definitely the tallest among the three. A blonde with long hair. Looked like the mean, bitchy type. She kind of scares me. I know this sounds so corny, but I bet there's a soft spot under there.
Hawk: "Wanna go say hi?"
Kiyobi: "Of course!"
-The three meet the new neighbors.
Kiyobi: "Hey, what's up? Welcome to the neighborhood."
-Kiyobi holds out his hand.
Guy: "What's up? You three neighbors?"
-Guy and Kiyobi shake hands.
Kiyobi: "I am. These two are transfer students."
Guy: "Oh, I see."
Kiyobi: "Name's Kiyobi Kawazaki. You?"
Guy: "I'm Rumina Asagi. We just moved in from Tokyo."
Kiyobi: "Tokyo? What was it like over there?"
Rumina: "It was great. But kind of noisy, we wanted to find a quieter place."
Kiyobi: "You're like 16 right?"
Rumina: "Yeah, but my grandfather recently passed away, so I was left alone."
Kiyobi: "Lucky. Free as a bird, huh?"
Rumina: "Oh, you wouldn't believe how hard it is!"

Hawk: "Hey, what's your name?"
Girl: "My name's Ruri. You?"
Hawk: "Hawk. Nice to meet you. Just moved in?"
Ruri: "Yeah."
Lady: "HEY! YOU GET YOUR HANDS OFF OF HER!"
Hawk: "What?"
-Lady starts chasing Hawk down, Hawk runs away.
Hawk: "Hey, Kiyobi?! HELP!!!!"
Lady: "How dare you get close to Ruri!!!"

Kiyobi: "That's Hawk Shugo, one of the transfers. The other's Xyrho Regira."
Rumina: "Okay."
Hawk: "HEEEEEELLLLLPPPP!!!!!!"
Rumina: "Hey, Chelsea! Easy! He's just a friend!"
As it turns out, Chelsea is the tall bitchy lady.
Chelsea: "I'm sorry.... uh..."
Hawk: "Hawk."
Chelsea: "Right. Hawk. I'm Chelsea."
Hawk: "Nice to meet you?"
Rumina: "Seriously, Chelsea, you got to ease up! It's not like The Company is after us anymore."
Chelsea: "You're right."
Kiyobi: "The Company?"
Rumina: "Long story. You're not going to believe it."
Kiyobi: "I got time."
Rumina: "Well, we still have lots of unpacking to do."
Kiyobi: "Oh, sorry then, we'll let you get back to work."
Rumina: "You think you can help us?"
Kiyobi: "Sure!"
Hawk: "All right. I got nothing to do."
Xyrho: "Me neither."
Rumina: "Thanks a lot, guys."
So we help unpack everything in the truck. That was a shitload of work, though. But hey, we had nothing to do, so why not, right? After all the stuff was pulled out, we said goodbye and went back to our home.
Ms. Kawazaki: "Welcome back! Kiyobi, there was something for you in the mail. Here."
-Ms. Kawazaki hands a letter to Kiyobi.
Kiyobi: "From Barltok?! I haven't heard from that guy in forever!"
-Kiyobi rips open the envelope and reads the letter.
Kiyobi: "...he's coming to Diamond City for vacation!"
Ms. Kawazaki: "That's great!"
Kiyobi: "It says he'll be here on Sunday..."
Hawk: "Who's Barltok?"
Kiyobi: "He's an old friend of mine. We started off in the same primary school in Nagano, but we went separate paths. We still keep in touch even to this day."
Hawk: "Cool."
Xyrho: "Sounds like a real good friend."
Kiyobi: "He is. Cool guy, you gotta meet him."

So after dinner, I went to our bedroom where I immediately hit the sack. I was tired, and I couldn't get up after all that moving. At least we have a three day weekend coming up. Lots of time for sleep. Ja mata ne, oyasumi nasai. See ya, good night.

With school taking a break, we all get a well deserved rest. I get more sleep, and we all get time to just hang out and enjoy life. I give Hawk, Xyrho, Rumina, Ruri, and Chelsea a tour of Diamond City and go shopping. Just a regular day in the life.
